3rd January 2021 at 6:36 pm #173232That’s why City are favourites for the title. They have the biggest and best squad in the league so they can cope much better than any other team amidst all the injuries/illnesses teams will have this season. A real advantage that other clubs just don’t have.
Commiserations Chelsea fans. Sorry to say it but I can’t help but think Lampard is way out of his depth at this level. It’s one thing looking good last season while the pressure is off due to the transfer ban but this season was always going to be the one where Lampard was judged for real. So far, he’s very much underachieving with probably the second strongest squad in the league.
Tuchel anyone??

3rd January 2021 at 6:39 pm #173233City missing Ake and Laporte but can still field 50mil Stones and 65mil Dias at CB shows just how little injuries affect a team with the squad the size/quality of theirs

3rd January 2021 at 7:42 pm #173237I feel I must take issue with your post @ 6:36pm, Ed.
FL is only in his second full season as Chelsea manager and has only been allowed to buy players in the last 12 months. Come on, cut the guy some slack – he’s young and still learning and so so are a majority of players he has purchased – they are without doubt a very talented bunch. Providing he’s given time, imo he’ll get things right at Chelsea. I also think RA feels this and is tired of swapping and changing managers every couple of years.
Yes, they might not win anything for 2/3 seasons but allowing Frank to develop as a manager and develop his squad, will pay dividends for the club in the long term._____________________________

3rd January 2021 at 8:09 pm #173240Ye Ed city favourites for me. Said it from start of the season. What a squad and unreal team when they going
Giblues, I don’t know. I said to nine at the start of the season, would frank still have a job if Chelsea finished 6th after spending big?? Roman has no room for sentiment and it be very interesting to see how he would react if frank doesnt deliver this season
Chelsea are having a bad runbut have an exceptional squad. I’m sure they will bounce back but if they don’t then I’m not sure Roman will have patience with frank and keep him for next season

3rd January 2021 at 8:11 pm #173242Yeah no worries GJ. I might be completely wrong on Lampard. A lot of Chelsea fans are saying the same though, in fairness. He may well prove me wrong.

3rd January 2021 at 8:20 pm #173244I’m 50/50 on Frank. He should be allowed more time and the way the Premier League has been, results and turn of events can turn quite quickly.
With Chelsea it’s slightly different I think if you have Abramovic as an owner and his expectation is a quick return given the money spent (which in itself adds to the pile of pressure).
I noticed in the first half the link up play on Chilwell and one of the attacking Chelsea players not really on the same wavelength on the passage of play and creating an opportunity from the open space. If that had been Robertson and Mane, both know where each other are and exchanges actually happen.
For me I’ve always felt it was a little too soon for Frank to be straight at the helm and he should really at best be a Number for a Top Club like Chelsea. Now with the way fortunes have played out, he isn’t too far away from Roman’s Trapdoor and he himself won’t be afraid to release it. Frank should really be accompanied with a good Number 2 who’s Tactically Astute with experience and Pedigree.
What might have been a good scenario (had Everton not got there first!) for example is for Chelsea to have hired Ancelotti short term with Frank being Number 2.
You look at JT at Villa, he’s learning his trade going through the natural steps of progression after retiring as a player. I feel with Frank, his appointment with Chelsea could be a little too early and premature.

That last part GJ. Will it, though? Based on what? Because he was a good player? Who’s to say it will benefit the club in the long term to persevere with him?

3rd January 2021 at 8:36 pm #173251If you meet City on a good day and you’re not having any good days currently that’s what happens as Sean rightly said there’s “No stopping city when they are like this”.
Aguero coming back and City playing like that and City will defintely be in the mix in the final furlong.
There are few better teams than City when they play like that.
From a Chelsea perspective Frank the Coaches and the players just have to bite the bullet take the criticism on the chin and work harder and harder together to put it right on the training ground.
I was worried the game was going to end up at 6 or 7 but we were a bit better in the second half and the heads never went down. That and the goal at the end is all we have to hang on to currently.

3rd January 2021 at 8:45 pm #173252Just to bring in a little bit of fun, Pep’s 100 points cannot be matched this season by any club 😀
But both Manchester United and Liverpool have the opportunity to achieve 99 if they win Every League Game from now till finish 🙂

3rd January 2021 at 8:46 pm #173253GJ, to add to my last, here’s an article from the Athletic who are usually pretty reliable.
🔹 Chelsea hierarchy looking at alternatives to Lampard
🔹 Concerns over struggles of Havertz and Werner
🔹 Tensions between manager and some of squadAfter losing to #MCFC, Lampard's position is in jeopardy…#CFC | #CHEMCI | @liam_twomey | @SJohnsonSport
— The Athletic UK (@TheAthleticUK) January 3, 2021
Look at that second picture in the tweet. Lampard has the lowest points per game of ANY Chelsea manager in the Abramovich era. Again, I don’t see what people are basing this theory of “but he’ll get it right given time…” on, other than the fact he was a very good player.

3rd January 2021 at 8:50 pm #173255Ed, I may be completely wrong but the evidence points to RA, maybe, mellowing as he gets older. Why would he give Frank such a big budget if he was going to sack him after 12 months (or so)? And especially sanctioning that budget on, in the main, a number of young players.
As I say, I may be wrong but I hope I’m not as I have a soft spot for FL, being one of our former players (albeit for only 1 year)._____________________________
