6th May 2020 at 5:37 pm #109567Mav, I reckon there’s as much chance of Chelsea beating Liverpool to the title this season as there is of Newcastle signing Koulibally. ๐
But we’ll see.

6th May 2020 at 7:15 pm #109631Firstly the takeover has yet to go through I suspect it will but there will be more than one Club interested in Koulibally assuming he does become available Napoli are historically very hard to deal with and I doubt Newcastle will be in a position to pay ยฃ90m for a Centre Back and remain within FFP rules.
Rich owners now don’t allow you to buy who you want transfer spending has to be driven by Clubs revenues and more importantly it’s profits in their last reported accounts Newcastle made a profit of just over ยฃ 18 m and a loss of just over ยฃ40m in the previous season.
What the new owners can do is to further develop the Stadium and the Academy and the area surrounding St James Park any takeover will take time to realise results.

6th May 2020 at 7:55 pm #1096589s-That will be biggest problem Newcastle will be faced with, namely the ability to attract top players,if the takeover goes ahead.

6th May 2020 at 8:06 pm #109666Didn’t touch on that one Mav but you’re right if Koulibally really becomes available there will be a number of top Clubs across Europe who will be interested in signing him and he will have his choice of top Clubs to go to.

6th May 2020 at 8:37 pm #109682I think this is going to be a transfer window like no other we’ve seen before currently we don’t even know when the transfer window will open or close due to the uncertainty of how this season will end and when the new season might start.
All Clubs are likely to be under financial pressure due to Coronavirus and with no fans coming through the gates and TV and Sponsorship monies under pressure too which will put pressure on what they can spend.
There’s a ridiculous amount of Click bait doing the rounds at the moment even more than usual with all the uncertainty surrounding football the biggest Clubs will be reluctant to fire their Cannons too early and find out they’ve paid considerably over the odds versus this Summer’s market pricing and I suspect we are likely to see more free transfers and swap deals than we’ve seen before in the next window.
The only real certainty is that Zilyich will become a Chelsea player as soon as the window opens.?

6th May 2020 at 11:40 pm #109780AnonymousMav, yep, interesting that… Currently the travel ban still remains in place in and out of Istanbul and Ankara to other towns and cities and between the two for non essential services so im told. (you’d hardly think it in the centre yesterday).
To be fair to the league, its sparsely attended outside of Istanbul clubs, the country is also watching the lira plummet and there are limited internal flights for now. Shopping Malls/ barbers and other shops and shopping malls will open too. The virus appears only to have got hold in the large densely urban areas so far… shops are closing on all streets from what I can see. Ominous for the place.

7th May 2020 at 11:28 am #110257The transfer window could be very interesting, the governing bodies are going to have to write off FFP for this and next season, theyโre not going to let clubs go bust when the owner is offering to put money in, and if thatโs the case some clubs may be creative…..Pagan

7th May 2020 at 11:41 am #110266Absoultely going to be interesting how the FFP angle plays. I can’t see them (UEFA) going full blown blank check status, surely to keep any level of integrity there’s going to be limits based on this years loses vs last years figures or something along those lines. I can’t see any club who, for example, turned over 200 million last years, suddenly spending money based on a turnover of 400 million being allowed to get away with it.
Free money to cover the loses, yes, but no blank checks when it comes to transfers.
And let’s face it, I think no club is going to go out and spend hundreds of milions on players, not when the players have been given pay-cuts etc… that will backfire in about 4 seconds.
It’s going to be a long, long window I think, even longer than usuual with not a lot of movement going on until the first person blinks. Everybody is going to want to sell first before they buy and get someidea of what the market place is suggesting. Going to be one of the more interesting windows I think. PLus a lot of “swapsies” going on too.
It’s going to be like the playground with the old Panini stickers.

7th May 2020 at 12:05 pm #110284Chuckles, so Team A has overspent by ยฃ100+m over 3 seasons and may be allowed to have a cash injection to stop them going to the wall, if they donโt let teams that have broken even or even made a profit over the same period have the same ability then theyโre getting penalised for sticking to the rules, yet another money earner for the lawyers…..Pagan

7th May 2020 at 12:48 pm #110315Given that the South East Asian countries seem to have recovered more quickly from this, whilst Europe will take longer, one wonders if the “game 39” proposal will quickly raise its head again to play a few games over there? There’s an even greater incentive now…

7th May 2020 at 12:50 pm #110318Exactly Peggy, if Team A has a turnover of 300 million, and suddenly it drops to 200 million, then the ownver is perfectly entitled to “give” the hundred million to make up the shortfall. Profit and loss over those three previous isn’t really a major matter. What I suspect the owner wouldn’t be allowed to do is to give Team A 200 million, suddenly increasing the turnover to 400 million and making 100 million profit on the 300 million they normally turnover so they have extra 100 million in the transfer market.
Sure, they’ll be some shannigans going on, with TEAM A possibly claiming they were expecting to make extra this year because of X, Y & Z etc… but the owners certainly won’t be able to write blank checks for transfers.

7th May 2020 at 12:51 pm #110319UEFA will just take into account the revenues lost through the Coronavirus nobody will be given a blank cheque to spend whatever they wany by UEFA.

7th May 2020 at 1:26 pm #110344Pre Coronavirus Clubs were only allowed to lose 30m euros over a 3 year period.
The 30m euros of losses will obviously go out of the window this season and next. But UEFA aren’t stupid PSG won’t suddenly be able to go out and spend 400m Euros and then put that down to losses their will be revenue losses from no spectators, potential loss of sponsorships and loss of TV revenues all of those I’m sure will be approved by UEFA.
