7th April 2018 at 2:22 pm #19605Well, we got through the 90 mins and we didn’t lose given the context of Wednesday’s game and this being a Mersey derby.
I think the only real disappointment is the lacking in the quality of the depth of the squad beyond Salah, which Jurgen Klopp I’m sure is aware of and will need to bring in some fresh faces in the summer.
Just gotta hope the teams beneath us slip up and City beat Man United.

7th April 2018 at 2:38 pm #19607AnonymousIs that you Number8?
Can I just be honest, I just wasn’t looking forward to this game very much. Getting top 4 is extremely important to us but my mind is on the City game. I was glad to see that we rested a few and hope Salah can be fit to at least make the bench for the big one.
It’s a matter of immediate priorities and I think it’ll pay off to have fresher legs for the City return leg. 3 goals is fantastic but I want that away goal, Klopp clearly does too.
Good to see Wijnaldum looking sharp and to give Ings and Solanke a proper run out, it’s a shame one of them couldnt score but they’ll need more time to get that sharpness and you never know when these starts might pay off down the road, if they are needed to be called upon.
How weird was it to see a derby with 0 yellow cards?

7th April 2018 at 2:50 pm #19609Anonymous“Why risk Mane though?”
Ya, I just think we don’t have the squad depth to rest him. Of all the things that Klopp does right, his preferred squad size is just too thin.
“Ings has surely gotta be on his way out this summer.”
His first start in 2+ years and you’re having a go at him? You might be right but I’m not sure what you expect to see from a player who’s been limited to the bench as he’s slowly recovered from back to back, near career ending injuries.
He’s not meant to be played out wide. I remember having to have the same discussion on the old site when certain people wanted to drop Firmino and buy a “20 goal a season striker”. Now look at him. As for Ings, he’s contending for that one position. Klopp should probably rest Bobby here and there so Ings can get more match time but he’s too important to us. Ings at least provides good cover. You saw him come on against Watford when we had our first team out and firing, he nearly scored a few times and his saved shot is what setup Salah for the last goal.
It doesn’t help our “second string” team that we went out of the domestic cups early. Klopp probably gives less time to players off the bench than all but maybe 1-2 managers in the league. This is also the season where Firmino has been mastering his craft to a large extent. So, it’s a tough time for Ings and the like. We should be willing to watch them make their first start in ages and not throw up the for sale signs.

7th April 2018 at 2:53 pm #19610Right decision by Klopp to rest the players he did with CL football virtually secured and where you finish 2 to 4 apart from prize money is pretty meaningless especially as now all 4 teams go into the CL draw.
Poor 2nd half Everton are toothless in attack and Liverpool shorn of their Kryptonite aren’t the same team.
A much bigger game beckons for Liverpool on Tuesday and having rested players that should help them get through it and move on to the CL Semi Finals.

7th April 2018 at 3:26 pm #19612I agree about the lack of squad depth in this Liverpool team.JK needs to address that in the summer and add a few more players during the summer.

7th April 2018 at 6:11 pm #19639AnonymousI don’t think Klopp will add more players without others leaving. He just doesn’t like big squads and although I can see why, we’ll need strength in depth if we’re to challenge for the title.
I’m not complaining, we have a chance of winning the Champions League and that’s amazing.

8th April 2018 at 12:37 pm #19765Looked at those currently on loan and it’s probably fair to assume, Klopp doesn’t really want these players like Origi and Markovic. How well have they progressed elsewhere?
I do miss Jon Flanagan though, but we have plenty now for that right-back pos.
Shame Ings hasn’t really worked out for us. Solanke looks like a rabbit in headlights at times, but on other occasions looks as though he could be effective for us.
Was just thinking along the lines of somebody like Josh King just as a squad striker. I actually don’t know why we didn’t go in for Theo Walcott. I don’t think he’s been that good for Everton and could have partnered the Ox instead.

8th April 2018 at 2:20 pm #19770AnonymousI’m not saying we won’t spend. I would imagine that some of the Coutinho money was pre-spent alright. They knew he wanted out and that we had a buyer ready… but I don’t think we’ll ever have a big squad.

8th April 2018 at 2:30 pm #19771It takes properly a good 3-4 years for a new manager to come him and develop his own squad.
Klopp inherited Brendan’s players who himself inherited what other predecessors had left, even a couple of what Rafa bought in Lucas and Skrtel.
