CM, the last 2 years recruitment under roman were shockingly bad.
Boehly came in and in hardly anytime had to work with tuchel to fill gaps in the squad in the summer and we didn’t do great business at all. It was very rushed and almost impossible fir a new owner to come in and hit the ground running with efficient work in the transfer market.
The focus from boehly here on though is mainly young players under age of 22 and its obviously not going to pay off in short term.

8th January 2023 at 5:47 pm #202482Banjo, 18 months is par for course at Chelsea.
Potter could have bitten off more than he can chew but that’s just wishful thinking from your POV and fearing the worst from my POV. Neither of us can tell after a few months all considered.

8th January 2023 at 5:48 pm #202484Will the Chelsea board be as patient as the Arsenal board? And possibly tolerate several seasons out the CL. That’s the question.

8th January 2023 at 5:50 pm #202486Ed, koulibaly used to be a lot quicker and was dominant in serie a. He deserved his respect but the prem is different altogether especially when your biggest attributes were physical and they are on the rapid decline.
Completely different to silva who is just so much smarter and technically sound.

8th January 2023 at 5:54 pm #202489Mikus, if their strategy is to buy young then they have to have patience. I am optimistic that they will understand that and its probably the main reason Potter stood out like a sore thumb when they were looking for manager to oversee rebuild.

I understand what you are saying. I just think some signings have been bizarre. Aubameyang, Sterling and Koulibaly have not hit the ground running and the lb from Brighton was not needed because you had someone better in Chilwell.
But for some reason, this reminds me of Romans 1st summer when a lot of players were brought in and then you got Jose in a year later to gel them together.
Is Potter capable of doing that? We will see.

8th January 2023 at 5:59 pm #202491The thing is, Nepolean, Potter wasn’t under any pressure at all at Brighton, due to the size and expectations of the club, he could have probably got relegated and still keep his job… the fact that he had them quite safely in the Prem for a number of years, playing decent football and getting the odd “upset” just made him look better than what he is… now he completely went from no expectations to huge expectations, to a club that “expects” CL footy.. “expects” to be competing in everygame.. “expects” more than he can give… and now he also has Newcastle to compete with…
You may say “wishful” thinking on my part (and you wouldn’t be entirely wrong! 🙂 ) but I hope he stays forever, bit like how I always hoped Ole would stay forever at YooUtd…

8th January 2023 at 6:01 pm #202492No CM, nothing like when roman came in we were buying the very best players in the world at that time that were all ready to compete with utd and arsenal.
Yes the summer recruitment overall was poor.
Sterling I would have taken, but Cucurella for 6om was stupid and tuchel turning down ronaldo after boehly offered him and insisting on aubameyang was ridiculous. Imagine that, you get to pick between auba and rinakdo and you choose auba! 😳

8th January 2023 at 6:01 pm #202493@Mikus re: whether this Chelsea board will have the patience
That’s the big question. We have no idea as yet how patient Boehly is. Roman would have sacked him already but it’s impossible to say what Boehly will do. He wouldn’t be the first owner to come into the PL with some grand vision about buying young players cheap then selling them on at their peak value and rinse & repeat.

8th January 2023 at 6:03 pm #202495Ed, Roman wouldnt have appointed him in first place be able to sack him, would have sacked tuchel though.

8th January 2023 at 6:18 pm #202500I am not sure Lucky. When Roman arrived you got the likes of Crespo, Makalele and Veron in. Then brought in players for the future like Cole, Robben, Duff, Essien, Drogba, Carvalho, along with others. Many of those came from mid table sides or players from the Dutch, Portuguese or French league. They became big names at Chelsea.

8th January 2023 at 6:18 pm #202501Banjo no nerve touched and I am not feeling sorry for myself either like you love to assert you little gaslighter.
I don’t disagree with what you said in general that’s why I called it obvious. Only one way to find our if a manager is good enough at top level and that’s giving him time and resource and seeing if he can compete. He has earned his chance imo.
Our bias, while dictating our opinions, have no bearing on what will actually happen so while you could be right, and I fear he won’t be up to it too, only time will tell.
And whatever happens you will always hate chelsea 😀
