Players are “scared” about the prospect of returning to action amid the coronavirus pandemic, says Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.
The Premier League is hoping to resume the season on 8 June, which would require players to be be back in full training by 18 May.
Top-flight clubs will meet on Friday to discuss options for the restart.
“The majority of players are scared because they have children and families,” said 31-year-old Aguero.
Speaking to Argentine TV station El Chiringuito, the Argentina international Aguero added: “I’m scared but I’m with my girlfriend here and I’m not going to be in contact with other people. I’m locked in my house and the only person I could infect is my girlfriend.
“They’re saying that there are people that have it and don’t have any symptoms but still infect you. That’s why I am here at home. Maybe I have the illness and I don’t even know

30th April 2020 at 9:25 pm #103510With all the scenarios I cannot see winter breaks happening and a major fixture pile up. Squads will need to be super fit now and rotated more but I can see a lot of players being burnt out, oddly enough, I think the youngsters may suffer more unless they are managed in the right way I do not think next season will be as enjoyable somehow but hope I am wrong

30th April 2020 at 10:02 pm #103535I might be naive but, having reviewed much of the analysis on here and elsewhere, I’m perplexed why the prospect of returning to professional football soon is being taken seriously. Liverpool can be awarded the Championship and everything else is either frozen or there can be a bun fight over promotion and relegation if that’s what people want. Let’s leave the past and start to think how to move forward at some stage whenever that may be.
I know football matters to many individuals but overall it’s a relatively small part of life and economic activity so, set against the events so far in 2020 and the pain and uncertainty yet to come for millions for goodness knows how long, it’s an irrelevance. Yes there’ll be a mess to unravel and sort at all levels of football worldwide but so be it – it’s as nothing to the issues that face the real world._____________________________

1st May 2020 at 1:04 am #103648Sergio Aguero, you and just about every other person on planet Earth. In all walks of life whether you are a professional footballer or a barista at the local coffee shop this is the identical thought process of the majority. The only difference is the likes of Aguero can afford to take time off until things are clearer. Retire and make a dramatic sensational comeback when the world is a better place.

1st May 2020 at 9:45 am #103958If the. PL starts now it won’t finish some Players and Coaching Staff will almost certainly get infected no matter how they do it and if the PL are going against the advice of the Medical Director of FIFA where will Clubs stand with insurance on their players too.
Award Liverpool the title they deserve it although I think the Mayor of Liverpool makes some good points re what will happen when Liverpool officially become Champions and that’s a worry a bigger worry than the 3,000 Athletico Madris supporters who shouldn’t have been at Anfield..
Don’t relegate anyone from the PL and promote 3 from the Championship.
It’s a massive problem for all Clubs but particularly those below the Championship and many will struggle to survive.
Nobody knows when football can safely restart and even when it does I can see it being played behind closed doors for potentially a season.
But there are much more important things in life than football.
Stay safe all on here and your families too that’s what really matters now.

1st May 2020 at 10:59 am #103992Pagan-It seems/sounds as if even the next season could be in jeopardy and in some state of precariousness,as things stand. And unless a vaccine is widely available, and proving to be curing people,it makes perfect sense to ban all the major events until its safe.

1st May 2020 at 11:05 am #103999Anonymous999 – you keep saying that Liverpool should be awarded the title because they deserve it but what about everyone else? do we say Norwich deserve to be relegated because even though they aren’t mathematically down they probably will go down. Should Leeds and West Brom be promoted as they are likely to come up even though they aren’t mathematically up and, Leeds have previous form of throwing it away. Should Stevenage be kicked out the football league? They’re likely to go down, but they might escape if they carry on. They can’t just make a decision based on Liverpool. You cancel it and call every position as it is and invoke promotion/relegation and prepare for every single legal battle brought to you, or you void it and do what they did in holland. League positions as they are are final, no winners, no losers, top 6 get Europe. You cant treat Liverpool differently just because its the premier league and they would have won it.

1st May 2020 at 11:28 am #104001Paxton, there’s no perfect solution mate but I’ve consistently said I don’t think there should any relegation and the top 2 Clubs in the Championship should be promoted plus one other however they can work out the 3rd Club to be promoted without the play offs and play a 44 game season next season with 6 relegated at the end of it.
But tbh you can shoot holes in every proposal bar playing out all of the games across every League and given where we are with the Coronavirus I really can’t see that happening.
It would be grossly unfair imo not to award Liverpool the title and there seems to be a desire to do that amongst the PL Clubs if the season can’t be completed, I don’t disagree that everyone needs to be treated the same.
I guess the fairest way of all is to end the League’s on a ppg basis but that would relegate Bournemouth on goal difference which would be extremely tough on them.

1st May 2020 at 11:51 am #104003Anonymousbut how is it fair on the teams that have say played Liverpool and city twice whereas their closest rivals have played them once? yo clearly do disagree about treating everyone the same because you’re saying to award Liverpool the title and Leeds and west from promotion when they haven’t earned it. why are the rules different for them? sadly for Liverpool they didn’t do enough to mathematically win the title in time and Leeds and west from didn’t do enough to earn promotion.

1st May 2020 at 12:17 pm #104004“Gary Neville has suggested the idea of taking the Premier League abroad to a coronavirus-free quarantined environment to finish the season”…think that’s rather pie in the sky. Planning would be mammoth.

1st May 2020 at 2:15 pm #104087Paxton, as I said you can shoot holes in every proposal on how to end the season bar playing out all the games which remains questionable as to how achievable that will be in the final analysis.
Nothing will be completely fair but wherever the League’s have ended they’ve either ended on ppg or as they stand.
We could follow the Dutch route but that wouldn’t be completely fair either and the Dutch League didn’t have a team leading their League by 25 points when they took their decision and France when they took their decision had PSG leading their League by 11 points and awarded them the title.
I wouldn’t completely discount the season being null and voided if it can’t be played out as legally it might be the preferred route for the PL.
Alternatively we could try and play out the rest of the season out no matter what, even at the expense of the impact it would have on next season too which personally I don’t agree with.
Whatever the decision is that is taken bar playing it out there will be winners and losers as we’ve seen in both Holland and France and not everyone will be happy because there is no perfect answer to this.
