That’s definitely the salt in the wounds. And I thought we were having a terrible (by our standards!) season.

8th January 2023 at 6:26 pm #202509Problem is Boehly could look across to Newcastle who also have a newish owner and a newish manager and they have rocketed up the league and they were in relegation fights before that. Assuming Newcastle stay there this season, that sets a high bar and expectation on every other club with ambition.

8th January 2023 at 6:35 pm #202510Mikus, come end of season boehly will for sure reassess.
What I am scared of now is how quickly the media have decided what potters remit is and that he isnt up for it. They are after blood, look at the press conference after last city game and the damn disgraceful questions he was presented with. None were designed to get any real insight into the project, they were all designed to feed the narrative that chelsea is too big for him and he lucky to still be in job. It really is vicious stuff and while I am not sure if he will succeed, seeing him have to deal with this nonsense only increases my support for him.
We build them up to smash them down it’s so shameful.

8th January 2023 at 6:36 pm #202511BTW, I am not exaggerating, he was literally asked if he feels lucky not to have been sacked yet! It’s awful journalism.

8th January 2023 at 6:39 pm #202512Lucky-
A manager is always judged on results. There is nothing in place to indicate Chelsea results will pick up under Potter. Ten Hag was being hammered after the 1st few games and has got results since, same with Howe at Newcastle. Klopp got them at Liverpool. It seems like the players are not playing for Potter.

8th January 2023 at 6:47 pm #202513CM of course you are judged on results but it has to be over a reasonable period and with careful consideration of the circumstances.it’s your opinion that it can’t get better over time for Potter at Chelsea but it has yet to be demonstrated its too early.
You might not see a way back, but just like under tuchel, you may find results are better when the best players are fit. Not a coincidence that tuchel did better with kante, James and chilwell than he did without. We need our better players fit to see an improvement. You can believe otherwise, but as a Chelsea fan who knows my team inside and out, the players we have available for Potter are simply not good enough to compete for top 6 let alone top 4 this season and its no coincidence that tuchel was a world class manager when our best players were available and “losing the plot” when they weren’t.

8th January 2023 at 6:56 pm #202517He needs time lucky. He gets his teams playing great football once given time. Unfortunately the media never look at injuries when itβs a very legitimate reason for some teams form.
All teams have suffered big injuries this season. Itβs just never considered by the vultures in the media who are looking to try bring everyone down.

8th January 2023 at 7:02 pm #202518Exactly Sean it’s one extreme or another with them.
Potter may not work out but it has yet to be determined and only time will tell.

8th January 2023 at 7:03 pm #202519Potter is a good but not a fantastic manager and needs time. Also look at Chelsea injuries.
But he does need a result that’s for sure._____________________________

8th January 2023 at 7:15 pm #202521Humphrey was the only bright spot. Next two games are crucial. 10 players out injured isn’t helping at all 6 of which are definite starters when fit Chilwell and James who are integral to Chelsea haven’t played together for 43 games.

8th January 2023 at 7:15 pm #202523I agree with what you are saying Lucky. He does need time to turn things around, but the media are judging him on the back of only winning 1 league game since taking charge of the club.
Truthfully, I donβt know much about Potter besides from his Brighton side humbling United on a few occasions.
Being a United fan, I know what it is like when we get a manager in who did well at a smaller club and didnβt go to plan when he joined us. It is different level of expectations, Potter may be a good tactician, but he also needs to deal with big name players and big personalities too now.
I hope Potter does work out at Chelsea and I am glad a English manager is finally given a chance to take charge of a elite club in the PL.

Chelsea have sacked managers for less than this, havenβt they? π pic.twitter.com/WHX31woqen

8th January 2023 at 7:33 pm #202526Yeah that’s not all his games, it cuts off a few good results.
The win percentage is surely below what chelsea are used too, but what puzzles me is why it’s all put on Potter? Can anyone think of any reasons at all apart from Potter that chelsea are having a terrible season? I said it would be a disaster before tuchel was sacked so I can help if anyone is struggling here π
And if you look at those results with all considered there are only 2 that really piss me off, the loss against Brighton and draw against forest last weekend. I expected better despite our problems in these specific games.
