17th February 2018 at 10:52 pm #15868It’s in real danger of ruining the game. The game’s not broken, so just leave it alone. It’s farcical

18th February 2018 at 6:31 am #15871Anonymousnothing wrong with VAR. Its the officials who make the decisions who remain ridiculously stupid and naive.

18th February 2018 at 9:36 am #15872Nothing wrong with VAR? Apart from the ridiculous delay in decision making, apart from the uncertainty over what decisions it’s meant to review (clear and obvious mistakes!), apart from as Wagner said yesterday taking all the emotion out of the game, apart from alienating the matchgoing crowd who haven’t a clue what is going on, apart from still arguably getting the decisions wrong, and all those reasons before I throw in that they can’t draw straight lines. I wish they’s just bin the bloody thing.

18th February 2018 at 9:45 am #15873Needs improving but definitively better than not having it. Mic up the refs. Put the replays on tbe big screens. Involve the fans. Use it for pens, red card tackles. Off sides. Ie game changers. It isnt going away so people need to get on board with the idea. This is the only area i think i have ever agreed with that odious little prick Barton on. The FA should have done there homework and learned from rugby league as to how to implement it before bringing it in. Would have been alot smoother.

18th February 2018 at 9:47 am #15874Anyway moving on. Assuming Spurs get through the next round shpuld they be allowed to play a semi at Wembley. Surely it should be at a neutral ground.

18th February 2018 at 10:01 am #15877Jim – will have to agree to disagree about VAR. I truly believe it is better not having it at the moment, and I’m surprised you, as a matchgoing fan, think differently. I can almost understand a TV viewer not being too bothered about it, as he/she is not as caught up in the immediate passion and adrenalin of the game. Have you been at a game yet where it has been used? I have, at the Liverpool-WBA Cup match a couple of weeks ago, and it was dreadful. Wagner was dead right about it with what he said he last night.

18th February 2018 at 10:03 am #15879And as for Spurs playing at a neutral venue…well, it’s that Mickey Mouse competition again – no interest, mate!!!
…but, yeah, it does seem wrong, though the ticket allocation would be fair, one would assume

18th February 2018 at 10:35 am #15882Not been used at a game i have been at HH. I didnt say it was perfect. It needs to be implemented better. But thats the useless FA for you.

18th February 2018 at 12:10 pm #15885AnonymousI donβt think the shambolic use of VAR is down to the FA, this seems to be down to over officious referees.
When it was brought in they said they expected it to be used once every three games. They said it would only be used for clear and obvious mistakes. It is not being used in the manner they wanted it to be used.
Yesterdays VAR ref has to be given a dressing down and he should go back on a training course as he does not know what it is there for.

18th February 2018 at 1:05 pm #15888With respect to BigAl07 on TT, this is his post on the VAR debate. Written far more eloquently and passionately than I could…
VAR is the biggest threat to the national game there has ever been. Commentators are talking about getting the decision right to within a fraction of an inch, making the decisions faster and letting everyone see exactly what the extra ref is seeing. All irrelevant in my eyes because if the emotion and passion of the game has already been killed then the decision becomes irrelevant.
Football is all about quick exciting moments, a bit of skill and the ball hits the back of the net. The stadium erupts in excitement and (one set of) players celebrate wildly. Its not about a ref putting his finger to his ear and everyone waiting around in subdued silence. When the decision does come it doesnβt matter whether its for your team or against it, whether its right or wrong because the moment has gone and so has the passion and excitement.
When a striker is one on one with the goalie, both they and the crowd HAVE to know whether this is going to count or not. Imagine the striker has already been through twice, beat the keeper twice and had both goals (eventually) chalked off. Will the crowd be on the edge of their seats this third time ? No way. Will the striker and goalie be as razor sharp this time round knowing it might be another case of non-play ? Not a chance. When everything weβre seeing may matter or may not then it quickly becomes that nothing matters

18th February 2018 at 5:14 pm #15903Well, if any of those numpties playing today start knocking on Poncho’s door asking for either a pay rise or why they’re not in the first team, just show them a DVD of this match…
Lucas looked good for the first 10 minutes… other than that I’m struggling to spot a white shirt who looks like a professional footballer….

18th February 2018 at 5:21 pm #15906Matches like this are why I’m yet to be convinced that Poch could cut it at one of the money clubs. This match and the Newport one they should be absolutely walking it. I’ve said it before but I wonder with Poch whether he’s one of those managers who are great when they’re the underdog, but as soon as there is an expectation to win, they seem to struggle. Klopp is another one I’d accuse of that. Give them an away game at Real and they’d have you glued to the TV pulling off an upset but give them a cup final over a Rochdale and they crumble

18th February 2018 at 5:24 pm #15908My point being that both those managers have the luxury of not being expected to win every single game. At one of the money clubs every game is like this one where there is no excuse to not win
