At the end of the day, nobody is going to find a solution that will keep all 60 odd million Brit’s happy…

14th December 2021 at 8:56 am #191314Yeah, well done Boris for injecting mass hysteria panic once again at Christmas Time. Lock everything down in the New Year.

14th December 2021 at 9:02 am #191315Don’t see the issue with vaccine certs. We have to use them over
Totally understand some might have legitimate reasons not to get it
They need more time to study this variant but when does this stop? We have to learn to live with it
I agree nil. Hospital numbers are down over big time but ee still went into a partial lockdown

14th December 2021 at 9:07 am #191319No Sean I think we can expect announcement from Boris that day and if restrictions are to be put in place that’s when we will know imo

14th December 2021 at 9:09 am #191320Re the vaccine certificates Sean, what I don’t get bud is that those who are vaccinated can still spread so for me it’s about proving negative rather than vaccinated, right?

14th December 2021 at 9:17 am #191321Nepolean… apart from bloody cold, things aren’t toooo bad here… the Finn’s are pretty sensible with things, everybody is getting jabbed as fast as they can (I get my thrid one Sunday)… we have a sort of partial lockdown (short hours for pubs/resturants type of thing) and everybody (at least the vast majority) are wearing masks etc… all work from home when possible… don’t socialize too much (they cancelled our Christmas party last Friday!)… the overtall numbers were pretty low but I think they’re tyring to stay ahead of the OMICON version before it gets to firm a grip… with regards to actual cases over the last two years it hasn’t been as bad as many other countries, mainly in the larger cities… the rest of Finland it pretty spread out so the lack of population density has certainly helped slow down the spread.
Hasn’t been fun, as I’m sure it isn’t fun for anybody/country, but overall it hasn’t been as bad as it could have been I reckon.

14th December 2021 at 9:28 am #191322I think it’ll be the inevitable Lucky.
Bad handling and just irresponsible behaviour from quarters; Filling Nightlclubs, Supermarkers, allowing people through our Borders. There should be regular tests taken and anybody showing positive must isolate.
This is just one big mess.

14th December 2021 at 9:40 am #191323That’s pretty much how I feel in Wales banjo, everyone I know jabbed, hospitals coping and everyone I know who does catch it just experiencing mild cold thankfully.

Totally agree with that nil

14th December 2021 at 9:44 am #191325I don’t even know anybody who’s caught it, thankfully… a couple of “friend of a friend” type things but that’s about it…

14th December 2021 at 9:58 am #191327In a nutshell, the reason we have lockdowns is to prevent our hospitals becoming overrun. Having the vaccine reduces your chance of becoming hospitalised significantly and even though it does not reduce your risk of infection it will reduce your ability to spread it due to lower viral load and you are also unlikely to be filling an ITU bed.

14th December 2021 at 10:13 am #191328Personally I think we lifted restrictions too quickly in the first place.
The strategy on Covid is primarily being driven by Scientists which would be the same whoever was in power Labour will support the Government’s Plan B strategy this week which is the right thing for them to do imo.
No country has got this thing licked they’ve all made mistakes which demonstrates how hard it has heen to manage Covid.

14th December 2021 at 10:16 am #191329Sure Harry, I think it is for those reasons why everyone I know has taken the vaccines.
But the below article states this
“Individuals who have had two vaccine doses can be just as infectious as those who have not been jabbed.”

14th December 2021 at 10:23 am #191331The vaccinations clearly help against the spread of virus to a degree, but to a much greater degree prevent severe symptoms. I think negative tests are the safest bet in terms if dictating who can participate in social activities in numbers.

14th December 2021 at 10:27 am #191333“Unvaccinated people cannot rely on those around them being jabbed to remove their risk of getting infected, they warn.”
“Vaccines do an excellent job of preventing serious Covid illness and deaths, but are less good at stopping infections”
Ultimately as someone thrice jabbed, I have to respect the rights of those who don’t want to get vaccinated and if they are not positive for covid they should not suffer a reduction in their freedoms that vaccinated people for not also suffer.

14th December 2021 at 10:29 am #191334As for lockdowns, if as country we are willing and able to compensate lost earnings for those who can’t work from home and the data is clear that the NHS can’t cope I don’t see who would argue against it.

14th December 2021 at 10:36 am #191336I don’t agree with them being mandated, but there isn’t a single credible argument for not getting it unless you have been specifically told by a trusted (by you) medical professional not to get it. So if they decide to ban unvaccinated from public transport, restaurants, night clubs, football matches then so be it. It’s a public insurance policy that some people are making the free choice not to buy into. Given we are still living in the pandemic, and not post pandemic, there has to be consequences for that.
