On the bright side 9, should Chelsea win the CL this season, as it may be the last one, theyβd probably be able to keep the original trophy…..Pagan

19th April 2021 at 4:17 pm #177787But guys can they really ban players etc? Players are paid to play for their clubs?
The clubs arenβt doing any illegal are they? Morally itβs wrong in my view but are there rules/contracts/to stop the clubs from joining this etc? Be interesting to know.
Hopefully it can be resolved amicably but the way the clubs have gone about it, is quite sly
Still UEFA, fifa arenβt exactly the most noble bodies

19th April 2021 at 4:28 pm #177790Sean it shows how bad things are when we are looking at FIFA/EUAFA to be the moral ones and look to them to do the right thing π€£

19th April 2021 at 4:28 pm #177791Chin up, Adders, cyber fingers crossed all goes well!
Waspy, from what I can gather from here, there and everywhere, there’s nothing FA/UEFA/FIFA can actually do. The legal precedent has been set with various “cases” concerning other sports (speed-skating, ice-hockey, basketball and that bonkers game the Bacon-Muncher likes) whereby European Governing Bodies can’t actually stop “clubs” from joining other competitions if they so choose, as long as they’re not breaking existing agreements/contracts.
With regards to the CL/EL, technically that’s an “invitation” tourney, there’s absolutely nothing saying any of the Judas 12 “have to compete if they are invited”.
With regards to the Premiership, none of the English clubs is threatening to leave that, so they’re not actually in any “breach of contract”, so sod all anybody can do about it.
The only recourse is what “punishment” UEFA/FIFA/FA can dish out with regards to players being allowed to play in the Euro’s/World Cup, and I very, very, very much doubt they’re going to ban the players as then all the “sponsors” will have a strong case for claiming against a watered-down tourney… they would literally be cutting off their own nose to spite their face, and as you say, I doubt UEFA/FIFA are suddenly going to grow a conscience all of a sudden (not when you look where the next world cup is going and where the last world cup went!)

19th April 2021 at 4:37 pm #177792So we have 6 clubs, all of which have moaned and whined that they play too many games, now wanting to play more of them.
Theyβve already binned off replays in the cup competitions to the detriment of all the other clubs, what next? No league cup? They only come into the FA Cup at round 5 or 6, maybe even at the quarter final stage, not content with putting the clubs in the lower leagues on the breadline, they now want to destroy them, they think they can spin a bit of a loss in revenue for a couple of seasons into a power/money grab, could almost have a bit of sympathy for them if they were as dependent on gate money as the lower leagues, but they arenβt. As for Chelsea, they forked out of Β£200m during the pandemic, so they have absolutely no grounds for pleading poverty.
What I donβt get is they sat down and thought it was a good idea, well itβs about as good an idea as JFKs to take the open top limo out for a spin round Dallas. Sure I expect they thought thereβd be some resistance from other clubβs fans, but surely the reaction from their own home based fans must be a bit of a shock to them, then again the English market is a very small percentage of the big teams fan base…..Pagan

19th April 2021 at 4:40 pm #177793Chuckles, there may be a clause somewhere that prohibits teamβs playing in other competitions during the season without the leagues permission, there usually is in grassroots leagues, and their league rules are usually guided by the pro rules…..Pagan

19th April 2021 at 4:56 pm #177794Peggy, that’s exactly the “rule” that’s already been challenged (and defeated) in the European Court system.
Something about the “restriction” of trade and the inability to allow businesses to look for other deals etc… Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a legal eagle, but as long as the Judas 12 show up for business as usual at the start of next season, there is absolutely nothing the various national FA’s can do about it._____________________________

19th April 2021 at 5:03 pm #177796Chuckles, so Notts County could just turn up the the premier league and demand to play?
Still Iβm sure the FA could expel them through the fit and proper owner test….Pagan

19th April 2021 at 5:21 pm #177797Don’t know what to think of all this
First thing I can say is as long as the ESL proposals are anti competition I am anti ESL
Not in principle against change to champions league. We have to remember UEFA earn a shit load from this competition and many of the clubs involved are in the red, year in year out
The CL is worth what it is on global stage because of the elite players that take part. These elite players cost elite money and the clubs that pay that money and create the value for UEFA do deserve a greater slice of the pie I have no argument against that at all.
Hope we see a compromise, disgusting

19th April 2021 at 8:12 pm #177802Chucky…good to see you back. I guess there will be a lot more mileage in this before we know what will really happen,,although at least one UEFA member wants City, Chelsea and R,Madrid thrown out on Friday, always knew the French would win it this year!!! I think you are right in thwe legal assessment , the Ruling bodies will have to go very carefully and temper the comments already made. It will not frighten the new boys at all. In all probability a compromise will be found but I also suspect this is only Round 1.

19th April 2021 at 8:24 pm #177803Steve…your post made me smile….of course you are right, I would be more confident if UEFA/FiFA were Snow White in there management of the game but they set the poor standard where few would trust them to develop the game, this being the case, in steps a consortium who think they can do better.
It is hard for the real fans but it is going to happen, maybe not to day but it will happen in some form. Real fans were not considered in this but have never been anyway and the emphias now will be on global enterprise . Plenty of jobs coming up for Hot dog sellers, Cheer leaders, Marching Bands and maybe an odd Bossa nova!!!_____________________________

19th April 2021 at 8:38 pm #177808I am not sure why but I find myself supporting the Super league, maybe because I always embraced change or maybe it’s because uefa and fifa have been corrupt lining their own pockets for years. As long as the respective clubs can continue to play in their domestic leagues then it’s all fine, Chuck says they cannot legally lose any court contested ruling so thats great too. Pity Bayern refused to join for now anyway. Hopefully PSG will join.

19th April 2021 at 10:05 pm #177815Where are those people who have put forward these proposals? Why haven’t they come out and spoken in the public domain as to how good their idea is?
Why the cloak and dagger?!

19th April 2021 at 10:26 pm #177817Sean all true.
Klopp had to answer questions ahead of tonight’s game. Spoke with honesty.
Pretty much losing the appetite of it all mate.
I’ve had my good fill of glory, but there’s still some things that are and have been amiss. I’m not really enjoying it at the moment in the way I did for the last 3-4 seasons.

20th April 2021 at 5:28 am #177819What was Klopp having a go at Neville for last night? Didn’t understand their disagreement at all. Thought they were on the same page re all this. Neville has spoken so much sense about all this and with so much passion.
The big clubs are rightly being called out for their greed and disregard for the “legacy fans”. Klopp is choosing the wrong target for his anger by having a go at Neville.

20th April 2021 at 5:35 am #177820Perez said last night that they want to be up and running for this Autumn. Pretty much means last night and tonight’s PL games are completely pointless as both Chelsea and Liverpool walk into the ESL regardless.
If this happens, assuming the PL carries on as normal, there’s going to be something missing from the league when CL qualification is no longer a thing. Been some dramatic finales for those last spots over the years and this year looked no different…

20th April 2021 at 6:02 am #177821Spot on Sweddy… this season is now a write-off, nothing matters anymore, unless your Leeds and currently hold what I believe would be the last spot for next seasons Champions League.
