Mikus, it’s a packed schedule for sure but Clubs involvement will rotate based on their success and FIFA are scrapping the annual Club World Cup and the Confederation to help fit it in.
Sounds like more will be unveiled on Friday.
If we are going to have a Club World Cup it’s better imo to have one like the one proposed that has some real credibility to it rather than the current competition where a Club can be crowned World Club Champions having played only 2/3 games in the current format.

24th October 2019 at 2:23 pm #50868Stevo, what’s happening in HK is clearly a worry but I suspect China was chosen as the venue for the 2021 tournament before things got as out of hand as they have in HK and of course there are other areas of worrying human rights issues in China too.
But as difficult as it is I think we have to try and keep politics our of Sport and you would have to question the venues for both the 2018 and 2022 World Cups on that basis.
Location aside I think Infantino is right though when he says
“The new Fifa World Cup for clubs will be a competition which every person who loves football looks forward to. It is the first real and true World Cup for the best teams and clubs in the world.”
Hopefully as Allan Hogarth of Amnesty International says FIFA can use their influence on China re their human rights issues both in HK and eleewhere.

24th October 2019 at 2:42 pm #50873Stevo, exactly which is why I said “and of course there are other areas of worrying human rights issues in China too.” “Hopefully as Allan Hogarth of Amnesty International says FIFA can use their influence on China re their human rights issues both in HK and eleewhere.”

24th October 2019 at 2:47 pm #50876AnonymousSome excellent points there Mikus. It is definitely getting to be too much for the sport as we know it but that’s when the sport will adapt. Managers don’t like rotating players, absolutely… however this will have to change. Will this be detrimental for the quality of football that we see? Perhaps! There’s definitely a ‘quality over quantity’ argument to be had but I don’t think it’s super straight forward, in that they are looking to revamp a pretty rubbish tournament and turn it into something legitimate. Their motivation is of course not for the betterment of the sport but in exploiting a potential market. That said, I think there should be a proper way of determining the ‘world champions’ in a genuinely global sport such as this. We’ve had the international version now for so long but club football is where it’s at and I think people are finally waking up to that.

24th October 2019 at 2:49 pm #50877of course they wont, thats a silly thing to say and what he says is they SHOULD use it, they are not, hence why they let China put on what will no doubt be a very well run tourno with great facilitites to portray them as just super duper!
if FIFA want to affect Human rights in countries and NOT support those regimes then dont give them tournos that bring in billions and give the cahnce to say look at us look how nice we are….
what are they going to do, shake their heads and say, thats not right behind close doors as the matches are played?
money money money, its good for FIFA and the brand and thats all that matters

24th October 2019 at 2:52 pm #50879Big issues surround the end of the PL and Championship seasons in 2O22 and the start of the World Cup in Qatar as well as the end of the Qatar World Cup and the restart of the PL and Championship. PL meeting coming up to consider all the implications.

24th October 2019 at 2:53 pm #50880Stevo, no worries mate always enjoy discussing things with you whatever the subject you always add something interesting.
It’s a difficult situation but there’s an argument that says you might make more progress with China by working with them rather than pushing them away and alienating them.
I’m not clever enough to know what might work best but I get what you say and I’m sympathetic to what you say.

24th October 2019 at 3:26 pm #50889I’m not against a better world club competition per se, but I do wish player well being was accounted for when these decisions were made. In any case, all this all ties in with steps towards some kind of break away league at some point so I suspect the number of teams in the premier league will be reduced in the next decade. Something will have to give at some point as the demand for more lucrative games increases.

24th October 2019 at 4:08 pm #50890You might ultimately be right about a breakaway Mikus. But would this be the catalyst only Chelsea United and Liverpool have won a European trophy since 2012 which is the entry requirement into the Club World Cup.

24th October 2019 at 6:40 pm #50896AnonymousAgreed in principle. There should be some kind of regulation regards to player fitness, looking especially at how the summer months are treated. Maybe a solid window where professional players are not allowed to play football is the only way to curb financial exploitation, which will always work it’s subjects until they are beyond tolerance levels. This is capitalism and sometimes you need to restrict it.
With all that said, there are solutions. We can have the best of both worlds for sure. Will we get what’s best? probably not for a while.

25th October 2019 at 8:33 pm #50923AS far as another “Cup” I believe this is a case for “More wants more” one day it will fall apart because clubs cannot sustain this at the top level. We have yet to see the World club cup followed be European league, which will include Capetown Warriors but not an English Club!!!!! Sorry my sense of humour
