I stuffed the years up before – should read as follows:
The only plan they can have is wait, wait, wait. When it is safe to get back into training do so. When they are fit and ready to play do so. When it is safe for supporters to go back and watch matches, do so. This is like a war, a world war. Did they play football in war torn countries between 1939 and 1945 or 1914 and 1919? This is a worldwide war. Fβk the football.
Anyway chatting about the football unknown appears to be the way to go so good luck with that. I gather even the players arn’t real keen. Talking football though I was appalled at the abuse Ian Wright received from some youngish moron on Instagram. So very sad.

12th May 2020 at 2:21 pm #11215067, if you’re a celebrity like Ian Wright you’re asking for trouble by going on to Instagram etc. Unmanaged Social media is inhabited by numerous morons unfortunately!

12th May 2020 at 2:29 pm #112151Fair comments from Rose??????
Rose slams football restart plans: ‘I don’t give a f*** about morale’
Rose, who is on loan at Newcastle from Spurs, told an Instagram Live video: βGovernment is saying βbring football backβ because it is going to boost the nationβs morale. I donβt give a f*** about the nationβs morale, bro, peopleβs lives are at risk.
βFootball shouldnβt even be spoke about coming back until the numbers [infected or dying] have dropped massively. Itβs b*******.β

12th May 2020 at 2:38 pm #112152416 deaths today. Sad news and not a chance of any sport returning with deaths at that level.

12th May 2020 at 2:47 pm #112154100% correct Rose. If he comes in contact with one player that reads positive and gets it then we don’t know his personal situation. He may have family members with underlying health issues. Who knows, he may even have some himself. What about these kids that have died from some related covid disease that made their organs swell up. None of those players are desperate to get back to work for financial reasons surely. If the game goes belly up financially then so be it. Life is way more important than lining some greedy bastard’s pockets. The UK is not even close to being safe nor is the US but all Trump is worried about is the economy he reckons he built and winning the upcoming election. Watch their covid-19 cases explode out of control again over the next few weeks. Even without reopening they have been accruing 25,000 plus new cases every day. Trump is a lunatic. At least Boris knows the dangers first hand and is lucky to be alive. He may be a tad more cautious.

12th May 2020 at 3:30 pm #112157Nine, just a point of information – deaths reported on a day do not mean deaths actually occurred on that day – it is a cumulative figure for deaths as they get reported over the last few weeks or so. Please see the third bar chart down for actual daily deaths:

12th May 2020 at 4:10 pm #112158I am coming to a different view, with all the scramble to do something that cannot be done, i.e. start football with crowds again, it would also appear to me that there is a lot of resistance to closed pitch playing, rightly so in my opinion. SO, what are we left with? many players do not want it and importantly cannot be made to play. I would support them on this stance
The first issue would be, do we finish the last season? I do not see a problem with that but we are months away not weeks. Finish the season, take a break and start a new season, I still see that as January, no doubt it will be pushed through before then with all the risks that applies and we pay the price later
There is an unseemly rush with football hierarchy , I know they want there pound of flesh, but they must understand the gravity of what we are talking about and I honestly do not think they do or care. We have to rely on the Govt not to cave in to the demands. Sean, I have never been a lover of politicians but they have a situation, not of there making, or indeed, any Govt. you can only take the best shots you can give on advice, everyone will get some part wrong and we all strive for the right solution. We cannot afford or is it desirable to have divisions at this time
keep it simple, clear and understandable unfortunately you will always get people like the latest drunks taking up A&E time something we can ill afford_____________________________

12th May 2020 at 6:38 pm #112161“Another 627 people who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the UK have died, taking the total to 32,692.
The latest daily figure released by the Department of Health is for coronavirus-related fatalities in hospitals, care homes and the community, reported in a 24-hour period up to 5pm on Monday.” Sky News.
Even worse than in my original post it doesn’t matter how you cut it I don’t think we’re in a position to bring back any Sport at the level of deaths reported above.

12th May 2020 at 6:53 pm #112164“Germanyβs daily coronavirus cases nearly TRIPLE – nation to bring back tougher lockdown
CORONAVIRUS cases in Germany have almost trebled in the past 24 hours sparking fears of a second wave of COVID-19 infections.Angela Merkel to ‘rethink easing restrictions’ says expert
Health authorities in Germany have reported more than 900 new cases of the deadly coronavirus less than a week after lockdown restrictions were relaxed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The Koch Institute has reported 933 new COVID-19 infections on Tuesday β an increase from just 357 on Monday.
Germany second wave worry as towns bring BACK coronavirus lockdown
According to the Institute the infection rate β the so-called βRβ rate – has been above one for the past three days. The rate means on average one person will potentially transmit the virus to one other individual.
The Institute for public health estimated the βRβ rate was at 1.07 on Monday and 1.13 on Sunday.” Daily Express 12/05

12th May 2020 at 8:17 pm #112165We can beat around the bush talking about what should happen with footy and sport in general, but weβre a million miles from returning to normality, deaths in the UK are about 50k above the expected average, we need either a cure or a vaccine, we have no cure at the moment, we may never get a vaccine, SARS was a coronavirus, that was 13-14 years ago and thereβs still no vaccine for it, so that only leaves the one option, controlled exposure to the virus with the hope it brings in herd immunity….Pagan

12th May 2020 at 8:44 pm #112166Nine that is just typical british press sensationalism. A small handful of towns have reintroduced a degree of lockdown but certainly not Germany as a whole. My city, the largest in the most populous state, has all the shops now open and even the gyms reopened this week.
The rate has been around 1.07 as you stated but it’s when it gets to 1.2 or 1.3 for 3 days or so then it could be a problem.
Papers need to sell. Writing that germany which is one of the most successful countries fighting corona is now apparently failing is probably a story some people want to read. But its BS. Dont believe everything you read.

12th May 2020 at 9:34 pm #112168Tackling will be banned, pitches disinfected and players restricted to groups of five when England’s Premier League football clubs start a first phase of team training – which it is hoped will begin on Monday,
Official protocols sent to players and managers and obtained by the BBC reveal that social distancing must be “strictly observed”.
Corner-flags, balls, cones, goalposts and even playing surfaces will also be disinfected after each training session, which will be restricted to 75 minutes.
Ongoing surveillance measures included in further guidance include twice-weekly testing, and a daily pre-training questionnaire and temperature check.
Under a section titled “health screening”, players are also told a central register of Covid-19 test results (subject to their consent and Professional Footballers’ Association agreement) will need to be maintained.
Recommended “control measures” include “meticulous personal hygiene and use of PPE personal protective equipment, no congregation in communal areas, including but not limited to medical rooms and gym areas”.
Club officials met this week to continue talks on “Project Restart”, with the English top flight aiming to resume fixtures on 12 June.

13th May 2020 at 6:36 am #112169“so that only leaves the one option, controlled exposure to the virus with the hope it brings in herd immunity.”
A drastic move and where does that leave the vulnerable? They need to stay locked away from danger until it has totally run its course and burnt out and even then there is no guarantee it is not going to be imported from elsewhere once they open the borders internationally. My old man is locked away in a nursing home and I haven’t been allowed to visit him face to face for near on 2 months. This may continue on for ever more the way this is going. It appears that exposure to the disease for someone very old with underlying illnesses is as good as a death sentence and apparently not a very pleasant way to go either.

13th May 2020 at 6:39 am #112170All these restrictions on the training pitch. What are the restrictions on the pitch when two teams compete once fixtures recommence?
Smacks of desperation. It won’t happen unless it is the real deal. Blood and guts football as we know it or nothing at all.

13th May 2020 at 7:06 am #11217167, controlled exposure is what weβre currently practising, the restrictions on everyday life will ebb and flow to keep the infection rate at a manageable level until the vast majority of the population have developed immunity…….Pagan

13th May 2020 at 7:22 am #112172From what I read there are now only 3 options:
1) Football returns in June behind closed doors. Neutral venues will unlikely be an option as a few clubs have objected (can’t really blame them).
2) Positions awarded on sporting merit using PPG. This would mean Liverpool Champions (with a massive asterix we will wear with pride!), top 4 as it is and bottom 3 as it is and relegated. I imagine Villa are against this.
3) Positions awarded on sporting merit using PPG weighted for home and away performances. This is where it gets interesting as Bournemouth and West Ham would swap and the Hammers would go down.
Apparently null and void is not an option (sorry Adlab) and neither is relegation exemption.
I personally think option 1 will happen. No it’s not an ideal situation but society and life must start to make steps back to normality and learn to live with the virus.

13th May 2020 at 9:39 am #1121831967-Sorry to have to say this, mate, but thats what herd immunity entails, namely that a % of population will not survive the virus, but that 98% would.Sadly is an decision governments worldwide will have to make it very soon,as economies will not be able to survive for much longer. In fact,we are approaching a stage where the measures to combat the virus are causing more damage to the general population than the virus itself, and lets face it pal,you can test people twice a day, lock the entire nation up,but the virus is here to stay-we might just as well learn to live with it and accept the consequences!
