Nobody likes me, everybody hates me
I think I’ll go eat worms!
Big fat juicy ones
Eensie weensy squeensy ones
See how they wiggle and squirm!Down goes the first one, down goes the second one
Oh how they wiggle and squirm!
Up comes the first one, up comes the second one
Oh how they wiggle and squirm!I bite off the heads, and suck out the juice
And throw the skins away!
Nobody knows how fat I grow
On worms three times a day!_____________________________

28th January 2019 at 8:46 am #32244But Chucky, why should the players put everything into a tournament that, by his own admission, Poch doesn’t deem worthy of him or his team? That desire comes from the very top and filters down and, if it’s lacking there, you can be absolutely certain that attitude filters down to the players. I can’t believe how well Spurs fans seem to have taken these quotes! I honestly think that’s a terrible attitude to have as a manager

28th January 2019 at 8:54 am #32245Gee, Steady Eddy, do you think it might have something to do with protecting the players and keeping all rollicking’s behind closed doors? Certain, and considerably more successful, managers tend to think this is a good idea…
Short of Erikson, not too sure who else from our typical first choice was missing (who can actually walk!) from arguably our strongest 11 be honest.

28th January 2019 at 9:19 am #32247It’s obviously just my opinion Chucky but it’s not even just about a weaker lineup. It’s the whole arrogance of seeming like the cups are below him and not worthy of his focus. The fact that getting into the top 4 is his only focus and that cups are only good for the ego. If he’s saying that he’s not bothered, why would the players be?

28th January 2019 at 9:29 am #32248Okay, you guys obviously have a boner or two about his comments, fair enough (and I’m not exactly disagreeing either!) but as for the team selection, I still say that team had enough to bet Palace. 14 attempts and 71% possession says we weren’t exactly outplayed. As mentioned, both their goals were brain-farts and if we had our shooting boots on, the score would have been very different.
I see Chelsea rested a few players too… but you guys won. That’s the difference here. Don’t see anybody getting boners about that… π

28th January 2019 at 10:01 am #32249Chelsea faced a different opposition and have in fairness to them squad depth that will take care of the job in hand. There were plenty of regulars last night that started plus Wednesday and Palace are two different propositions and Palace of late have stepped up.

28th January 2019 at 10:05 am #32250Nil you took the words right out of my mouth mate and Eriksen wasn’t even on the bench? 20 minutes of Eriksen and Spurs would probably have still been in the Cup.

28th January 2019 at 10:08 am #32252I do get the juggling act and the fear in taking risks, factoring squad depth and games. I’m still gutted under Klopp, we’ve been on the wrong end of 3 Cup Finals. Probably down to a small handful of reasons, but one stand out is sustainability and proper quality in depth of squad.
You have to account to be able to compete properly in more than one competition, investment is needed and those integral to your squad have to be looked after with handsome salaries and being tied down to new contracts.
It seems to me with Spurs, the clear objective is ensuring CL qualification knowing the bigger picture is to be competing in an Elite Competition in the New Stadium that will positively impact revenue, both TV and paying fans at the Turnstiles.
Maybe overall, it’s a gradual process in being able to free up more money for the Transfer Kitty.

28th January 2019 at 10:15 am #32254Again weβre going to have the debate whether a trophy will take the club to the next level. I donβt agree with it. It only builds your ego. The most important thing for Tottenham right now is to always be in the top four.β Who said that,Kylie???

28th January 2019 at 10:17 am #32256You raise another problem for Spurs there Nil the new Stadium is lovely and will bring in extra revenues but Spurs still have to pay for it and I suspect just like Arsenal before them that will considerably limit them in the transfer market short to medium term which may mean that some of the jewels in the Crown will look to seek pastures new and the eventual rebuilding of the team.
I think its a shame for Spurs that this team arrived at the same time as the new Stadium it was a team that has/had great quality and with the acquisition of two or three real quality players I think would have kicked on and won the title as Liverpool look like doing now having added those quality players to a very good squad.

28th January 2019 at 10:26 am #32259Nine, I thought along those lines too mate re Arsenal.
That’s why I’m not much in favour of investing in New Stadiums unless the club has an Investor who is able to pump in serious money all round, ala top quality players and high salaries.
It’s unlikely to happen with Levy in the immediate future. Some players will be loyal enough commit themselves, but if their head is turned and all they are experiencing is plateau season in season out, the wheels eventually are off.
It’s a real shame with Spurs because they’re not a long way off, but they need to be able to be that club able to shell-out 60/70 on Top Quality and build on their depth of squad.
Cheers

28th January 2019 at 10:31 am #32260Chucky, Poch wasn’t the first and he won’t be the last to rotate his squad in the various competitions. But to come out afterwards and openly admit getting top 4 is the priority over progressing in the cup (and that cups are merely for the ego) just doesn’t sit well with me. Spurs fans will no doubt be relieved though that his list of admirers will be shortening rapidly after that

28th January 2019 at 10:47 am #32261Steady Eddy, can’t believe you monkeys are getting all worked up from some soundbites. Seems the lot of you are missing Maureen and need another target… π
You lot need to wipe the gunk from your screens and get back to work!!
Gee, it was only the third round when we played Dele and look how that turned out… in the middle of a 4 games in 9 days stretch, and Poncho obviously decided what needed prioritizing… still think the team he put out should/could have had enough to beat Palace… he rotated and it bit him in the Arsenal…

28th January 2019 at 11:36 am #32263I only care because I’m annoyed that he keeps getting linked with my club, as I’m sure you are too ?
I can’t understand why Spurs fans aren’t up in arms though about his comments. I’d be pretty peed off if my team’s manager disregarded cups like he did in those comments, especially when Spurs haven’t won a trophy for a while. A cup would do wonders for their mentality IMO.

28th January 2019 at 12:37 pm #32266AnonymousThe Spurs team he selected was still good enough for Palace sometimes the best or worst of plans backfire, I’m sure Potch expected a win but it didn’t unfortunately for him work out
