Blimey, “long term” and “manager” used together in a football manager contex….Pagan

26th January 2019 at 11:46 am #32130Credit were credit is due. Ole had done a fantastic job. This utd team look really dangerous going forward
They can still be got at but they look very very good going forward. Pace to burn
We are seeing the real pogba. Utd fans must be really enjoying this. It’s all about enjoying watching your team and ole had brought that backI still be very sceptical of him taking the job full time but he had the club bouncing again
Utd have always had good players. They just needed to let off the leash. Leave players up top for the breakaway
Jose fans said it was the players but I think it was a mixture of the two. Clearly the players downed tools and he really didn’t help himself with some of the absolute shite he came out with
Hopefully we never see him in the pl again.

26th January 2019 at 1:00 pm #32131I think it was definitely a mixture of the two Sean. Some of the comebacks at the end of games this season under Jose showed me he still had enough support of the players up until the last few games. The thing is, the weaknesses today are the same as the weaknesses under Jose and they are all related to the defence. Now, a Jose side is much more dependent on a strong defence than a side led by a more attack-minded manager, where defensive deficiencies are often masked by outscoring the opposition. I still feel if Jose had a stronger backline, we’d be thriving under him now but, whether through poor buys or a lack of belief in his targets from the board, he never had a strong enough backline during his time at the club.

26th January 2019 at 1:43 pm #32132Ed, I don’t think United were ever as bad as some were making out they finished in second place season.
I think it all began to unravel in the Summer when Jose didn’t get his way on transfers and then he gave the ghost up a bit going forwards and looked happy to be leaving, against that background I think a number of players weren’t playing for him and when you add all those ingredients together you have the perfect storm.
In comes Ole ex United with a bit of new Manager bounce combined and tells the players to go out and play the United way combine that with a relatively kind fixture list and suddenly the players who had stopped playing start to play again and with a few wins under their belt United look a different proposition now.
I agree you can’t look too far ahead and who will be available come the Summer anyway but I do think United need to get their next managerial appointment right this time and personally I’m not sure Ole is the right man medium to long term and if I was a United fan it would still be Poch for me who is now taking the domestic Cups more seriously imo. I’m not sure how well Pochettino saying “all Tottenham’s glory years are in black and white” will go down with both the Spurs hierarchy and their fans. A sign of his frustrations at Spurs?
But Ole is a decent fella and if he can continue somewhere near this current vein of form he probably deserves the chance to have a go at it permanently. Cheers 999

26th January 2019 at 2:36 pm #32135Ed, football is changing but Jose is not. I think that’s his problem.
Absolute mouth piece who has lost all of his charm. Delighted he’s gone from the pl and it’s nit because he was utd manager. Just can’t stabd the man and hope we never see him in the pl again.

26th January 2019 at 2:41 pm #32137My opinion is that getting rid of Jose is the most significant factor not Solskear’s genius as a manager. As a City fan I hope he gets the job. Cant knock it though a string of results.
But……..do Utd fans really believe he is the answer?_____________________________

26th January 2019 at 2:55 pm #32140Atesnal are absolutely terrible st the back. They have no idea how to play a high line. It takes time to perfect but they really just show no balls at times

26th January 2019 at 2:56 pm #32141It’s way too early to tell if he is the answer. I think there’s some truth to the theory that anyone coming in would have got this lift from the players but it’s a tad naive to think that lift alone is enough to have the start he’s had. He out-thought both Emery and Poch, with Spurs coming back strong only once Utd started to tire. No amount of encouraging arms around the shoulder alone can be solely responsible for that when you’re talking about experienced managers. A much bigger test will be when Liverpool come to OT, where I just can’t see us winning despite this start.

26th January 2019 at 2:56 pm #32142Much stronger City team and squad now they’re over their injuries Sean.
But they’re fighting on four fronts.
I would still prefer Liverpool’s 4 point cushion though.?

26th January 2019 at 2:57 pm #32143A happy worker is a good worker, and for one or many reasons the Man U players were not happy. Ole seems to have come in and put the sunshine back in their lives, which is having an effect on how they work/play. However there is a downside, next time they’re unhappy (and by that I mean asked to do things they don’t want to) will they try and pull the same stunt and expect the same result, that is get rid of the manager?….Pagan

26th January 2019 at 2:59 pm #32144Nine, Ole getting the job is no doubt only possible if he gets top 4, which would mean 1 less CL spot for the rest. It might not be all that good for your boys if Ole continues the way he’s going!

26th January 2019 at 2:59 pm #32145Arsenal were shocking again defensively last night and it only highlights how poor Chelsea were last week.
I don’t think Arsenal are capable of securing 4th place with their defence but we’ll see.

26th January 2019 at 3:45 pm #32151Poch would be crazy to want to come to United when he has the likes of Barca and Real Madrid as a possibility.
