Chucks, sometimes, it’s difficult mate for a Ref to pick up every detail of an incident. If for instance, 2 or 3 are on a player, one or two of them may cause infringement.
It’s very rare over the course of 90 minutes for the course of events to be absolutely streak free whichever the area of the pitch.
Of course, as far as the Penalty area goes, there’s going to be a gleam of spot-light.
If we have goal-line tech, then VAR could monitor and handle this positively and efficiently and simply don’t award or overturn a decision if wrongly a Penalty Kick is directed.
I would hedge a bet that even the most prolific and persistent offenders will soon get tired and just back off.

22nd January 2019 at 1:16 pm #31903“β¦β¦..As I said earlier hand out retrospective bans and it will all but disappear from the game within months.”
Nine, but where to draw the line? Sure we all accept that going down as if shot by a sniper is worth a retrospective ban, heck even the FA do! But take Salah’s recent situations, the Palace one I say was a deliberate attempt to con the ref albeit there was contact, but the Brighton was genuine although I’ve seen many disagree. These more debatable ones will surely cause a lot of problems, with counter claims by players and teams etc.
But what about feigning injury? Surely that is worthy? And the “dark arts”? Where do we stop banning players? Will there be anyone left to play?

22nd January 2019 at 1:48 pm #31905threeps, I don’t think we can solve all of the problems in the game in one hit but specifically on diving there is in place a review panel for diving they need to get a bit more active imo.
Currently the rules allow for a retrospective two game ban. That panel needs to be become more proactive the prospective dives need to be reviewed by the panel and those found guilty of diving after those retrospective reviews should receive a 2 match ban if they are found guilty again of diving on top of that I would add another game game ban so from 2 to 3 and from 3 to 4 games.
In 6 months I suspect diving wouldn’t be a problem in the PL.But if the panel continue to sit on their hands this problem will never go away.

22nd January 2019 at 3:33 pm #31923I think you’re all talking shite ??? even with slow motion it’s not always possible to state that was a dive. Who’s to say how much contact constitutes a foul? It depends on the speed the attacking player is moving, his balance ie does have none, one or two feet on the ground at point of contact? The only ones that are completely fair to penalise are those where you can categorically see there was no contact at all, and there aren’t too many of them. Even Salahs on Saturday, we can all agree there was some contact both by Sakho”s hand and his leg. Handing out bans without definitive proof is wrong, as it is still down to somebody’s subjective opinion. But wait, we already have that…the referee!

22nd January 2019 at 3:37 pm #31924One of the worst/best/ funniest divers used to be Didi Hamman. He used to shield the ball from the opposition and as soon as the player came up close, Didi fell to the floor like he’d been shot. We never got any penalties through this as he was never in the opposition box! But the refs always bought it. It was a standing joke at Anfield at the time.

25th January 2019 at 8:33 pm #32097AnonymousLacazette has just shown a big issue with VAR.
Goes down holding his chin/neck as he knows there is VAR. Complete fabrication but will get away with it as there was minor contact, but could have earned a penalty.

30th January 2019 at 8:05 am #32425“Look, we all know it goes on, players from all clubs do go down far too easily these days and make the refs jobs a lot harder than they need to be. And it doesn’t help with ex-pros up in the box commenting that players are entitled to go down when they fell contact. I’m not going to sit here and say my players don’t that and I’m certainly not going to sit here and say I instruct by players to do exactly that. Stimulation, the proper word for it all I suppose, is now a stain on the game and it would be unfair on my club, my players, and our fans, if we were the first club to start playing the game honestly as we’re probably going to drop more points than gain as we would be the only ones doing so. The managers, the refs, the players, even the pundits, they all need to come together and resolve to sort out this issue together. That’s the only way this stain on the game is going to be removed, and I think everybody wants that. I know I do.”
Guess which manager said that?

30th January 2019 at 8:54 am #32429Once again the only way to sort it out is retrospective bans once that happens it will dwindle to nothing within 6 months. But if players keep on getting away with it with only the fear of a yellow card it will never go away.

30th January 2019 at 9:09 am #32430Chicken and the Egg cyber chum… and retrospective bans will only ever work when this is a “black and white” idea of “how much contact is a foul/penalty”…
Lingard last night did another one, tug on his shirt, fell over like his legs were broken, is that a peno for the shirt tug or a yellow for exaggeration?

30th January 2019 at 9:26 am #32431I wonder if we could do both? Get the peno for the tug but give a yellow for being a prat about it? That could be an interesting option… π

30th January 2019 at 9:35 am #32432Nine if you retro ban every player that us fans would probably agree has cheated you’d never have any players left! They already retro ban blatant dives and we see less of those now, but the clever ones aren’t banned and in fact are sometimes praised in the media as “being clever”
Think it’s time to accept cheating is part of the game and despite the fact every team does it we’ll all use it to beat each other with in the tribalistic manner we are accustomed to. The situation has gone to far to be fixed in my eyes.

30th January 2019 at 9:54 am #32433Chucky if its a pen for tugging it’s a pen for tugging despite any exaggeration
threeps, whilst I agree with your comment on tribalism in your last para I can’t agree we just accept cheating.
There is a clear mechanism in place to manage this and its not being utilised how many players have been banned for diving since this mechanism was introduced.
I think we have to discriminate between exaggeration on contact and exaggeration without contact.
It’s now become a pointless discussion we all have players who dive and we either implement what’s in place or accept cheating which I think would be very sad.

30th January 2019 at 10:04 am #32436I think we have to discriminate between exaggeration on contact and exaggeration without contact.
Have to disagree with that cyber chum, having played a lot of rugby over the years, it makes me larff when players go down with a little tug… especially with zero attempt to play the ball. I swear blind the majority of players aren’t even trying to score a goal these days, they get in the box and automatically look for the easiest way to win a peno… actually scoring a goal is 2nd choice…

30th January 2019 at 10:07 am #32437Chucky if its a pen for tugging itβs a pen for tugging despite any exaggeration
And this is exactly why they do it, if the gimps know they’ll never be booked for exaggerating, then every single contact, regardless of how little it is, will result in a pathetic attempt to con the ref… their broken backs and amputated legs are soon forgotten when the ref says play on… or soon forgotten when they jumped up to celebrate winning a peno (is their a more annoying sight in football than players celebrating winning a peno??)

31st January 2019 at 8:28 pm #32631Spot on Chucks, you’d try to hide an injury in Rugby or rugby league. I can’t stand the playacting, rolling over 3 or 4 times & screaming like you’ve got your leg smashed in half with a sledge hammer because a defender bumped your shin against his. Biggest blight on the game IMO.

Have I missed something here? How do you exaggerate the effects of no contact, itβs either exaggeration or a dive…..Pagan
