The Champions League idea is just a way of protecting itself from the threat of a European Super League by pretty much becoming it.
The dates UEFA get I would think will be the preferred dated and the latest dates the domestic competitions would want/need to start. When all said and done it will be down to governments, but at least there will now be cut off dates. What happens if these are missed is the big question…..Pagan

Agreed buddie my personal view is that’s it there’s no point in trying to cram these last 9 games anyhow anywhere..
Next season should not be overly sacrificed for this Season imo.
I would like to see the PL, UEFA/the ECA set a provisional start date for the new Season which then sets the dates for the transfer window too. The PL League has been won anyway don’t relegate the bottom 3 and promote the top 3 in the Championship then to get back to where we were and relegate 6 teams next season.
If the League Cup has to go for a season because of the extra PL games so be it.

Atlanta have been a breath of fresh air in the CL imo. Clubs have to have a dream.

PS To play games on a neutral ground would be grossly unfair. Imagine if you had played Liverpool away and your home game is due only to be told you have to play say at the Etihad rather than Old Trafford. Just rubbish!

So cancelled means null and void for all teams I assume? Think here they can have awarded the title to Liverpool as they cannot be overtaken and what happens as far as CL places are concerned?

The French have also “abandoned” the league, with no champions or relegations, they are however using current placement to decide on European qualification.
This is different to Voiding the league, as that would mean it never happened and current placement couldn’t be used….Pagan

If you look at the leagues, the best outcome financially if the league cannot be completed in a timely manner is to abandon this one and start afresh.
The current league is 75% complete, so the clubs will get at least 75% of their money, if They go for “complete this season at any cost” and next season doesn’t happen then they lose 100% of next season’s payments…..Pagan

Mav, I was of the understanding they’d follow the Dutch, no winners no losers. If you declare a winner then you also have to declare losers, and as such you open yourself up to litigation from the clubs from the next division down who would want promotion…..Pagan

That’s the key above Mav the plug was pulled by the French Government the French FA now have to decide what happens in terms of the title etc etc.
There are concerns in Spain about La Liga returning and the Italian Foreign Minister is quoted as saying he thinks it’s too early to return.
As we know the Dutch and the Belgium Leagues have already pulled the plug and the SPFL have voted to do the same despite Rangers protests.
I’m not sure how PSG can proceed in the CL now and possibly Lyon too if they should progress it looks like it’s all imploding despite the PL still trying to get the PL up and running and UEFA trying to retain this Season’s CL and EL.
The Government will have to tread very carefully now with regards to Sport in the short to medium term given what’s being decided in Europe.

Nearly 600 deaths today bringing the total to nearly 22,000 and nearly 4,000 new cases personally I think the lockdown has to stay in place and we should forget all Sport until the Autumn at the earliest.

Ha, ha, nope not got a clue Brian just used September 3rd as a for instance.
I do think though it would be useful for the PL to confirm a projected start for the new Season as that would provide a projected close off date for the old Season and provide a projected open and closing date for the transfer window. Cheers 9’s

There are going to be some spectacular court cases between the league and insurance companies not wanting to pay out on a cancelled league. one could put the other out of business. Those in the leagues looking up might fancy their chances to screw the leagues above for more money unless a payment comes from the top down to the winners of the championship, league one and the rest. Get your flat stadium beer and tepid pies ready chaps… going to get nasty unless a compromise is found.
