Weren’t we asked by the FA to go to Brazil to aid the WC bid? I’m sure it wasn’t our decision.
Pesky FA then refused permission to play a weakened team in the FA cup.But the question isn’t about pulling out of the FA cup, it should be about whether or not we tried to win trophies that year. That’s what is being levelled at Spurs – that the manager has said he is not interested in winning trophies as it only builds egos.
Ironically I see that Lamella has come out and said he wants to win trophies.

28th January 2019 at 8:00 pm #32307AnonymousGood to see David Gill got us another easy FA cup draw, and gave City the hardest match in the round.
If this carries on he’ll get caught out.

28th January 2019 at 8:03 pm #32309Anonymous9, So they had another game they wanted to play rather than the FA Cup, exactly the same as Spurs mate we have another priority but I’m done with the crap we are getting.

28th January 2019 at 8:07 pm #32310AnonymousAlfie, so you were willing to field a weakened team in the FA Cup , you concentrate on your team and I will on mine.

28th January 2019 at 8:15 pm #32311TBA, bit different mate Poch seems to be suggesting that domestic Cup aren’t worth winning.

YNo point in any of us falling out over it though buddie. Cheers 999

28th January 2019 at 8:21 pm #32313TBAN19, tbf mate, as Alfie and Nine have already pointed out, United were basically backed into a corner by the FA, hoping to boost their 2006 WC bid.

28th January 2019 at 8:34 pm #32315AnonymousTBA – I couldn’t care less about Spurs, nor fielding a weakened team; everyone does it once in a while. We often do it.
I find it utterly bizarre that a football manager is adverse to winning trophies! What’s the point in playing professional football?
Think about it for a moment, you have a football manager who doesn’t actually want to win anything. Nothing at all. Not one trophy. He doesn’t want to win a trophy in case his players obtain egos.
And to think Arsenal were mocked for winning the ‘top four trophy’ year after year.

In that respect he’s had unbelievable success ?_____________________________

28th January 2019 at 8:43 pm #32320AnonymousAlfie, would it have been better if he said we have to have CL next season and Cups are a lesser priority, if you listen to him on a regular basis which I do 3/4 times a week you quickly learn he rambles, talks nonsense and never actually answers the question, what he said about the cups was poor and he could have answered a hell of a lot better. Am I gutted we are out?? feckin right I am but do we need CL next season more yes.
One good thing he won’t be coming to Utd now._____________________________

28th January 2019 at 9:18 pm #32325TBA, like Chucky earlier you missed my point and Alfie seems to be making the same point. I’m actually shocked that Spurs fans aren’t majorly peed off right now at Poch. It makes no difference to me what he does or says. I’d rather Spurs were out of the cup. It makes it easier for the rest of us.
I was just amazed at Poch talking as though the cup is beneath him. Does he honestly think Spurs fans want to look back in 10 years and say “Ah I remember when we got top 4 in 18/19. What memories we have to cherish!” My point being that nobody should be saying cups are not important. Certainly not a manager as good as he is. This was genuinely not a wind up. I thought the Spurs fans would completely agree with me and that it was the younger fans who care more about being in the CL group stage that might agree with Poch. I think he’s doing the fans a huge disservice with his disregard for the cups but I’m fine with you disagreeing with me.

28th January 2019 at 9:27 pm #32328TBA, if you’re “done with the amount of crap you’re getting” over this, thank the stars you aren’t a Utd or Chelsea fan mate. Pretty much every day for us this kind of stuff, particularly under Mourinho!

28th January 2019 at 9:36 pm #323294th Spot and onwards from a fan’s POV is like a poison chalice. Yes, your team gets to compete with the Elite, but you have to think realistically about your chances of actually being able to win it.
Financially of course, it’s lucrative, but I take my own club’s example in not having won a Cup for 7 years – not good at all.
Interestingly, thinking about Arsenal under Wenger’s reign in underachieving or ‘dropping down a level or two’, The Gunners actually hold the most FA Cup Titles.
Maybe there’s a correlation too in a trophy being harder to win if you’ve not won it for a long time as we’ve experienced in recent years ala the Prem Title.
Fans eventually reach a point where they just had enough in being the Bridesmaid and want somebody in charge with a clear intent to achieve success in Silverware.

28th January 2019 at 10:14 pm #32332For me I love the FA Cup as it’s what got me into football & become a LFC fan at a young age. My grandfather (RIP legend) used to get me up at stupid o’clock to watch the Cup & when Craig Johnston scored in a final he said “that blokes an Aussie mate”. From then on I was a red.
That said, all the romantics & emotion aside, as much as we don’t like it football is a business these days & the money involved in the C/L now has more importance to a club that has ambitions to be up the top & attract top players than the cups.
Pretty much no top team puts out their best side until the latter stages of the cups (maybe c$ty the exception as their 2nd team is as good as most clubs top team) so whilst Poch maybe shouldn’t have said what he did, most top managers thinks the same._____________________________

28th January 2019 at 11:57 pm #32333AnonymousEd , I’m good , you do get your fair share along with Chelsea but you don’t have the press trying to sell your best players on a daily basis, the same press who are doing their best to get Poch a new job at Utd, Barca, RM etc now that is like a red rag to a bull for me.
I am convinced Poch is playing a game, he’s not eloquent, but he not daft, I believe he is calling Levy out for his lack of investment after all it’s not his ,the players or the fans fault that our new ground is coming in roughly double what was originally stated, that is all down to a certain Mr Levy._____________________________

29th January 2019 at 6:30 am #32334But TBA, every single club has their players linked elsewhere. If you’re experiencing it more than usual with Spurs, it’s because your players and manager are performing well. Ironically, the Poch talk will probably calm down now after these quotes. I wish Mourinho did a good enough job for us so that he was being linked with other clubs. I’d much rather that than underperforming.

29th January 2019 at 7:53 am #32335What grinds my gears is this natural assumption by many that ALL players and ALL managers ALL want to play for YooUtd casue they’re supposedly the best thing since slice bread. Had it for years and it does twist my nipples for sure.
Don’t understand it, they’re just some commercial enterprise speciallizing in selling noodles in South Korea based in London with a football team somewhere norff of Watforjd… “we’re the red devils”… ooOOOooOOooo so scary!
No wonder Banjo has them #1 on his list of teams he loves to watch fail… 🙂

29th January 2019 at 7:54 am #32336AnonymousEd, pretty sure Mourinho was linked to PSG and Madrid whilst Utd manager. His agent even came out and released a press statement saying that he wasn’t interested in the other roles and would see his contract out at Utd.
De Gea – linked to Madrid
Young – Galatasaray
Lindleof – Everton
Rojo – Wolves
Bailly – Arsenal
Shaw – Newcastle
Hererra – Barca, Bilboa, Arsenal
Pogba – Barca, Juventus
Martial – Arsenal, Juventus
Sanchez – PSG
Rashford – Madrid
Mata – Arsenal, Barca
Pereira – Arsenal
etc, etcHappens at all clubs.

29th January 2019 at 7:57 am #32337AnonymousAnd from the BBC today:
Manchester United will not settle for a top-four finish this season and are “looking to win trophies”, says interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. So players might prefer to join clubs with ambitions to win things? Just a thought.
