Yes I suppose managers are entitled to select whatever team they deem to be right, unfortunately Klopp was wrong in the past by selecting weaker teams for this competition and strangely enough he did the very opposite yesterday when in fact he should have done that what he did previously. However tbe FA is largely to blame for this riduclous rules that the games must go ahead with much weakened teams, they didn’t go ahead last season when the far less severe virus strain was running loose.

9th January 2021 at 10:37 am #173511For me, it’s still a bit embarrassing the way we conceded that goal and the way we were really made to work. These kids at times were like T1000’s! Super Fast.
It was a little like England-San Marino. I don’t know whether Mane needs resting even though he’s coming up with the goods. It’s not fair on the bloke. Other players need to step up as well, consistently.
We’re still a patch up job in defense. Milner now is showing his age. We’re being exposed because we’ve already been founded out by teams, even Kids!

9th January 2021 at 12:52 pm #173515Sean, got a little bit of that thought mate at the back of my mind; Rashford or Martial. Pace and their strive to go forward will expose us. Every established center back is on the injury list and we cannot buy one at the moment.
A sorry state of affairs. Fabinho is trying, but at the end of the day he isn’t a centre back. My only thought is Nathanial Phillips. To add to our woes Trent’s out of sorts. We can play a formation so that the there is more protection for the defense.
Hopefully, Naby and Matip are ready. We have a very good rest period between now and next Sunday.

9th January 2021 at 1:34 pm #173516Derby team v Chorley:”Six players come from the clubโs Under-23s squad, whilst five are from the Under-18s. Only one player has league experience.”
Ridiculous if the virus continues to effect Clubs as it is playing the ties under current FA guidelines makes a mockery of the competition and tarnishes the reputation of the oldest Cup competition in the world.
It should be cancelled for this season if this is the best we can do otherwise there is a danger that this season’s FA Cup will be called the Pandemic Cup and there will be no honour at all in winning it.

9th January 2021 at 2:20 pm #173517Got my 2 hours of ironing done whilst watching Everton. What’s intriguing for the very first time just as we witnessed last year is there’s no fans for these FA Cup Matches and the level of competitiveness and quality and fight is matching up.
Well Done to Ancelotti’s men but Rotherham you have to say in the second half put up a really good fight.

9th January 2021 at 2:39 pm #173518Fabulous result for Chorley, even taking into consideration they were playing a team of U23s – they only conceded one attempt on target throughout the match. Chorley also hit the bar and had one cleared off the line.
Always been my non-league club since my Dad played for them in the early 1970s. In normal times (whatever they are) go to watch them four or five times a season.
Not sure I agree with your post @ 1:34, Nine, this is a ‘lifeline’ to some lower and non-league sides in the current climate. Chorley will receive around ยฃ140,000 from TV fees and prizemoney just for winning their 3rd round tie; that’s on top of what they received from winning games in rounds 1 and 2._____________________________

9th January 2021 at 2:47 pm #173519That’s why I would never have this competition abolished. There is still some magic in there and the spirit too. In my case, taking off those Red Tinted Specs lol.

9th January 2021 at 3:09 pm #173520There is absolutely no magic in beating youth teams Nil. Derby as poor as they’ve been this season there’s every chance they would have beaten Chorley had they been able to field a more experienced team.
The magic of the FA Cup will be long gone certainly for this season if this continues.

9th January 2021 at 3:31 pm #173522“Steve Bruce has questioned the decision to allow Aston Villa to play a youth team against Liverpool, saying it โdevaluesโ the FA Cup.
Villaโs entire first team is in self-isolation after an outbreak of coronavirus. Indeed, the announcement of a raft of positive tests only came on Thursday, when the club closed its training ground.
As such, Fridayโs clash with the Reds was in doubt but Under-23s boss Mark Delaney will take charge of a youthful team.
Newcastle boss Bruce, meanwhile, is still struggling with the aftermath of his own sideโs recent outbreak. However, he feels that opting to play a weakened side is not the solution to a lack of squad numbers.
The manager said: โI think it devalues the FA Cup.
โWe understand the restrictions, the season has been squashed and there is no room for anything else. (But) to play weakened teams and your youth team is not the way round it for me, personally.
Newcastle are still feeling the after-effects of their own coronavirus outbreak. Captain Jamaal Lascelles only received given the green light to resume training this week after shaking off the virus.
Alain Saint-Maximin, meanwhile, has returned to Tyneside but is still awaiting the all-clear.
Bruce admitted he felt conflicted about continuing the season, adding: โWe have had two players who were very, very sick and one or two members of staff who were nearly hospitalised.
โItโs not been easy but yes weโll keep going along โ financially itโs right but maybe morally itโs wrong.
โAll of us are suffering and we are the lucky ones providing an entertainment that people are tuning into to watch, but there will come a stage where we have to make a decision, we hope in the next two or three weeks, (because) we donโt want to see these outbreaks.โ

9th January 2021 at 3:33 pm #173523Nine, I fully appreciate and emphasize with your disappointment on how everything re the FA Cup has unfolded so far and I know you’re on a bit of a downer on this and fair play to you.
Personally, I’m ultra grateful the Sport was given the Green Light by the Government. Life’s tough at the moment as you’re aware. Some of us mate need something over the weekend to occupy us against the daily domestics and work.
I do get your point on a more level playing field as far as players go. This will probably be a one-off (here’s hoping). The only way of this becoming more fairer if they FA intervene and postpone at the very least the original scheduling.

9th January 2021 at 3:36 pm #173524Nike. I do not think Nine means abolishing it forever…just this season and all the evidence at the moment appears to support stopping it now before it goes any further, if not, we will see more clubs suffering and what happen if there is just one death amongst it all, which I hope not, it will be one too many

9th January 2021 at 3:41 pm #173525My further thought on this is a football club has no special status, after all, engineering works, textile companies, retail shops etc etc are all suffering the same way and have a bigger impact for our future prosperity.
Stopping football means stopping some enjoyment and being a football fan I can live with that until we get control of this virus_____________________________

9th January 2021 at 3:44 pm #173526More thought…Arsenal borrow 120 million to help service a loan they have for buying the stadium or even buying the next player….how can that be right?
The loan has to be re paid…true…and who will pay for it……just guess…yes look at the next season prices

9th January 2021 at 4:25 pm #173528I can’t believe some on here have criticised Klopp for his team selection last night,,,you are kidding, right?
I do think there is an argument for cancelling this season’s FA Cup as it is somewhat farcical, I see Sheff Wed have only 4 subs today for example, but the counter argument is the money that the small clubs will make, Gary’s Chorley being a prime example, and indeed my very own Marine tomorrow. There may not be the glory for Chorley beating Derby’s kids, but there IS the cash, and of course the possibility of drawing one of the really big boys in the next round, like Marine have.
The mighty Marine will take Chorley in round 4!!

9th January 2021 at 4:40 pm #173529“Some of us mate need something over the weekend to occupy us against the daily domestics and work.”
I get all that Nil it’s the same for everyone though some people aren’t seeing their families at all for months on end and some people are struggling with serious illnesses too and Football and Sport is a good relief valve for everyone.
In the circumstances for football we were in before this terrible virus became even more terrible things were ok and the football was enjoyable but right now there’s little to no entertainment in teams having to play youth teams to get Round 3 completed.
Obviously as Brian pointed out I don’t want to abolish the FA Cup I love the competition but this is not the FA Cup and if it continues as it is at the moment the right thing to do by the FA imo is to cancel this year’s competition.
The outbreaks amongst squads are just too great and Clubs facing youth teams is just distorting the competition.
If things don’t improve I think the PL is under risk too as are the CL and EL too!

9th January 2021 at 4:43 pm #173530Hightown…it is the old story, put 100 fans in a room to pick a team and they will all come up with a different team. Everyone has an opinion but only the Managers count, right or wrong
