Very difficult to understand Poch’s team selection today given the FA Cup is Spurs most likely trophy?

27th January 2019 at 5:30 pm #32217Seems of late, Palace have grown to be a better team. Whoever faces them going forward will be in for a tough game.

27th January 2019 at 6:10 pm #32218Nine, what was it you said about Poch having started to take cups more seriously now? ? I’d be furious if my team’s manager saw the cups as almost below his team like Poch seems to do. Say what you want about Mourinho but his desire to win the Community shield was as big as his desire to win the CL. Trophies breed trophies and disregarding/disrespecting the cups like Poch does must be incredibly frustrating for the fans.

27th January 2019 at 6:44 pm #32219Wonder how long will players like Eriksen,Kane, and a few others stick with Spurs considering the opportunities to win major trophies?

27th January 2019 at 6:53 pm #32220Chelsea v Sheff.
Thats why I have been banging on about VAR. We ended up with correct decisions. With no VAR Sheff would have a penalty…..wrongly_____________________________

27th January 2019 at 7:29 pm #32222AnonymousAnd that lads is how to exit 2 cups the Spurs way.
TBH Spurs were abysmal they could have played all night and still not scored.Poch is playing a dangerous game I hope he knows what he’s doing.
Well done Palace I hope you get a favourable draw._____________________________

27th January 2019 at 7:36 pm #32223Poch did similar at Southampton. Seem to remember they had the opportunity to go into the last 8 in the FA Cup in 2014 vs Sunderland and he named a much changed side. This was a Southampton team that finished 8th in the league so I don’t quite know what Poch was resting his players for. And yet had he gone for it he may have had half a chance of getting somewhere and really putting that Southampton team on the map (Hull made the final that year). But many foreign managers don’t seem to see the wisdom of such things.

27th January 2019 at 7:53 pm #32225Well, decent run out tonight for Higuaín. Would like to see more of him, and hopefully, he opens his account for the Blues soon.
No qualms on VAR and both calls correct. Hard job for the Ref to consistently be accurate.
Holders came out stronger in the end and didn’t treat this lightly which is how it should be.

27th January 2019 at 7:55 pm #32227Don’t know why Leicester sold Jeffrey Schlupp – he linked well with Connor Wickham.

27th January 2019 at 7:58 pm #32228Feel for Tottenham you have to say and it’s sad to be out of 2 comps in just days. Hope this hasn’t shaped complete their whole season for the worse and hope they do well in the CL.

27th January 2019 at 7:59 pm #32229Ed, ha, ha, you got me there what was Poch thinking but in the League Cup Semi Finals he did go very strong. Can’t understand today’s team Spurs fans can’t be happy with that team selection.

27th January 2019 at 8:16 pm #32231Mav, that’s right. Haha, as long as he doesn’t score against us.
Just a general appreciation of a Top Player mate. We don’t have a great deal on the Prem circuit like we used to.

27th January 2019 at 8:17 pm #32232Mav, you can be a fan of another Club and still enjoy watching players who don’t play for you I love watching Rashford and De Gea, the Liverpool front three, City’s Silva’s , KDB and Aguero, Eriksen and Kane, Abumeyang etc etc.?
I’m looking forward to seeing Hazard and Higuain playing together his movement looked good tonight. Nice game from Willian too.

28th January 2019 at 6:43 am #32238AnonymousPochettino defended his team selection on the basis that winning trophies only builds egos.

28th January 2019 at 7:19 am #32239“Again we’re going to have the debate whether a trophy will take the club to the next level. I don’t agree with it. It only builds your ego. The most important thing for Tottenham right now is to always be in the top four.”
Everything that’s wrong with some modern day managers in one quote! Who needs trophies when you can qualify for a tournament you’re not going to win, ironically because you refuse to instill a winning mentality in your side through your arrogance!

28th January 2019 at 8:33 am #32240You lot finished yet? Bet your wrists are getting sore… 🙂
Although I disagree with those comments, I think the players yesterday also need to take a fair share of the blame. Both Palace goals were more down to utter brain farts from Sanchez and W-P, and you can’t blame Poncho for Trippiers penalty or all the other missed chances…
He could have perhaps put out a stronger starting 11 (not that much stronger, the cupboard is a bit bare at the moment!) but that team he did put out should have had enough in the tank imho!!

28th January 2019 at 8:34 am #32241Very surprised by the Pochettino quote sounds like a poor excuse to me and a flaw in his managerial philosophy.
It will definitely put Club’s off of appointing him and whilst that may please the Spurs fans, Spurs are likely to continue trophy less under his Management because domestic Cups are the most likely trophies they can win and you won’t win them by disrespecting them with the sort of team selection we saw yesterday especially when Spurs were already missing key players.
Interestingly Pochettino went into the Semi Final v Chelsea with his strongest possible line up but perhaps that was more about wanting to beat Chelsea than anything else.
Having a Manager who lacks the ambition to compete for a domestic Cup and limitations on transfer spending because of the new Stadium makes you wonder how long Spurs star players may stick around when coupled with the Managers attitude to domestic Cups limiting their chances to win a trophy.
