Regarding Zidane & Real Madrid. It’s funny – Lucky mentioned the point about the Watford boss being sacked just to paper over the faults with the team so that it looked like the board were “taking action”. And the same looks true for Madrid. They only sacked their last manager in March, then somewhat desperately thought that the aura of Zidane would magically lift things, and now it seems they’re back to square one again. Clubs really are just obsessed with the short term aren’t they? If these clubs were businesses in any other area of life, they’d be outrage over the sums of money being thrown around for failure. Money that in large part comes from the fans. Could you imagine the protests if they were bankers? But with football most just shrug their shoulders and laugh at it. Strange…

20th September 2019 at 2:50 pm #47790According to Sport, It would set back the Spanish giants a whopping £70m just to get rid of the former World Cup winner.
Zidane signed a three-and-a-half year deal back in March that would earn him a net payment of £11.5million each season.
With three years remaining on the contract, the payout would be in the region of £35m, a figure that would come at a gross payment of £70m (€80m) to Real.
I am usually pretty good with maths but can someone please help me out as to why paying of the 35m remaining in his contract equates to 70m bill for sacking him?

20th September 2019 at 2:53 pm #47791Its a bs figure, just read 70m is the cost of sacking Zidane and replacing with Jose, which is a stupid way of looking at it, as if you wanted to look at it that way then Zidane’s original contract is actually just the cost of sacking the last manager and shouldnt be accounted for twice.

20th September 2019 at 2:54 pm #47792Lucky, Net pay is what you get in your hand, so from that I’d guess the tax deductions etc run at about 50% so a gross payment of £70m…..Pagan

20th September 2019 at 3:00 pm #47794Pagan, I read the figure is the cost of sacking Zidane and appointing Jose. In terms of tax deductions etc, surely from Reals point of view his contract is worth £X and they pay £X to terminate it, the deductions come after and £X is the total cost to Real, just maybe not the net received by Zidane which would be £X less tax.

20th September 2019 at 3:00 pm #4779523 million a year (before taxes!) to manage a bloody football team…
I’m finding it tougher and tougher to keep any respect for this game. It’s getting ridiculous. The salaries, the VAR, the general nonsense that goes with the game…

20th September 2019 at 3:15 pm #47799Lucky, but with him getting a net payment of £11.5m then the gross payment on that kind of wage going to be approximately double. However the bigger the amount the paper says the more eye catching it is, that’s what sells papers…..Pagan

20th September 2019 at 3:33 pm #47804I think you are right Pagan looking at other reports that claim he takes home 11.5 after tax then it would make sense

20th September 2019 at 3:36 pm #47805Nine, I think the only question mark over Alonso would be whether he has the man management skills to survive at Real, from what I have seen of him throughout his career he probably has a very good tactical understanding of the game, he was a very intelligent player.

20th September 2019 at 3:51 pm #47817Just look at Jose and Conte at chelsea – Why stick around when times get tough when instead you can trigger the trigger happy and get your money for doing bugger all?

20th September 2019 at 10:28 pm #47840Pretty sad and pathetic too when you consider the real world being that there’s humans out there relying on Food Banks. I’m certain to be scheduled in to support in volunteering – puts everything into perspective.
For the record, I don’t have qualms as such on the individuals, but the industry itself. Far too much money, beyond overdrive.

21st September 2019 at 10:11 am #47850I would agree with that Nil, incomes from footballers/Managers etc totally out of proportion with the real world. I have never accepted the argument that they have “short lives” so do thousands of other people. The same would apply to the money people like Lineker get as well, totally obscene for a job Mr Average fan could do better for a lot less. Unfortunately we live in a world with the motto GREED as its emblem. There will always be differences in income whatever walks of life it just appears some are totally unjustified and paying young “stars” so much they can drive round in high performance cars is equally sickening to me. Celeb life has overtaken real talent in most cases
