18th April 2021 at 8:41 pm #177669Similar to Project Big Picture I’m sure this will go the same way as it stands.
Nothing wrong with developing the CL into a midweek European League with the cooperation of all parties and without damaging the Domestic Leagues but it can’t come about by declaring UDI and at the expense of Domestic Football.
Lots of water to flow under this Bridge yet imo starting with the proposal which we’ve yet to even see and I wouldn’t be suprised if there is no announcement tonight and we get into a period of negotiation.

18th April 2021 at 8:45 pm #1776709, Negotiate?, no, lay down the law, 6 teams canβt hold 90% of the power, Iβm with Neville on this, give them the Rangers treatment…..Pagan

18th April 2021 at 8:50 pm #177671The Working Man’s game effectively is Game Over. It’s greed and money money money.
There’s no engagement let alone a relationship.

18th April 2021 at 8:51 pm #177672Nine, but would that development be at the expense of coming out of Top Flight?

18th April 2021 at 8:54 pm #177673Pagan, the CL is already in the process of being revamped there’s room for discussion on both sides and as I said we’ve yet to see the proposal.
As Churchill said “Meeting jaw to jaw is better than war.”

18th April 2021 at 8:55 pm #177674Haha, typical call: what would I rather watch: West Brom v Sheff United or Manchester United-Real Madrid?
I think I’d be a tad bit bored and fed up of it all lol.

18th April 2021 at 8:57 pm #177675Nine, that’s one heck of a first hand played by the big clubs though. As I say, it’s more of a demonstration of power than an opening gambit to negotiations.

18th April 2021 at 8:58 pm #177678Nil, I haven’t seen the plan and I think we all need to see that first but from what I’ve read that’s not part of the proposal but the reaction to whatever the proposal is that would be the consequence.

18th April 2021 at 8:59 pm #1776799, this isnβt war, this is pest control, as the Dalek Sec said.
Theyβre obviously not content with taking power bit by bit and want to take it in one grab, either way they take power itβs just how long…..Pagan

18th April 2021 at 9:07 pm #177680That’s true Mikus and I don’t think currently either side is looking to negotiate although we’ve heard nothing official from the 6 Clubs yet only from the other side who understandably have reacted very strongly.
But where we are now I suspect is not where this will all end up. I’m not sure what the baulk of the elite Club’s in Europe seemingly want and where UEFA are with the revamp of the CL are a million miles apart.

18th April 2021 at 9:29 pm #177683The clubs beneath would probably welcome this and would be glad to see the back of those involved. The problem is, one of those happens to be my club!

18th April 2021 at 9:43 pm #177684I’m looking at John Henry’s face on an Article.
It’s a Reflection above all on the Rich Pampering themselves more and more.
It’s the same with my Employers; we no longer have a leg to stand on. No wonder there’s an outcry and a barrage of Socialism.
Forget the Bubble Bursting, the Whole World will Erupt.
I wonder too how much joy and excitement will be gained from this and what the player’s salaries will be per week. Will that be their sole motivation?
What happened to hardwork, endeavor and ultimately, Respect? Nothing no longer Organically achieved and earned through honest graft.

This is why we have competitions such as the FA and the League Cup that have been devalued for years.

19th April 2021 at 1:07 am #177687So it’s official Twelve of Europeβs leading football clubs have today come together to announce they have agreed to establish a new mid-week competition, the Super League, governed by its Founding Clubs.
AC Milan, Arsenal FC, AtlΓ©tico de Madrid, Chelsea FC, FC Barcelona, FC Internazionale Milano, Juventus FC, Liverpool FC, Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid CF and Tottenham Hotspur have all joined as Founding Clubs. It is anticipated that a further three clubs will join ahead of the inaugural season, which is intended to commence as soon as practicable.
Going forward, the Founding Clubs look forward to holding discussions with UEFA and FIFA to work together in partnership to deliver the best outcomes for the new League and for football as a whole.
The formation of the Super League comes at a time when the global pandemic has accelerated the instability in the existing European football economic model. Further, for a number of years, the Founding Clubs have had the objective of improving the quality and intensity of existing European competitions throughout each season, and of creating a format for top clubs and players to compete on a regular basis.

19th April 2021 at 6:41 am #177688Surely the threat of expulsion from domestic leagues and International competition (for the players) is enough to stop this ever getting off the ground. The question is how realistic that threat is. I suspect the PL would find it extremely difficult to carry through the threat and see the biggest 6 sides drop out.

19th April 2021 at 6:49 am #177689Ed, Well they either expel the teams involved or forever become beholding to them.
Get rid of them and give us our game back….Pagan

19th April 2021 at 7:01 am #177690Any sort of banning or punishment will have a reciprocal effect on all leagues, clubs etc. So they need to negotiate as there’s no going back now. I under stand greed is involved but that applies to all, the current beneficiaries of current leagues domestic and Europe are also worried about their loss of income, jobs, and so are your sports pundits and commentators and everyone involved in football as it stands now, greed is a 4 way street.
