If he got a red for that, then Liverpool should have had about 42 reds earlier… that was the softest since Buffy’s favourite pink panties…

29th January 2023 at 6:38 pm #203383Arguably better effort all round from Wrexham than Liverpool! Magic of the Cup is alive. A few quid for the club earning a replay at Bramall Lane.

29th January 2023 at 6:45 pm #203384No excuses again. We are poor and the season is a right off. Absolutely no idea how fabhino wasnt sent off.
Paul money could have been spent for a midfielder I agree but we are always looking to balance the books. We have spent over 50m net once. Itβs not proper support like Arsenal, Chelsea etc have got. We have spent money but no were near what others have.
We wouldnβt have signed gakpo if Diaz and jota werenβt injured. I get what your saying . The forward line is sorted for a few years.
If Klopp gets 200m net to spend this summer then I can see us really pushing on but this season is gone. We are very poor at the moment and no excuses.

29th January 2023 at 6:53 pm #203385We are the 3rd highest spenders in 2022, not spending cannot be an excuse. Not spending wisely is a different argument. And you should never buy a player for 30-40m because a couple are injured for a few games. What happens to Gakpo when Jota and Diaz return? I have a feeling one will go in the summer.

29th January 2023 at 6:55 pm #203386What a buy Casemiro is turning out to be. Makes a difference to the United side.
commiseration to the Liverpool gents on here. After all the miracles Klopp has delivered, you probably needed a season like this in order for the board to wake up and realise he needs proper investment.

29th January 2023 at 7:15 pm #2033873ps, fully agree with your point. We signed a player that went injured in Melo. We now rely on a 37 year old. Money’s been spent, but the signings unfortunately haven’t hit the ground running in Nunez and Gakpo.
We’re not addressing the problems that need to be addressed, i.e. midfield. That needs sorting. I don’t know why Klopp is taking the direction of Elliot and Bajcetic. There’s no purpose, no style, no authority. Teams have been allowed to play their game against us.
We definitely need to make some big decisions this summer and there are players quite simply that will need to move on. Fabinho possibly one of them.

29th January 2023 at 7:30 pm #203388Maybe bobby will go threeps? Jota only signed anew deal and Diaz is only here a year? Be very surprised if jota or Diaz leave
Ah who k led to be honest. Areal mess at the minute and canβt see anything changing this season

29th January 2023 at 7:39 pm #203389Haven’t seen much of Liverpool to be honest, recently. How has Gakpo been playing? Is he doing alright but just not scoring or is he just mot doing much?

29th January 2023 at 7:41 pm #203390Are we really the third highest net spending in 2022 threeps do you include gakpo in that who really didnβt sign till 1st jan?
I thought a few clubs be a head of us so thatβs a bit of a surprise.
We have debated for years that we needed new midfielders. You always said we didnβt and now we need two and a centre back. We need 200 million net to compete next season. We have spent over 50m net once. Chelsea have spent More net in 5 months then Klopp had in7 years so money is a bit of an excuse.
our front line is now sorted for a long time. It was like years ago when people argued we didnt need another forward when bobby, Salah and mane were flying. We signed jota and he did play. We have needed midfielders years now. Itβs not a new thing all of a sudden

29th January 2023 at 7:42 pm #203391Imagine telling someone 2 years ago that Arsenal would look lightyears ahead of Liverpool now. You’d have been laughed out of the room. Those two clubs, for different reasons, perfectly showcase how quickly a club’s fortunes can change.

29th January 2023 at 7:42 pm #203392I know some of the players can play other positions but Diaz, Jota and Gakpo primarily play as a right footed AML. The last few games Nunez has played there too with Gakpo playing central (Jota can of course also play there) which i cannot get my head arohnd the thinking. Carvahlo I think needs to leave for his career maybe a loan or maybe permanent.
If we are looking to replace Bobby (talk of a short term contract on going) shouldn’t we replace him with someone who primarily plays in that position rather than as a additional string to their bow? Or is this the plan with Gakpo hence him starting there, but then why sign Nunez?
So many questions about the direction the team is going at the moment! We look like Utd under Ole with no identity, wrong signings and wrong team selections.

29th January 2023 at 7:44 pm #203393Thanks for your replies Sean Threeps & Nike. From an outsider looking in.Most of the blame for Liverpool’s drop off this season should be laid at FSG’s door. They’ve ridden on the back of JK’s
brilliance over the last few years.I’d love to know the reasons why consecutive sporting director’s Michael Edwards left. Then Julian Ward going (at the end of the season) My own view if Liverpool don’t get 4th place this season. They’ll be no Β£200M investment in the summer (certainly not from FSG)

29th January 2023 at 7:51 pm #203394I’ll be honest. I still think Liverpool will somehow get top 4. I think either us or Newcastle will let a side in and I fancy Liverpool to have a resurgence and just sneak in. Get top 4, get Bellingham in and another midfielder and they’re back challenging again IMO.

29th January 2023 at 7:56 pm #203395Sorry Sean apparently it’s the 3rd highest spend on international transfers
https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/64412215.amp
PPT I don’t blame the owners they are not the ones training the players or choosing the signings. They out up a huge amount for Nunez and later a sizable amount for Gakpo. They’ve in the past spent record amounts on players like Alisson and VvD. Klopp has been backed, not to City or Chelsea levels, but he has still spent lots.
No idea about the reasons behind Edwards and Ward leaving. Did they jump or were they pushed? I think Klopp has actually relinquished too much control and needs to get it back to his way and identity.

29th January 2023 at 7:57 pm #203396Ed, we have absolutely no chance of top 4 as we are so bad at the minute. We really look poor but I donβt believe we will bounce back next season. I really do but this season is gone and Iβd rather finish 8th with no Europa place
I still think we can attract players without cl money but thatβs if we have money to spend. Big money

29th January 2023 at 8:02 pm #203397Threeps, Iβve heard pep has to much control (donβt know what to believe) and Edwards and ward didnβt like the direction we were heading. His book was a silly thing to do aswell.
Sorry the above should state I really believe we can challenge next season and bounce back

29th January 2023 at 8:34 pm #203399As threeps says, this isn’t about money. I personally think this is the classic case of a club who reached the top and then got a bit drunk on the success and forgot the methods that got them there. I’m not writing Nunez off yet, but to spend that much money on someone so raw to me reeked of the club almost trying to make a statement by buying “hot property” in Europe whilst neglecting other positions. Gakpo also currently looks a long way off imo. And even if you take the position that Thiago is our best midfielder, we’re now relying on yet another older player liable to injuries in midfield. He wasn’t bought with the future in mind.
To echo what Ed says, it can take years to build something. But it can be undone in an afternoon.

29th January 2023 at 8:38 pm #203400Ed, I honestly can’t see us getting Top 4. We’re not even good for upper mid-table at the moment. We’re poor. For a while, I have seen for example any real authority on possession and ball retention, not sustained. No passing the ball too methodically the exhibits purpose and meaningful play.
We look lost and short of confidence. Lots of players even Konate look like they’ve been on kryptonite. More at this point of time in one game at a time.
Brighton deserve their victory today. Decent manager too and by the looks of it, good scouting in bringing players through and integrating them into the first 11.
