Well played Rochdale. Spurs had to be rescued by a slightly dubious Alli penalty. Lol

18th February 2018 at 6:34 pm #15911AnonymousNothing dubious about the penalty, was stonewall. The performance however was very dubious, actually it was clueless, pathetic and some of the players have proven time and time again they just aren’t good enough yet still get an opportunity ahead of deserving academy players who couldn’t do a worse job if they tried. What the hell has happened to Llorente? He’s genuinely useless. Still blame poch though as he openly says he doesn’t care about the fa cup and the players therefore don’t bother.

18th February 2018 at 6:34 pm #15912AnonymousDidn’t see the penalty, but you always wonder with Alli. I assume he ended up with both legs together, falling over? Did he arch his back too?

18th February 2018 at 6:38 pm #15914Little dubious for me Pax. Sure there was contact but he was going over before the contact. His leg that wasnt touched just gave up haha. Thank god i dont have that problem otherwise i would be on the ground about six times going to and from a match. He could have stayed on his feet if he chose to is probably a better way of saying it.

18th February 2018 at 6:45 pm #15915This was the only clip I could find
Dele Alli going down for the penalty. #ROCTOT

18th February 2018 at 6:54 pm #15916Don’t think you can argue there was contact for the penalty, the nasty Rochdale player stood on his toe, which apparently marked him out for the sniper in the crowd, and after that it went all Tom Daley…..Pagan

18th February 2018 at 7:00 pm #15917Haha ed very good. Its strange how the majority in the game describe the pen today as Stonewall. When he could have chosen to stay on his feet. If he was a rugby player ball in hand 5 yards from the try line i somehow dont think his other leg would have just collapsed like it did. Clearly its not just Alli that does this. Ie making the most of it, I think 95% of players would do the same. But i do find it interesting that that is described as a stonewall pen. Sorry Alfie no he didnt arch his back and throw his hands in the air. He might have had some better acting classes that have taught him less is more effective?

18th February 2018 at 7:07 pm #15918I’ll be honest, I haven’t actually seen it yet so I can’t comment!
But it sounds from the above comments that he might have made the most of it. One thing’s for sure, I certainly won’t complain if he gets away with it at the World Cup for England!

18th February 2018 at 7:20 pm #15919It was a penalty, a very clever one by Ali. I think he would have scored if he stayed on his feet.Well played to Rochdale, enjoy the reurn game then get back to moving out of your danger zone. Play like that and you will

18th February 2018 at 7:25 pm #15920Ed, it’s comments like yours that justify diving and exaggeration, unless it’s condemned by all it’s never going to go away….Pagan

18th February 2018 at 7:33 pm #15921Oh I’m not a fan of diving at all Pagan. I suppose I’m just making the wider point that we’re all happy to accept a bit of exaggeration if it’s our own team benefitting. Ideally, I’d like to see it wiped out altogether, and I know comments like mine don’t help, but I would be lying if I said I’d be annoyed if Alli exaggerated a fall in the last minute of the World Cup final for England to get a pen.

18th February 2018 at 7:41 pm #15922To be honest, I’m embarrassed when Chelsea players do it, Cahill on Friday got an arm in the upper chest and then went down holding the top of his head, I just sat there in front of the TV cringing.
I don’t know how many on here have anything to do with grass roots footy, but we’re starting to see kids 12 years old and younger throwing themselves to the ground, because that’s what they see on TV, and the pundits justify it, so it’s the proper thing to do…Pagan

18th February 2018 at 7:45 pm #15923I think it was a pen, Alli made the most of it but they all do.
Credit to Rochdale for the late equaliser they put a lot into it and will enjoy their trip to Wembley.. I was hoping for the draw and another game for Spurs.?
Funny thing is that I stopped watching the game when Spurs scored the pen to catch up with the Bristol City game and only realised it was a draw when I picked the result up on the internet I was amazed tbh. That’s the FA Cup for you.

18th February 2018 at 7:48 pm #15924I think it’s important to distinguish between making the most of a challenge and diving or blatantly attempting to con the ref, which is the bracket I’d put your Cahill example in. I’m not going to condone the latter but, as I said, I wouldn’t have too much to say if Alli, as an England player, exaggerated a fall at a vital moment.

18th February 2018 at 7:53 pm #15925But Ed, if you have to exaggerate, then you are conning the ref, if the contact isn’t enough to make you lose your feet, and you go flying to the ground, it’s cheating, pure and simple. Football is a contact sport, the way it’s going all contact will be a foul…Pagan

18th February 2018 at 8:06 pm #15927I’m sure the FA will try and stamp it out in the same way they tried the respect campaign, bottom up, where it needs to be done top down….Pagan

19th February 2018 at 5:58 am #15947Fair points Pagan
I see the Rochdale manager has said almost exactly the same re Alli (& if he did it for England):

19th February 2018 at 9:45 am #15950I am sure that most fans do not want divers in the team, no matter who it is or who they are ED.
It is becoming part of the gme and must be halted but I doubt te authorities have an answer other than tweak the laws. I have been of the opinion for some time they are trying to make football a non contact sport, which to those that want it that way will mean
1. faster game for TV audience
2, Split the game into periods (to get more ads in( Say 4×30 minute periods)
3 Sin bin time
4, 18./22 squad which can be rotated at any time
Horrible thoughts but you can see changes comeing
