30th June 2024 at 7:46 pm #215033Look so much better with Palmer on the pitch… genuinely think he needs to start over Foden, and I think Engerland looked better when Bellingham stopped going all over the place in a free role.

30th June 2024 at 8:07 pm #215034Yeah, agree with that Alfie; it was push coming to shove. He does need inventory and shake things up.

30th June 2024 at 9:01 pm #215036It is embarrassing Sean. And I think Southgate basically being light hearted about it in the post match interview with a kind of βOh God, what are we like?β vibe is even more embarrassing.

30th June 2024 at 9:46 pm #215037The rare times I get to watch a live game, I’m quite happy and chilled that I got to see goals π Been a good game tonight Spain-Georgia.

30th June 2024 at 9:53 pm #215039Sean, you are completely right mate. I try not to allow myself to get too wound up over England and Southgate; they can’t even find an England shirt at times when they are passing the ball; embarrassing.
We were rescued mate by get-out-of-jail-cards.
You’d think deep down, we’ll be founded out and unstuck in the latter rounds. Hard to try and keep faith.

1st July 2024 at 9:35 am #215041Just change it. Walker has been poor. So surprised as he is a proper world class full back but hes 33 now.
Saka out and palmer in. Make a few changes. Southgate says to many changes upset the consistency of the team but ffs they are absolutely terrible so something has to changed.
Foden isolated out left. Its just shite. You would have more respect for him if he had the balls to change it
England are really struggling againest teams they should be trashing
You then have players moaning about players pundits etc. admit you have been shite and stop with the excuses

1st July 2024 at 10:24 am #215042I’ll try and look at this from a different angle now I’ve had a bit of time to reflect π Maybe a hidden gem we have in leaving it till the last minute or dying seconds! Wow, happy we’re through.
Why don’t Southgate ever show some ooomph? Look at the late Bobby Robson and Terry Venables back in the day. Get the nation together. The players are there, but we need the right 11 selected to start the game and be more proactive in changing it bringing subs on more earlier.
This should be used as a springboard for Switzerland.

1st July 2024 at 1:43 pm #215043Walker has never been that good a player technically but he has enormous amount of pace. Even at 33 he is still one of fastest around.
With such pace you can afford to take more risks with other players, push much higher up etc. This is why Pep still plays him, it’s not because of his playmaker ability! But Southgate doesn’t do that, and against lesser team like England has faced there’s no need to have such a conservative player at right back. Would have been far better off playing Trent at FB or even Trippier and play someone else at LB.
The Swiss have impressed me. They along with Austria have looked tactially good and I thjnk England might be on their way home. The signs of a good manager is making the team better than the sum of its parts which both those team have done, quite the opposite to Southgate and England.

1st July 2024 at 2:18 pm #215044Spot on 3ps, completely agree with that particular ability of Walker that he is reliable tracking back because of his speed. He also rarely lets anybody get past him. Reminds me to a degree of Rob Jones mid 90s before his injuries.
The only other guy I would bank on is Kieran Trippier, but he is at the point of fading out; same age as Walker, 33.
What bugs me the most is that Southgate despite all these international friendlies over the months has yet to forge a regular settled 11 established. Stones at CB, I’m not sure about. Guehi and Konsa could work together as Dunk is also getting on and Shaw seems to be struggling because of his history of injuries.
Southgate should have had all this sussed and mapped out knowing how many good quality players of English that lacks in our league. Saka and Gordon should definitely be playing because of the pace they offer and we need that, plus their ability to run at the opposition. Otherwise it’s the same old same old pedestrian, ball passed sideways, and then just launched in the air, long-ball.

1st July 2024 at 9:17 pm #215046Sign of the times Mav, teams play conservative possesion football with lessened risk these days. You could say it started with Pep but you even have Burnely doing it now! And I think most intentional teams also. Bring back the heavy metal football from only a few years ago! Think only Austria have played anywhere near that sort of style.
Was going to post a topic on this forum about how football style has evolved (devolved?) into this, might do when the football has finished or we’ve all switched off in boredom!
