Newbalance? me? No club v country row here Sir. Sorry ive been watching an England team that cant pull up their shorts at tournaments. Why is this England team any different from the previous golden generations?
Here’s the way I see it, England are pants to watch and have been for years. I was cheering on Iceland in the last tournament to knock England out. we were dire… Awful… shockingly bad and it was not enjoyable to watch us struggle. It was like watching a team of Bakayokos in action… He’s a lad who has blagged his big money move to CFC and cant pass, tackle, shoot, or run.
I’ll change my mind about “England” when they actually play to the potential we all claim they at. Wiltshire is hailed as a genius yet cant assist more than a few goals in a season of 38 games, his scoring record is atrocious. Lallana has never really been international class. cant stay fit, why waste a squad place on players who are not up to the job. I made a case for Wiltshire earlier in the season, but then the two qualifiers he is picked for he pulls out injured. There is a step up in class from league to international football and his body isn’t up to it… Remember Darren Anderson? brilliant player but injured and therefore unreliable. Kiron Dyer? Andy Carrol is another one… So too, imo, is Henderson. This isn’t about club v country chap, its about players capable of doing a job.
Brilliant that RLC is in there, he’s been a massive cog in Palaces survival and proven Conte and CFC board wrong about his loan. I would have dipped into the England youth sides… That is if you’re truly thinking about playing without fear and building something for the future. Gary Cahill is in there and he’s had a shocker this year. I would certainly have included Shelvy in the provisional squad… not good enough according to Southgate just now.. he has more in his locker than Dier. They guy is a bully who reminds me of Thomas Graverson, physically imposing and can spray a pass, another reason why Newcastle have ground out their league position. If you wanted an impact player, go Crouch… 1-2 for England when he played and will offer something over someone like Danny Welbeck who is another injury wreck waiting to happen. Lets have a sportsman bet he wont make the finals through injury? Why isn’t Fulham’s Sessgnon in this squad? A player who has torn up the championship, looks like a real top pro in the making… brainless he’s not included.
In 2014, Henderson/ Lallana/ Young/ Barkley/ Wiltshire/ Lampard/ Gerrard made up the midfield. We were God awful then.
In 2016, Henderson/ Lallana/ Wiltshire/ Milner/ Dier/ Barkley made up the midfield. Guess what? we were god awful then as well….
So… Again, we have youth and a blend of the wrong senior pros. Those chaps in the middle of the park are shuttle runners who break up play and give easy balls. They’ve failed in the last two major tournaments. If they break down we’ll have little cover and will see us overrun.
Ignore the fluff PR around the release of this side, the same players are cast into similar roles, are you really expecting any different new balance?
Peace – end transmission.

Hard to disagree with any of that reasoning mate. I feel that type of disappointment too for years. Sometimes I’m kidding myself, but every tournament, I wipe the slate clean and hope for the best.
Even with Southgate, we’re not the most interesting and entertaining of teams. When we do find our mojo, it’s in fits and spurts, and yes you’re right, a player then suffers an injury set-back.
So true on Sess of Fulham. Southgate has had ample time to scout individual players and practice matches. He should be able to formulate a blend that’s going to gel and pull out the stops.
The fact of the matter is that we don’t have any real international class players like you say, albeit Kane.
My hope though is from sheer guts and determination to at least get through the Group stages, then take each match after as they come along.

17th May 2018 at 7:55 pm #21794Well Loftus Cheek has made the England squad. and that reflects the season he has had under Roy Hudgson. also its a message to Chelsea that he is ready to be in the first team. i will be disappointed if he isnโt given a proper chance to show what he can do next season.

18th May 2018 at 9:40 am #21812AnonymousChelseaman… Im hoping RLC is one of those rare finds.. ie – he is a player totally at ease on the international stage, it just becomes a question of his application at club level that will determine how far he’ll go.
new balance… One of the joys of being a football fan is the perennial underachievement of a national team. Feel for Linchenstein supporters. ๐
I just hope that the weight of the nation doesn’t get put onto the players shoulders this tournament and they’re given a free hand to experiment… But I think most importantly of all, learn to love and enjoy the big stage and playing with heart and energy and a smile… No pressure this tournament. There are a couple of players tainted by previous ones. Livermore, Lallana, Henderson and Deir for me. not sure Henderson and deer work well together despite their form individually for club. If they have shockers, I’d move them on for the next tournament and bring in younger legs. Anyhow, once this cup final is done and dusted with all eyes turning to the cup with a world on the top of it.
Who wont have that boyish feeling of national pride before the first game, only to have those hopes smashed after watching the three lions first 45 minutes in the tournament.

18th May 2018 at 10:07 am #21813They’ll usually try and look for a scapegoat 442. That’s always been the norm with our national team lol ๐

20th May 2018 at 9:02 pm #21966442, would agree but it comes back to my earlier post..We just do not have a quality midfield or playmaker or anyone to give a spark of something going to happen, in short we are pedestrian at the best and this shows from the defence minded selection but to be honest I just could not name an England squad capable of reaching the semi”s I am not convinced about the Managemet either but accept Southgate must be given a chance. I could accept it more if somebody said, we are building a squad for WC next time, use this for experience, OK but I guess a few other countries will be thinking this way as well

Yeah, Iโd say exactly the same about building. But… what can we do. Weโve heard the same about the likes of Walcott et all who took places on planes for experience. Heโs not even an England player anymore.
I guess the good thing about Southgate is that he wants to change it up. Has worked with youth at different levels in the England set up and has favoured them… thinking rlc here. Hope it continues and he stays on for the euros as he is developing a pool of talent.
Iโd have shoved more of the under 21โs in the side. Iโd have been more happy with that.. but fingers crossed we get out of the group and can enjoy a couple more games after that.
A lot was made of the dominant Spain side thatโs sadly no more. All grew up together after winning tournaments through different age groups… letโs hope our under21โs can go on and do the same
