1st January 2021 at 9:49 pm #173077In fact, we’ve scored the same number as Liverpool (5) this season but we’ve been awarded one more. So the “happens every game” is a slight exaggeration Nil.

1st January 2021 at 9:53 pm #173078Grealish just a joy to watch. Hope he stays at Villa but he deserves a big move if he wants to win things.

1st January 2021 at 10:06 pm #173079Ed, I don’t have those luxuries of Stats to my hand and I don’t expect you to see from My/and LFC Fans POV π
I’ll take your word for it in the meantime.

You do though, Nil. If you’re able to access this site, then you’re able to access sites with stats.
No hard feelings though. Hope you’re well.

1st January 2021 at 10:26 pm #173081Man Utd the form team in the league. Bizarrely, I think what is helping them is that there wasnβt really much expectation this season, so there isnβt much pressure on the players. But whatβs the end game here? Youβd expect the form to end at some point. You canβt build a team just on momentum and runs. Man Utd need a better manager to evolve this team, not create a revolution or upset the ingredients they have. Donβt see many candidates out there who would fit that bill at the moment. So Ole will continue until someone better is found. That would seem the best strategy at the moment.

1st January 2021 at 10:45 pm #173082It’s strange Mikus. I’ve always said we’ll never be consistent enough under Ole yet I think I’m right in saying our points per game for the year 2020 is better than anyone elses.
Where I think Ole will fall short is the closing stages, whether that be a title run in, a semi-final/final of a cup. I just don’t think he’s capable of taking this side to a big trophy.
If nothing else, this momentum will give Utd plenty of time to identify a suitable replacement for when the inevitable collapse comes, which I remain convinced it will, as much as I hope otherwise.
I still think third is the best we can hope for this season and even that looked a struggle going into this season with Chelsea strengthening like they did and Spurs becoming a threat again.

1st January 2021 at 10:51 pm #173083Yeh Ed, things arenβt quite as bad as I thought with Man Utd. There is something there. So I wouldnβt go down the Allegri/Poch route now (who are more defensive). You basically need your own Klopp who will play the Utd way and be able to build and develop on what you have. Problem is such people only come around every so often.
But better to keep things as they are rather than make another rash change with someone with a very different philosophy.

Thanks Ed, Hope All Is Well With You Too.

1st January 2021 at 10:57 pm #173087That’s it. They really aren’t many of that type of manager around.
Correction, Liverpool lead the points per game for 2020. I was thinking about the ppg since Bruno came in, which has us top. https://www.planetfootball.com/quick-reads/how-the-pl-table-would-look-if-it-began-when-man-utd-signed-bruno-fernandes/
Of course it means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things but it just shows how consistent we’ve been since he came in and transformed our fortunes.

2nd January 2021 at 8:22 am #173089I thought the penalty was very similar to the penalty Arsenal were awarded in the game against Chelsea same Referee too, in both situations the defending players would have been better to hold off from the challenge both incidents were difficult to judge in real time by the naked eye and it might have been better for Oliver to double check his decisions on the pitch side monitor.
United haven’t been awarded an extraordinary number of penalties this season one more than Liverpool according to the stats, not really applicable to yesterday’s incident but United do have a number of very fast players which means there is a likelyhood of more potential penalty incidents in their games the same applies to Liverpool and City.
Is Fernandes the best penalty taker in the PL? Probably.
10 PL games unbeaten has lifted United to the top of the table and they currently look a very decent team.
Credit to Ole who has slowly been getting things together and is getting United playing the United way and given their attacking strengths they are capable of beating anybody and if they could make a strategic signing or two in the January window you wouldn’t bet against them.
Talk of Ole’s departure looks like a thing of the past now and even the much maligned Woodward deserves some credit for sitting on his hands.
I’ve said previously United were a much better team than many were giving them credit for and the run of unbeaten games and Pogba in a more attacking role has led them to where they are now.
Without a total collapse this season which looks unlikely Ole will be Manager next season and I would be suprised if Ole doesn’t go into next season with at least one trophy.
Fernandes is the catalyst in this turnaround by United what a player he is, the b*****d! π
A word for Villa and Dean Smith what a very good job Smith has done in rebuilding Villa to the team they are now and what a player Grealish has developed into and I suspect there is more to come from him too.
We’ve not seen a PL table like this for a long time two teams at the top of the table only split by goal difference and only 7 points between the two Clubs currently at the top of the table and 10th place makes for an exciting season and is great for the PL.

2nd January 2021 at 8:34 am #173091AnonymousAre United supporters not embarressed to always win games with fake diving penalties. I would hate my team to win in that manner so regularly.

2nd January 2021 at 9:18 am #173092There’s no way anyone can call that a dive Moos. Whether or not it was clumsy enough to warrant a penalty is debatable but it certainly wasn’t a dive. The defender goes in very clumsily.
Villa were very lucky to not give away another and a red card for Mings for his horrible elbow to Pogba’s face. That it wasn’t even checked is baffling. Mings has form for that kind of thing
Remember when Mings did this yesterday?

2nd January 2021 at 10:55 am #173094AnonymousEd as usual you misunderstand the point, what possible satisfaction can a true supporter get if his team keep winning games by penalties and many of them dubious as well. That’s the issue everyone on social media is talking about not the 3 points is 3 points phrase

2nd January 2021 at 11:04 am #173095Moos, I think it’s you missing the point. We’ve had 1 more penalty than Chelsea this season so if we “keep winning games by penalties” then so does tour team. I’d be embarrassed if we were getting dubious penalties but that’s just not the case. We’ve had at least as many dubious decisions given against us as for us this season, not least yesterday where Villa should have had a red card.
Oddly though, neither yourself or Adlab comment when decisions go against Utd or indeed when any other team get dubious decisions. Nor do you comment when Chelsea get dubious decisions, strangely.
