Ed I personally don’t think any credit is due at all to lampard and now he is sacked he is irrelevant to the conversation.
They are of course not relegated, and of course there are many managers who are better than lampard and who could theoretically improve the odds of Everton staying up. Everton were right to sack him.
All that aside though you wouldn’t argue against rafa’s credentials and Everton were near relegation zone under him too, hence he was sacked. Now I don’t say that to imply any credit to lamps, because as I said he is now irrelevant, I say it because I believe this is the worst Everton squad I have ever seen and they are where they are because of the squad they have built first and foremost. A new manager may just manage to keep them up, like lamps did last year to be fair by skin of their teeth, but without some decent players coming in I don’t think it matters much who the manager is, they will be 15th or lower and flirting with relegation with this team.
We will see, the Everton fans don’t deserve relegation but imo the owners do, for a huge number of stupid decisions they have made, one of which was appointing lamps, but that is one of many.

24th January 2023 at 5:50 pm #203273Just reading Newcastle are in talks for gordon, around 40m which is far below what chelsea are reported to have offered in the summer. Everton turning that down in summer is another one of their stupid decisions but I won’t criticise it because I am glad they did βΊοΈ
They should take the best offer they can get and look to get a goalscorer if they are serious about staying up.

24th January 2023 at 6:50 pm #203274I disagree about everton squad.not great but no way the poorest in the league. Very solid bsck 4 with huge pl experience but frank couldnβt make his mind up about a back 4 or back 5.they have sone decent players. He wanted to keep Gordon but heβs hardly featured in Frankβs 1st 11 recently. Major mistake not selling him for stupid money to Chelsea.
They have englands number 1. Richardlson has proven to be a good sale as hasnβt even scored a pl goal. They have an injuries. Dacoure and guye are not bad players. Onana is a very good young player.
He signed McNeil for 20m but hardly plays
him. He has no style of play and changes formation far to much. He is out of his depth in the plAll teams have circumstances that are difficult. Sean dyche would propel them up the league in m view.

Lucky, Rafa left them 6 points clear of relegation and with 2 games in hand. Lampard finished the season 4 points clear. It’s a bit of a stretch to suggest they stayed up because of him.

24th January 2023 at 7:05 pm #203276I don’t think they have the worst squad in the league either Sean. But I don’t think it is anywhere near what it should be and much closer to a relegation team than a team pushing for European places. It’s not in top 12 in league imo, maybe top 15 though, and while I do expect a better manager to do a better job, I also think Everton have a very low ceiling and it may not be much higher than where they currently are.
I don’t think you can write off sale of richarlison because he hardly featured/scored for spurs since he left, it’s what he offered Everton that mattered and the squad has been getting weaker and weaker, can blame lamps for the poor recruits on his watch but the team is worse now than it was when he inherited it and same could very said of benitez, its a clear trajectory.
Be interesting case study to see just how much better an experienced and effective manager can do in the circumstances.
Only wish Everton fans the best.

24th January 2023 at 7:07 pm #203277Ed, I said they scraped it by skin of their teeth, I give him no credit as I was clear to say.

24th January 2023 at 7:09 pm #203278And p.s Ed yes they weren’t in relegation zone but the trajectory was downwards under rafa and sped up under lamps.
Is anyone actually arguing that lamps is a competent prem manager or that everton shouldn’t have sacked him then? I’m confused as to why we still arguing about how shit he was, everyone agrees he not up to it.

24th January 2023 at 7:13 pm #203279And yes it is a stretch to say it Ed because I didn’t, they stayed up in spite of him, I was saying of course another manager could keep them up because even lamps did to be fair and he is, as clearly and unanimously agreed, and poor manager! π€£
But squad even worse now imo so we will see, especially with what they do in market if they sell Gordon.

24th January 2023 at 7:35 pm #203280Fair enough Lucky. I thought you were suggesting Lampard was responsible for them staying up.

25th January 2023 at 4:24 pm #203289I’m reading that onana and Gordon not training with them and could be sold.
That may give them money but good luck finding players that want to play for everton to spend it on!
They could come out of January with an even worse squad and owners who want to sell the club. Any manager who goes there now can only see it as short term because only God knows what is going to happen there.

26th January 2023 at 5:07 am #203295Gordon is only slightly better than Mount, both players blow hot and cold and have off form periods. But maybe with Howe he will improve. Newcastle with their lofty ambitions should be going for better players.

27th January 2023 at 6:35 am #203299He just seems like such a weird manager Lucky to come in halfway through the season. The players are used to a real mish mash of playing styles under Lampard and will be expected to adopt a well drilled, organised high pressing game. Feels a little bit like when we replaced Ole with Rangnick. It might work for them for the simple reason that the players will be well up for a change.

27th January 2023 at 9:42 am #203300Sky reporting that Sean Dyche is to be appointed Everton Manager today.
Probably the most sensible decision the Everton Board have made in a while every chance Dyche will keep Everton up.

27th January 2023 at 11:24 am #203305Yeah Dyche surely the best bet. It’s one of those though where Everton probably don’t fancy him long term but they know he’s probably their best chance of staying up so there’ll likely be a conflict over the length of contract.
