I think the really sneaky cheeky one would be clubs recalling players on loan (like Henderson at Utd/YooUtd). Put a major dent in the race for the Top 4 for the Blades.

8th May 2020 at 11:27 am #111013It now appears clubs want to get players to sign a contract when they call them in, presumably to protect themselves from liability if they get Corona 19….any player that signs it must be mad it is just another protection racket. I would certainly need a lawyer to look at the fine print before I signed anything. The Coronavirus is NOT going away anytime soon, it does not matter if Governments make life easier or not, they should keep lockdown longer until they have ample proof they are on top of the situation…To day,, nobody is

8th May 2020 at 11:30 am #11101567, I think it’s going to be tough even for the PL Clubs and even the top PL Clubs will be substantially effected.
Championship sides will be even more effected as they have lesser revenue streams than the PL Clubs are more reliant on match going fans to generate revenues.
Further down the food chain Clubs from Division 1 down are even more reliant on match going fans, if they’ve got a star player they can sell short term that will help but these are the most vulnerable and I fear that many of them will find it very hard to come through this.

8th May 2020 at 11:38 am #111021The clubs are responsible for the health and safety of all staff, visiting personnel and fans. There is no get out clause to this, so, if they want to be sure and safe..plan for 2021 and stop faffing around Clubs will go bust, I feel the same sorrow as I do for local firms going bust as well and they do not have wealthy owners , investors and sponsors.

8th May 2020 at 12:36 pm #111074As you rightly say Mav complete and utter b******s. Just call the season now and start planning for next season whenever that may be.

8th May 2020 at 12:56 pm #111093“If we can get a plan that works then I’d like us to be able to go ahead with it because I think it would be good for the nation, it would be good for football as a whole.
“I’m really hopeful we can get this up and running but public safety must come first so it’s only if we’re confident of that that we’ll be able to proceed.” Oliver Dowden Culture Secretary today.

8th May 2020 at 2:25 pm #111167“Calciomercato add that Everton and Tottenham are βmost concernedβ with the defender. They, along with Newcastle, can βpresent important offersβ. But Koulibaly isnβt overly interested; he will leave βonly for a top clubβ.
Liverpool are thrust into the equation once more as one of four clubs Koulibaly βis ready to take into considerationβ. PSG, Real Madrid and Barcelona would also tempt the Senegalese but Everton, Tottenham and Newcastle βare not so attractiveβ in his eyes.”
One for you Mav. Yet more clickbait.?
Very difficult to get major players to join a project that to elevate themselves into even a Europa League place Newcastle will probably need to sign circa half a dozen quality players which won’t be able to be done in one season due to FFP.
What Chelsea and City did can’t be done again and it will take a different strategy from Newcastle if the takeover goes through and will almost certsinly will be slow burn

8th May 2020 at 2:30 pm #111171Okay, 5 subs allowed instead of three (but only three sub breaks as usual) which makes a bit of sense as it’s summer (but not entirely fair depending on who’s played who already), and VAR can be scrapped?? (Which makes no sense at all!)
Can’t say I’m entirely behind these new “rules” changes for whatever league starts up to finish.
I’m personally sticking a few toes in the “Just Scrap It” camp now, rather than the “Should Be Finished (As Long As It Doesn’t Effect Next Season” camp.

8th May 2020 at 2:50 pm #111189You can’t play three quarters of the season under one set of rule and now play the final quarter under a completely new set of rules.
Bigger squads,5 substitutes, no VAR, neutral grounds, 80 minute games, out of contract players potentially lost to the current squads etc.
They might get the League finished but it will have completely lost its integrity.
And after Liverpool have gained their required 6 points to secure the title what’s to stop them playing their B/C teams for the remainder of their games to protect their star players as they did v Villa and Shrewsbury in the Cups which could further distort important League results for other Clubs.
Anytime, Anyhow, Anywhere just doesn’t make sense to me just give Liverpool the title don’t relegate anyone ( you can’t relegate a Club on marginal goal difference with still 9 games to play) and promote the top 3 teams from the Championship and scrap next next season’s League Cup to allow for a 44 team season and start planning for next season whenever that may be.

8th May 2020 at 3:10 pm #111209Agree with about 99% of that in principle, but then we’ll have the debate about the three being promoted as I reckon the teams 4th onwards might have an opinion… and then we have the Euro spots… π
Maybe about 86,5% on reflection…

8th May 2020 at 3:43 pm #111237How can you have a competition and change the rules 3/4 of the way through and maintain any integrity.
Any winners and losers in each league will be rendered more meaningless than ever._____________________________

8th May 2020 at 4:06 pm #111256You can see where this is going, nothing to do with Coronavirus, thin edge of wedge gets deeper
80 minute game, more breaks, that in turn means the real target…more advertising breaks It is all to do with getting the game started when they should be thinking of how to stop people catching the virus and the following death rate. The game has finished how we knew it and we will have no say at all. I do not want to watch football under these rules I just wish these people would be honest with the population as a whole_____________________________

8th May 2020 at 5:32 pm #111328Abandon the season, no winners, no losers, teams in the European spots get them on merit, prem trophy to have NHS engraved on it for the 2019-2020 season.
Have a concerted effort to come up with how to get the next season started with plan A to Z depending on what happens globally and stick to it.
Not everyone will be happy, but lifeβs like that, but at least weβll know where we stand….Pagan

8th May 2020 at 8:38 pm #111483I was talking to Marlon Pack this afternoon he can’t wait to get back to training on May 18th very limited to start off with but building up gradually to restart the season and you can understand that with Cardiff just 2 points off a play off place.
