Thought we played well apart from the final ball. Had a few chances to break through. Sloppy final ball and terrible from vvd for their 2nd goal
Plenty of games to get back into this.
Need to bounce back Sunday.
FairPlay to Napoli.

17th September 2019 at 9:53 pm #47665Bizarre, weโve been a lot better than last season. But you donโt create many chances or fluff them, youโre taking a risk. Bit of a graveyard this place for us.

17th September 2019 at 9:58 pm #47667Nine just seen it. Hand was down
Never mind that. Why did Barkley take it?
Jorginho never misses mate

17th September 2019 at 10:01 pm #47668Have to take that one on the chin unfortunately. A lot better than last year though.
Napoli a Nemesis for us. To be fair, up until the Penalty, we upped our game and we looked comfortable. A once in a blue moon error from Van Dijk shows he’s human, but you need that mental focus for the whole of 90 minutes.
Napoli just carried so much energy about them and knew when to turn on the intensity. They read the game well enough to keep our front 3 at bay.
Good that this monkey is off our back as it’ll drive us to stay unbeaten going forward regardless of competition.

17th September 2019 at 10:04 pm #47670Sean, it was never a pen imo but that’s the way it will go now in UEFA competitions.
But if it having been given why Barkley who had just come on rushes to take it is beyond me he needs a severe talking to by Frank imo if he wasn’t the nominated penalty taker.

17th September 2019 at 10:05 pm #47671Don’t really have issue with the Penalty call. I’d have naturally claimed had the shoe been on the other foot.
Adrian nearly saved it. These Napoli guys are like Bumblebees and relentless.
That’s the first time Van Dijk was out-muscled tonight. Could have done with Keita or somebody from the midfield to drive and support the front 3. That part of the field just lacked the cutting edge.

17th September 2019 at 10:09 pm #47673Ye nine. Jorginho was on the pitch and heโs a brilliant penalty taker
He went easily over nil but no complaints from me. Silly tackle
Mikus made a very good point. When the front 3 not at it, we donโt have anyone from midfield to step up

17th September 2019 at 10:15 pm #47674Nil, we undoubtedly need more from the midfield in such games. We just ended up with Salah and Manรฉ running into trouble and losing the ball. Did worry a bit when I saw that midfield, but obviously we had to rotate a bit after the weekend.

17th September 2019 at 10:23 pm #47675Chelsea lost their way a bit when Mount went off tonight and overall that was probably our worst performance of the season.
Hopefully we’ve got that performance out of our system and Mount might be fit for Sunday given all of the injuries.
Makes getting out of the Group a bigger challenge now and if you get a gift like the penalty you have to take it.

17th September 2019 at 10:38 pm #47677Mikus,
fitness and form has been a slight struggle for us as I had in mind Ox and Naby. Shaqs too hasn’t quite showed that ‘impact sub’ qualities as of last season.
The rest of the lads were fine on the whole and we kept our shape and posed threat, but just lack somebody daring to make those runs and stick their laces on the ball to unleash one.

17th September 2019 at 11:01 pm #47679Agree we still did well tonight Nil and should have scored. But I have just dig deeper into the stats of our midfield tonight. Last season, Milner, Henderson & Fabinho scored a total of 9 goals in all competitions – 5 of which were Milner penalties, 1 of which was a Fabinho header from a corner. So that midfield last season scored a total of 3 goals from open play. Regardless of whether our front 3 normally make up for it, regardless of whether we had to rotate tonight, those stats just ainโt good enough.

18th September 2019 at 6:25 am #47680I had to watch the games on one of those “Sky Conference” things when they show a bit from a game but then interrupt it with a shout of “Tor!” and then jump to that game to see which players are celebrating (or waiting for a VAR check!).
Anyway, the good news for Liverpool is that Genk looked no better than your average pub team, at least defensively. RB Salzburg carved them up through the middle time after time, who themselves didn’t look that good to be honest. Although shout out for Alf Inge Haaland’s son whose hattrick has put him on 17 goals in 9 games for the season!
2-0 not great but by all accounts the performance was better than last year. 99% sure we will qualify.

18th September 2019 at 8:45 am #47681Anonymous“Donโt really have issue with the Penalty call. Iโd have naturally claimed had the shoe been on the other foot.”
That doesn’t make it the right call though, which is wasn’t. I really don’t like the way the rules are going, or that their interpretation of them is going. The player was looking to create a penalty and that is just not the way that this sport needs to go.
I’m not too bothered about the loss on the whole though, as Napoli are an excellent team, especially on home turf. Koulibaly was immense. I actually enjoyed some of the things he did. Maybe I’m just confident that this game didn’t really matter in terms of us qualifying? I’ve seen Liverpool go through just so many CL group stages now. I know better than to assume we’re through but I just feel that the points at Anfield and from the weaker sides in general will be enough. It almost wasnt in both of our Cl winning seasons… but ya.
That save from Adrian though…. just wow. The double save before it too. He’s not perfect but he’s capable and he’s definitely gained some respect from myself after last night.
There is another positive from this. We’ve suffered a loss without dropping PL points. The lads will now know they’ve got to redouble their efforts, heading into the Chelsea match.

18th September 2019 at 9:07 am #47682Kouilbaly is a beast mak. He was excellent last night.
Plenty of games to go. Itโs the toughest game out of the way for us aswell
We did quite well but the penalty changed the game. They are a very good side.

18th September 2019 at 9:45 am #47683Liverpool could have easily won the game last night and it was a classy game by both teams. No idea how/why did Napoli got the pen, myself.
Onto the Chelsea game, what players will Mount and Abraham are going to be! I can imagine Englands midfield of Maddison,Mount and T.Cantwell in the very near future, with TA and HurriKane scoring for fun upfront.

18th September 2019 at 11:41 am #47685Mav, Sancho is IMO behind only Mbappe in terms of the most exciting players under 21. He’s the one player I’d pick at my club given the choice. Considering his age, potential and current ability, he will cost an awful lot of money whenever someone manages to prize him away from Dortmund.
And they will do that. Dortmund generally don’t hang onto their stars for too long and are not averse to selling when they feel the price is right. As crazy as it sounds, if someone gets him for ยฃ100mil,they’ve got a bargain.

18th September 2019 at 11:44 am #47686Barcelona were very lucky last night, if Dortmund scored a couple it would not of been unwarranted. Every time I see Sancho he plays very well.
Both pens in the two English games should not of been awarded. The Chelsea one, well I’m guessing all of us are confused about the handball rule. The Liverpool one the guy dived. He instigated the contact and threw himself to the floor. This type of dive seems to always be successful because technically there is contact, doesn’t seem to matter who made the movement. It’s still cheating in my eyes and one I see way too much these days.

18th September 2019 at 12:10 pm #47687And yet Sancho was on Cityโs books just 2 years ago. And Foden again seems to be struggling to get a game. It may seem ok for City in the short term to be able to cast aside these young players for more established players, but these youngsters were/are the future of the club. What is the point of investing so much in the City academy? And does all this reflect well on Pep? Or will City be happy to buy these players back later at exorbitant rates? Have they learned nothing from FFP?
