17th September 2021 at 10:13 am #185245I also saw that Napoli equalized in extra time then all hell broke loose, objects being thrown around in every direction and opposing fans attacking each other buti think it wasn’t for a long period, not too sure. They don’t show you much when that stuff happens.

17th September 2021 at 10:20 am #185246Apparently it was quite bad and continued afterwards in the streets according to media reports. https://football-italia.net/dozens-arrests-after-clashes-between-napoli-and-leicester-city-fans/

17th September 2021 at 10:22 am #185247Return of the Baby Squad at Leicester, trouble at West Brom v Millwall at the weekend, with the Baggies lot then having more trouble with Mansfield’s lot later on.
In general it seems that hooliganism is on the rise………Pagan

17th September 2021 at 11:12 am #185249I have said it before, I know but the fans more than anything else will ruin football, call it minority if you want but the fact is it is happening at all after all the talk is of concern. Lock them up on an island and throw away the key after they have cleared up the mess they leave

17th September 2021 at 11:30 am #185251Problem is, Double B, if you did that in this day and age, no doubt you would be accused of abusing their basic ‘uman rights!!

Look to those around you

that support the game
with passion and flair._____________________________

17th September 2021 at 6:37 pm #185263Pagan, only just seen your post now. Re the Baby Squad, my perception of the facet would be the now youngsters in their 20s or 30s.
The original guard are older in their 50s and 60s. They’re around, but didn’t expect them to be proactive and be the forefront of violence. Surprising to read.

17th September 2021 at 6:42 pm #185264The youngsters are trying to live up to the reputation of crews of the late 70s and early 80s, it’s the same at Millwall, it’s not the 60 odd year old blokes of the original F Troop, or the original Lunatic Fringe at Derby, the faces change but name remains the same…………Pagan

17th September 2021 at 7:57 pm #185269Pep seemingly falling out with the fans now re his criticism of their low turnout and threatening to step aside. Can see both sides of the argument. Clearly City have more than the 38,000 who turned out but the cost is obviously a factor. Still, the club hardly are desperate for the gate receipts so why don’t they massively reduce ticket prices to get people through the turnstiles?

17th September 2021 at 8:02 pm #185270Or, why don’t the clubs give the players a 10% pay cut and let everyone in fo free………..Pagan

17th September 2021 at 8:16 pm #185271Pagan, I definitely would have thought so. The original ‘Casuals’ in the 80s were already grown men, some family members with wives and children. Even so, it was part of their ‘religion’ and escapism on a Saturday.
What I was alluding to earlier given the society we now live in is that this would now have been put to bed.

17th September 2021 at 8:37 pm #185273Nil, it’s been going on hundreds of years, when villages and towns had “footy” games, like the Ashbourne Shrovetide game, fights were commonplace.
It’s always been there, but as Brian points out, the crowd no longer go to see a match and appreciate the skills involved by both sides, they go to see their team win, and with that comes tribal conflict, and as in a lot of things, the younger fans try to emulate the romanticised top fan legends.
As for casuals, I think they came later than the crews of the 70s and 80s. I’ve never managed to understand the concept of spending £100s of pounds on a coat or sweatshirt then having a fight in it.
On a slightly different tack, but maybe a similar reason for the resurgence of the hooligan, my lads given up reffing as since lockdown, grass roots parents have become far more aggressive and abusive………..Pagan

17th September 2021 at 8:56 pm #185275Definitely Pagan,
Bit like a VW Mark 1 Golf GTi.
I do Remember Nike Air Max 90 in 1990 a £100. 31 Years later, the same price.
They used to wear Top Branded Clothing, that was basically for them an institution and what they spent their money on.
Why would they risk ruining the expensive gear, I don’t know, but the Violence side of it Ultimately was the ‘obligation’.
Very unpleasant to say the least.

17th September 2021 at 9:41 pm #185280Ed…just listen carefully to Peps words in response…a whipped up story, The way the words came out and what he was trying to convey, two different things, I am sure he will brush it aside and so will the City fans if they have any sense, I am still amazed where people get there money from for two matches plus travel per week, I have missed my way somewhere along the line

17th September 2021 at 9:51 pm #185283AnonymousOh yes I remember those days had a bit of reputation myself as it was the in thing then, but I always stopped fights by letting them know this is Marvel Moos you picking a fight with which would make them stop instantly in their tracks
