Well I thought I’d seen the worst referee ever just 3 days ago. Looks like I was wrong.

4th March 2020 at 12:09 am #80478Nine, I honestly didn’t want Athletico or Napoli as they’re the types of teams we struggle against. Both are very well drilled & very disciplined & I just hope the Anfield effect will get us through in the CL but I just can’t see it going off our recent form. Numerous players are dropping form at the same time & we can be grateful we built such a lead in the EPL.

4th March 2020 at 7:17 am #80479great game to watch for the neutral, some end to end stuff, great game by Gilmour fully deserved MOM.
Pool had some chanbces and both keepers made some amazing saves
little surprised the 1st 11 wasnt stronger from pool, feels like with the PL wrapped up a good chance to win the trophy or push for it and really deserve the “greatest team” monika
Newcastle managed to win and ascore a few and sheffield united also just keep going along and doing well….

4th March 2020 at 8:03 am #80483Given all Chelsea’s injuries I wonder if Klopp’ underestimated the likely Chelsea team last night by not playing all his star men. And it got worse for Chelsea with the injuries to Kovacic and Willian too. Gilmour was immense and even more immense given he’s only 18 years old.

4th March 2020 at 8:12 am #80484Oz, I agree Atletico were probably the worst team for Liverpool to draw in the CL because of how they set up it could be a real tough game but I still think Liverpool should come through.
I suspect Simeone will play Costa as the loan striker and tell him to put himself about.

Yet no one else on here has even commented on the Referee neither did anyone on the TV coverage or in the media.

4th March 2020 at 9:21 am #80488I don’t think klopp under estimated Chelsea at all nine. I was suprised we didn’t leave more people out. He was always going to play origi, lalanna, Jones, willians etc
Chelsea weren’t at full strength at all so it was two even teams but Chelsea were the much better side on the night and fully deserved to win

4th March 2020 at 10:33 am #80492Sean, yes on reflection I think “under estimated” was the wrong terminology,I’m sure Klopp believed that team was good enough to win the game and he had Salah and Firmino on the bench in an emergency.
I was just wondering whether Klopp wouldn’t have picked a stronger team had Chelsea not had so many injuries.
But only Klopp knows that.? And in a way I can understand the way he went given the massive game v Atletico next Tuesday with Bournemouth in between and the amount of games in the players legs too. It’s not easy to run a race from the front all season as Liverpool have.
They’ve done great to be where they are in the PL and although the PL title is wrapped up they’ve had the pressure of the unbeaten run to cope with too.
Whatever happens between now and the end of the season it’s been a great one for Liverpool who with their consistency in the PL have blown every one else away.

4th March 2020 at 10:42 am #80494I thought the teams were evenly matched, with a collection of first teamers, fringe and youth for both teams, and that was reflected in a great first half. Sadly from a Liverpool point of view too many players under-performed especially in the second half and Chelsea deserved the win.
This dip in form happens to every team at some point, the question for Klopp is how to fix it. I would start by giving Origi and Fabinho a big kick up the arse!

4th March 2020 at 10:53 am #80495Just to add, one player I would of like to had seen more was Milner. With Henderson sidelined, Fabihno running through treacle and Jones and Lallana not knowing how to defend and press he would of made a difference to the performance I think. Not sure if he was fit for the whole game, but maybe he could of started. Chelsea dominated the midfield and if you do that you’re likely to win.

Klopp doesn’t rate the FA Cup, at all. I was worried he would do exactly this and I didn’t even know about Chelsea’s injuries until just a few days ago.
I’m honestly disappointed in Klopp. We give him so much well deserved credit but he’s dropped the ball here and there’s no getting away from it.
If Atletico knock us out of the CL, our season ends there. Gonna be a weird 2-3 months.

4th March 2020 at 12:21 pm #80497Chelsea v Liverpool was a very good cup tie to watch for the neutral, especially the first half, played at pace, with good technique and end to end. Not seen anything of Billy Gilmour before but must say he had an excellent game.
One thing that did surprise me was the way Liverpool seemed to tire in the last 15/20 minutes. I believe they are the fittest team in the PL and often ‘press’ for almost the full 90, hence the number of late and often important goals they score. However, last night they looked ‘leggy’ and applied very little pressure on the Chelsea goal late on. What do the Liverpool lads on here think?_____________________________

4th March 2020 at 12:29 pm #80498I don’t think we press near as much as we used to giblues mate.
We do at certain times of games but never the full 90 mins
We are having a blip in form. We are being bypassed far to easily in midfield and as we were saying at the start of the season, playing such a high line is very riskyWe will bounce back and hopefully that’s Saturday as a bad result on sat, people will get very anxious
We were always going to have a spell like this even city have had a blip in the previous two seasons But they bounced back quick enough

4th March 2020 at 12:52 pm #80499There’s a line in the Senna film of him reaching perfection whilst driving at Monaco and being so far ahead of everyone else that he admitted he started to relax and then left himself open to mistakes, which proved so as he crashed out of that race not long after. And I think that’s the sort of problem – we’ve reached perfection this season in terms of work ethic and mentality but then started to relax and have forgotten what got us there in the first place. When you’re at the top and have reached perfection, then the only other direction you can go will be downwards.

4th March 2020 at 1:16 pm #80501Regarding the press and looking tired I think that is where Henderson and maybe Milner too are missed. They are extremely fit, focused and intelligent with the press, but also as leaders of the team I feel they know (or are instructed) when to up the levels of those around them by setting the tone and driving the team forward. VvD had the armband and I noticed versus Watford he was trying to get everyone to play faster but as a defender all he can is shout and not lead by example simply because of his role.
This is where I think a lot of Henderson’s importance is overlooked and why he has been badly missed these last few games.

4th March 2020 at 1:56 pm #80503I said the same a few weeks back Mikus no team can keep the accelerator pressed down on the floor forever I never thought Liverpool would go the whole season unbeaten I always though once the title was won the foot was likely to come off the accelerator.
Sometimes us fans we have to hold our hands up and accept we’ve been beaten by the better side on the day which is what happened yesterday and on Saturday.
The PL title will be won perhaps with a points record and if Liverpool get past Atletico there’s every chance they might retain the CL too. Liverpool are a great team but maybe some got a tad carried away as Sean’s comments below reflect on.
“Maybe the last few weeks has taught the fans a few lessons. I was hearing talk in pubs of trebles and going unbeaten and this is the best pl team ever. That was Bollix in my opinion. We hadn’t won the league in 30 years and people were going well overboard.”

4th March 2020 at 2:09 pm #80506Gilmour was absolutely brilliant last night, the kid is only 18.Him & Mount will save Chelsea tens of millions of ££££ on transfer fees, and might actually help them raise a few bob selling Kovacic & Jorginho. What a pair of excellent players!
Lamps should defo be given lots more time._____________________________

4th March 2020 at 2:11 pm #80507Billy Gilmour turned in a midfield clinic aged 18 years old.
He caught Fabinho cold with this drawback ?

4th March 2020 at 2:17 pm #80511Mikus. Such a good point ie relaxing thinking its all done. I must read that.
Its so true. At the top level, take your eye off the ball and you are done, whoever you are.
What is the Senna film? Is it on Netflix or Amazon, do you know?I agree Gilmour did well.
