I think I’ve gone from a couple of toes to a complete foot and most of a leg into the “just cancel it & start for next season (hopefully)” camp. Read a great piece yesterday stating that their plenty of other bussinesses up and down the country who’ve had to swallow a bitter pill because of the current climate, why do football clubs expect to get some sort of “special treatment” with regards to potential loses/bankruptcies.
Sure, it’s sad when any person/bussiness goes bankrupt, but considering the agony COVOID is causing on plenty of other levels, the problems of multi-millionare club owners and the pampered pricks who kick the ball about are pretty low on my list.

12th May 2020 at 9:29 am #112121pagan…did you notice the number of meetings to discuss protocol, as if it were absolutely necessary…..if they had the common sense they would have said Scapulas the season, results stand as they are and we will discuss when the season starts when we are in a position to convince the Govt it is safe for players and fans, until then, no more clap track. To TV companies…see you in court

12th May 2020 at 9:34 am #112123If they donβt finish the season then there will be chaos. No matter how they do it.
It wonβt be made null and void. If itβs scrapped, no matter what system they choose, clubs will be sueing someone. Itβs a complete mess and the pl donβt seem to have any kind of plan
The English government aswell. Iβm sorry lads but itβs embarrassing the way England have handled this. Johnsonβs statement on Sunday was a shambles. Go to work but donβt go back to work. Itβs so unclear
MPs contradicting each other. I got stick and people saying Hancock is an easy target well just look at him? Canβt handle any tough questions.
Shambles. I wouldnβt trust they government or the pl to have a breeeze about to get football/sport going again
No fan of the Irish government but we have a clear plan of phases to come out of this. Itβs clear. Iβll never forget the mistakes our government have made with regards the cervical cancer and disability payment scandals. Fucking idiots aswell.
Not sure how anyone can defend the English government. Fucking idiots and yet again they have embarrassed themselves

12th May 2020 at 9:41 am #112128Brian clubs will sue if they scrap the seasons. Clubs will sue if itβs done on sporting merit .
They cannot void the season and they wonβt. They have to finish the season or itβs leads to a world of chaos.
A lot of fans want it canceled as they donβt want to see Liverpool win it. Thatβs their only agenda. They donβt care about anything else. Itβs embarrassing when all tvis is going on
Forget about for now. Only go back when it had crowds and is safe to do so. If thatβs December then so be it and continue the season then
People want the season voided but what if football canβt start back till jan? Cancel next season then?
Season has to be finished no matter when that is otherwise clubs will be seeing everyone and it will be an absolute shambles.
England is going to get 2nd wave as the government are fools. The amount of people dying in the uk and the world is just heart breaking.

12th May 2020 at 10:50 am #112131There’s little to no desire to play the season out in for instance December Sean it either needs to be played out now over the next few months and if it can’t be which still remains a possibility then it needs to be called as per the French League and the FA dictate based on sporting merit either way Liverpool will be crowned Champions so you can relax. π

12th May 2020 at 11:03 am #112134The FA & PL want the government to prohibit sporting competitions until it is unpractical to complete the current season without affecting the next season, that way they are blameless and cannot be sued. The league cannot be voided as then it as if it didnβt happen and there will be no qualifiers for the European places, they can abandon it which will mean positions can be awarded where the committee decides, whether thatβs winners and relegation or no winners and no relegation is up in the air…..Pagan

12th May 2020 at 11:08 am #112136Pagan,
I think you might be on to something in your first para. However see below which has been widely reported?
“The Football Association has told the Premier League clubs that the 2019-20 season must be settled by βsporting meritβ, potentially splitting the six bottom clubs over how to finish the season.
It means that issues like relegation, top four and the title must be settled by either playing the remaining fixtures, or a mathematical formula based on games played, with a weighted points-per-game under consideration.” The Independent.

12th May 2020 at 11:22 am #112138No nine, our testing had been a shambles mate
We have got so much of this wrong. Allowing flights in etc. No fan of our government but their exit plan is clear. No ambiguity. They could have done so much more a hell of a lot better.
Nearly every country that has lifted restrictions seems to be in trouble again.
No quick exit from all this
Very relaxed about the football nine. Rarely comment on it or speak about it. I donβt read every article on here like some people. What will be , will be. Just giving my opinion on the state of affairs.

12th May 2020 at 11:49 am #112139Just watched the film Contagion last night. I think its 10 years old. Amazing similarities to today.
I suspect COBRA and SAGE meetings have been instructed by Dominic Cummings to just watch the film and quote the dialog_____________________________

12th May 2020 at 12:35 pm #112141The only plan they can have is wait, wait, wait. When it is safe to get back into training do so. When they are fit and ready to play do so. When it is safe for supporters to go back and watch matches, do so. This is like a war, a world war. Did they play football in war torn countries between 1939 and 1945 or 2014 and 2019? This is a worldwide war. F–k the football.

12th May 2020 at 1:16 pm #112142The only fair solution is to either a) play the last 80 odd games under the same rules as the first 270 odd games which nobody can have any complaints over or b) call it and see who sue’s for what because you’ll never please everybody and I very much doubt “a” is an option now.

12th May 2020 at 1:42 pm #112143Sean, I don’t think any Government of any country can say they haven’t made any mistakes this is a tough gig for all Governments buddie Ireland included.
I agree the UK Government have made mistakes both collectively and individually personally I think we should have gone into the lockdown sooner and I also think we should have been testing people coming into the UK and banning incoming flights into the UK too.
Re the ambiguity of the PM’s recent announcement re lifting the lockdown I saw a poll in the Express that said 66% of those who saw his broadcast on Sunday understood it but that’s not the point because 34% of them didn’t which is a problem.
Obviously moving from a Stay at Home statement to a Stay Alert statement was always going to be a bit more ambigous as it wasn’t as specific but Stay at Home couldn’t remain if the Government was allowing people more freedom from this week albeit limited.
I think it was right to ask those who can work from home to stay doing so whilst those that can’t to return to work if they can.
I would be suprised if everyone in the UK isn’t up to speed with the new rules now though.
How sensible it is to begin to release the lockdown is open to conjecture and there are critics on both sides of this with some calling for a release of the lockdown and some calling for it to be extended and Johnson is a much more difficult position than most leaders as not only does he have to cope with an Opposition Party within Parliament but also 2 dissolved Parliament’s too one of whom has a declared objective of independence.
Even Germany and South Korea who have arguably handled the pandemic the best have had to retrace their steps after lifting their lockdowns and I wouldn’t be surprised if the same doesn’t happen in the UK.
I understand and I’m sympathetic to your criticisim of Boris Johnson and the UK Government and the way they are handling the crisis in the UK but on the positive side at least Boris is doing a bit better than Donald.?
With regards to the football I was pleased with the reports of the FA’s intervention re finishing the PL if ultimately it can’t be played out.
If we can’t complete the season over the next 3/4 months then it’s wholly correct to declare Liverpool Champions anything else would be totally unjust imo.
I know there are some who would rejoice in the season being null and voided purely because it denies Liverpool the title but I don’t think that view is widely held and I’m certainly not one of them.
Anyway mate I hope you and your family are doing well stay safe . Cheers 9’s

12th May 2020 at 1:57 pm #112144Pagan, “sporting merit” seemingly means judging the season on the games that have already been played either taking the PL table as it stands or working it up on a points per game basis.
Ligue 1 in France are an example of a League that has already followed the “sporting merit ” strategy and if we can’t play the PL that would be the fairest way of finishing it imo.
But as Chucky suggests you’re never going to please everyone as we are currently seeing with Amien in France.
I’m sure if that’s the way it ultimately goes and as you yourself have touched on the PL would much rather have a Government dictate saying football has had to be abandoned to give them a level of protection against any legal actions.
But currently with numerous hurdles still to be cleared the plan remains to try and play it out if possible.

12th May 2020 at 2:14 pm #112146Two thirds of the PL Clubs are allegedly against restarting the PL on neutral grounds and want to replicate what is happening in the Bundesliga which would need both Government and Police approval.
PL players are according to the DM allegedly telling their Clubs via video calls that they will not return to training on Monday because of Coronavirus fears.
