When will the country realise that just because we have some world class players in the team it doesn’t mean the overall team will be world class. We lack togetherness, we still fall into the trap of playing the best XI vs the best team and we lack a charismatic manager to instill a positivity, fight and passion. (I actually can’t believe Southgate is still manager). That said I’ve always thought the reasons for England’s continual failures are cultural. I think we’re a very individualistic culture that puts the emphasis on praising the individual and putting them on pedestals rather than the collective. England failing at tournaments is almost as guaranteed as night following day.

20th June 2024 at 6:35 pm #214934If i was Southgate, i would have used Trent as a left back, because of his overalping and good passing range. and he can corss perfectly. this thing of him introudcing Gallagher is useless.

20th June 2024 at 9:03 pm #214935Sean, I thought the team was alright in the first half, we just lacked a midfield. It’s not Trent’s fault, he is not a midfielder but Southgate insists on playing him. Second half everyone was awful.
Yeah, Kane initially at fault but a decent midfield would have closed the shot down as well.
Soon as we go one up we sit back. It’s the same old same old. I think he played the same team as they got criticised and he wanted to prove a point. He needs to do something different in the final game but he can’t go for Mainoo as Gallagher has been picked over him twice now. Gallagher has lots of energy but not the same technique. Cannot take the ball on the half turn etc.
We went with no fit left back, we decided not to pick a CM in midfield. We then have no overlapping left fullback and a left winger who isn’t really a winger but likes to link play and play others in. No one is near him. Mainoo in midfield would allow more of those little one twos and neat interplay.
I think we will go through, but we really need to get going soon or it will be an early flight home.

20th June 2024 at 10:20 pm #214937Looks like fans are tribal when it comes to analysing England. The United guys will tell you Mainoo is the best, Liverpiol guys will defend Trent, Arsenal guys d defend Rice. While City guys would defend Foden. But the biggest problem is England’s no 10 which happens to be Bellingham is not creative enough to give killer passes. Granted he scores goals, but he is not creative. That should chang the formation to 4-3-3 and let Foden tack in and have the freedom with Bellingham as the box to box midfielder. Then you can get best out of many players.

21st June 2024 at 8:15 am #214939Don’t think it helps balance the side when you have 3 right backs in the side with Walker, Trippier & TAA… no idea when Shaw will be back, that will help for sure, and I think Blondie has to start over TAA in midfield… and I’d be seriously considering starting Palmer too, probably for Foden who’s been the least productive of the front 3…

21st June 2024 at 8:17 am #214940Or even go 4-2-3-1 with Bells playing along side Rice (agree with what the Youngster says about Bells) and have all of Foden, Palmer & Saka playing behind Kane.

21st June 2024 at 9:08 am #214941Young blue, im a liverpool fan and dont see the sense of playing taa. Its not working.
Southgate should be getting more from this team. Why bring Gordon and palmer and not play them? Kane is dropping deep but has no runners off him.foden is not going to get in behind. Rice is to deep.
Its awful to watch with such talent available. The english media are an absolute disgrace the way they slaughter their players. Focus on kane now. Ridiculous

21st June 2024 at 9:13 am #214942Its been a great euros and a huge plus had been the standard of refreeing. Also, they are helped by players not diving about near as much as usual. Thought italy and spain were bad for play acting last bight though
Os that new offside technology 100% accurate? If so then it’s absolutely brilliant as decisions made so quickly. I know they were using it in the cl last season and a no brainer in the pl.

21st June 2024 at 10:57 am #214943It’s a really unbalanced squad. Six wingers and one left back who isn’t even fit, and is unlikely to be able to play a few games in a short space of time even if he does recover as he has been out for so long.
Seems Bowen and Eze are first choice subs on the wings, so can’t see Palmer or Gordon starting, but you never know.
Sean – I think it’s as accurate as it will ever be. The hardest thing is actually finding the right tv frame to review as they are so inaccurate for when the pass is made, but that is the same as for all review systems anyway.

21st June 2024 at 4:26 pm #214944Young Blue, that couldn’t be further from the truth. I am a massive Phil Foden fan and Cole Palmer. If truth be told (no fault as such of his own), but I don’t like the hype of Trent and this business with him experimented in Midfield. I’m not sure if he’s serving a’ purpose and whether the collective midfield is the right selection in the first place.
I will congratulate and get behind the team regardless of their club crest.
I see people wound up yesterday from various quarters but I’m not sure exactly if these fans are holding onto a belief that we are really better than we think we are.
Also, it was more a case of updates I was receiving being in work. For me personally, that’s probably a more suited option than getting building myself up and then splashed with boredom within 10 minutes.
I am holding on to patriotism and 1990 and 96. Those players and those times will never return. I never liked the Golden Generation, in fact I loathed it; even the WAG culture and all the rest of the baggage.
Other teams and the tournament itself has been enjoyable when I do get the time free and am able to switch off from everything else and wind down properly.

21st June 2024 at 4:31 pm #214947Spot on Mikus re your post y’day.
We’re not good as some people believe us to be.
We’ll probably have done enough to finish the group as Top.

21st June 2024 at 7:04 pm #214948England have some of the best players in Europe, possibly the best squad overall. However it doesn’t matter who plays when the coach hasn’t got a clue how to set thr team up to successfully press, to keep a tempo up, to create overloads and focuses etc. He’s probably the most tactically inept manager Egland has ever had, whilst in charge of one of the most talented.
Look beyond individual performances and ask what is happening on the training pitch.
They’ll get through mind without exciting anyone and then shit themselves once a team with quality has a go at them.

21st June 2024 at 10:02 pm #214949First real controversial decision involves taylor and atwell. Atwell has always been a joke. Hes an absolute clown of an official and takes so long for decisions on var
Refreeing has been exceptional and no comparison to the orher refs and the engkish ones. I even think Oliver has gone to shite aswell

21st June 2024 at 10:02 pm #214950Ironically, in the one competition where VAR seems to be working (especially for offsides) the game the English are in charge of VAR ends up with a shambles.

22nd June 2024 at 7:57 am #214952Ye alfie, lol.
Officiating has been very good in my opinion but Taylor booked someone for minimal contact aswell
Refs are not falling for much simulation and letting the games flow but huge controversy last night

22nd June 2024 at 9:30 am #214953Yeah guys, I do feel really encouraged and the way VAR has been managed has been a breath of fresh air and has cheered me up. There’s a lady on ITV that explains it and it’s concise and clear.

22nd June 2024 at 9:32 am #214954Chesney (ex Arsenal Keeper) was right only receiving a yellow even though it was unfortunate in him bringing down the player whilst it was a clear goalscoring opportunity.
