Scrap this season’s competition with no final result and no trophy…….Only joking Sean!

I really am not sure what to do. Perhaps:
– pause the season until say June/ July
– postpone the Euros
– finish off the season in the summer for all leagues (if possible)

Madrid players now in quarantine, I would assume that will effect the game vs City?

With players now getting the virus (Madrid was a basketball player but they share the facilities with the football team) and teams unable to travel to certain countries I cannot see how the European competitions can carry on. The best ting to do in my opinion is to delay the season and postpone the Euro Champs, therefor giving the leagues time in the summer to finish. The problem is that we don’t know for sure how long the virus will be with us, with some reports suggesting a European peak in summer.

Even with closed stadiums and pubs unable to show matches, there will still be issues. If there is a spectator ban for when Liverpool win the league I’m pretty sure there will be a few thousand outside, so how does that help the situation? PSG had loads outside last night.

Delay all leagues and lock down every highly infected country now. Learn from Italy and don’t leave it too late.

Adlab, not sure you can delay the end of season as some players will be out of contract and others may have signed pre contract offers for other teams under the Bosman ruling. Think the only option is voiding the season…..Pagan

If you void the league then teams like Liverpool, Leeds, Leicester would be in uproar. Also there’s a chance England would have no CL teams as effectively no one will have qualified for it. You cannot just assume the previous years teams would be given automatic entry again and why should they?

If you stop and keep the current positions as the final positions then teams like Utd, Wolves, Fulham, Bournemouth and Villa would be in uproar. You might even get City complaining saying it was still possible for them to win the league if Liverpool haven’t secured it first.

There’s also compensation to consider for TV companies and maybe the subscribers, and sponsors etc.

And this would be for the whole English football world at every level. Whole big can of worms could be opened…

I personally don’t think finishing a football league is a top priority at this moment.

And you can’t hand our trophies if the league is incomplete no matter how big the lead is.

Quite what they will do regarding next season is open to debate, but as you were would be my best guess…..Pagan

Regardless of the problems posponement until the summer or voiding the leagues are the only realistic ways forward.
Me. I would postpone until the summer. If things are not under control by July then the leagues are void and next season starts with the same teams.
Would be desparate for Liverpool, genuinely. But not many options.

No Pagan finishing a football league isn’t top priority but this is a football forum hence why I and others are discussing what could happen.

I never said hand out trophies if the league is incomplete, my opinion is to lock down everyone from a highly infected country and suspend all events, sport or otherwise, until the situation is better. And they should do it now before it’s too late. I was just stating some of the problems voiding or curtailing would occur. Compared to the many deaths etc they are insignificant but as said this is a football forum, and in the footballing world they are important points.

Threeps, wasn’t aiming at you personally and I realise it’s going to upset a lot of fans, and clubs that miss out on promotions and qualifications are going to severely financially disadvantaged, but I suspect in the cold light of day they will be accepting of the situation.

We can only hope that the restrictions, if it comes to that are short term, but we are where we are….Pagan

How about if they cancelled the season now and then for next season, the team currently at the bottom starts on zero points? The teams above them all then start on however many points above the bottom team they are. It wouldn’t give teams or fans what they want but neither would it mean everything done this season goes to waste (in terms of relative points difference).

The European places HAVE to have a unique solution. My suggestion would be to award the same spots as this year with the teams left in the Europa to fight it out in preseason for that remaining CL place.

Ed, It’s a complicated situation. Personally I don’t think this season’s results should impact on next season if has to be a completely new season imo.

I’m with 9 on that, the precedent was set the last time the league was cancelled, the next League was started from scratch, admittedly the cancelled league wasn’t as near to completion as now….Pagan

Oh I’d personally prefer that, too. I just think that may help soften the blow of the teams who have all but secured something meaningful. Those like Liverpool and those chasing promotion on the lower leagues. Also for those who have been rubbish don’t deserve to wipe the slate clean when so much is at stake. A team currently facing relegation from the PL will probably save themselves around 100mil by avoiding relegation if the league is cancelled. The very least is they start with some disadvantage next year.

It’s not ideal but I think starting from scratch is even more unfair, as much as I’d love that to happen for personal reasons
