Points per game as it stands now is the best route, only other alternative play behind close doors with only players and coaching staff allowed in plus of course match officials and a couple of cops. Providing obviously they all test negative. Shouldn’t he a problem.

26th April 2020 at 10:43 am #99511I don’t pay attention to infection rates, it’s more a indication of how much testing is happening. More important is the death rate. Once that rate starts to decline then countries will ease up the restrictions. They have to, for the state of the economy and the state of their people. Full lock down over a long period of time will do more harm then the virus.
Football is not the most important thing right now but that doesn’t mean you have to say let’s not even think about it till this situation passes. As I’ve said before life goes on in every aspect, and that includes things that we enjoy (and is also a multi-million pound industry) like football. I understand that the UK is suffering more than most at the moment but I am talking about in a few weeks time if hopefully the death rate shows a significant decline.
If the UK cannot put together a solution by that time to play games then I think you as a country will have major issues with life in general. Over here in DE they seem to have a solution for football to start on the 9th May. Teams resumed restricted training a week or two ago.Small shops are now open again, as are parks, ice cream stalls etc and life is starting to return to normal. I’ve just been out on a bike ride to the Bay Area and back (tidy little stadium) and there’s thousands out enjoying the sun. The only negative thing over here is that as of tomorrow we must wear a face mask on public transport and in supermarkets.

26th April 2020 at 12:09 pm #99561threeps ..we have a plan!!! Good luck to those who are easing there way back, we are not ready because our death rate is still high. Football is a non entity in this scenario and Pagan and Nine are right in there observation as it applies here. Nobody is going to help us, we have to do it ourselves, stick together and follow the guide lines, that is the way we come through it. Allowing football to start, even with a closed door operation, brings additional risk and social responsibilities. Pagan is right, Football,it is driven by commercial interest, NOT for the whole welfare of the population. It will take away vital services when they are needed and lets not forget some of the front line workers need a rest and there replacements should not be at a football match I have been a football fan for many years but common sense must take place. I do not even care if the commercial aspect of football suffers, maybe, we will get some sensibilities back but suffer they must, like the rest of us I wonder how much suffering they do in there palatial offices and if they are on any kind of furlough, I doubt it Threeps, I am not having a go at you other than pointing out my view why we should not give football any priority, at least, the Pro game.Kids games need looking at, I am not sure anything can be done though Take care

26th April 2020 at 1:28 pm #99606I am not saying to give football any priority, I’m saying you need to start making steps to get on the road to normal life. I’ve said I understand the uk is not in a good way and you’re not ready for that yet but you as a population you need to start thinking more positively. And that is about every aspect of life, not sorely football. I mention football as this is a football forum.
I’m not going to preach how any individual should live their life just my opinion on you as a nation. From what I’ve read the powers that be also understand the need to get back to some sort of normality as soon as possible. You will suffer severely if you dont. Unemployment, recession, and mental health issues will be on a level never seen before.
Your government has a plan yes but it seems many of you has a plan to sit about and feel sorry for yourselves or sending love and prayers to the families very old famous people that have died.
I have views on this whole situation that many on here will find inappropriate so perhaps it’s best I drop out for a while. My last word is yes Corona is terrible and I appreciate that families are suffering but to me there are far worse humanitarian disasters happening elsewhere in the world that get hardly any coverage. And that is far more terrible.

26th April 2020 at 1:43 pm #99616I can’t see Football returning until the Lockdown is eased and that won’t happen before the Government’s 5 tests below are met.
We can all have opinions but the fact is that we in the UK are led by the Government and whatever Football might want to do in the UK it can’t without Government approval.
1)To make sure the NHS can cope by providing sufficient critical care across the UK.
2)To see a sustained and consistent fall in daily death rates with confidence the UK is beyond the peak.
3)Reliable data to show the infection rate is falling to manageable levels.
4)There is enough testing and personal protective equipment (PPE) to meet future demand.
5) Any changes in restrictions would not lead to a second peak.
If the Bundesliga does restart then that will be an interesting example to study prior to any move by the PL to restart but Germany are in a different place with the Coronavirus than the UK.

I’m not looking for a row threeps but at the end of the day it’s just a game mate attacking the UK as a nation, its population and posters on here just because they have a different view to your own as to when it might be appropriate for the PL to return is unnecessary.
Let’s try and understand that we all see things differently and try and keep things friendly on here despite differing views in such difficult times.

26th April 2020 at 3:35 pm #996813ps-Some of us have said that a few times, mate, that governments will have to make a quick decision on that front. The impact that lockdown will have medium to long-term will be davastating to the worlds economy, far, far more than Covid-19.I agree with you thats a very tough decision to make, but a decision nevertheless that somebody will have no choice but to make, namely that the economy takes priority.

I say worry about ones own backyard first and foremost however respect and care about all others and hope for the best. Remember that We are all in this together and everybody’s safety is paramount. At this point in time it is simple F–K everything else, especially sport.

27th April 2020 at 11:48 am #100383Looks like a “jolly” to me , so they can meet up and have a chat with mates (?) ( for some) It does put others at risk though which the Club would claim it cannot be responsible for. have patience and WAIT…when time ready go into full training and start a new season

27th April 2020 at 12:02 pm #100392When I said “wait and have patience” that is what the rest of the public ARE doing and not get over paid prima dons back and the behest of self interested officialdom to make more money. Get the shopkeepers, factories back first not non productive activities for the country I hope, after all this, our Govt will take a strong view on being self sufficient again and encourage industry to start up, yes to steel, yes to textiles in all areas yes to shipbuilding, and others We will not be reliant on others so much then Any fanciful projects like HS2 and heathrow soap and divert energies into developing industry. The Services have played clan they keep britain going for too long but go from one crisis to the next, we need to less reliant on “the City” Sorry this has become a little too political and not meant to be just that I want lessons to be learned from when we come out of this crisis. It is not just a medical one but how we see our future

27th April 2020 at 12:25 pm #100405Nice sentiments Double B, but until everyman and his dog get over his idea they want to pay bottom dollar for everything and hence everything is made in China or wherever, then it’s never really going to happen.
English workers are never going to work for Chinese saleries, hence the English consumer will never get Chinese prices. You can suggest it’s the Govenrments fault but I think society itself needs to take a long hard look in the mirror with it’s cheap prices and throwaway culture.
A perfect example is my company. It’s cheaper for us to make stuff in China and ship it to Finland than it is to make it in Finland. And we had the same thing when I was working in England too.

27th April 2020 at 1:19 pm #100439“Brighton boss Graham Potter said he is uncomfortable over the desire to resume playing football while the coronavirus pandemic is still hitting the country so hard.
Premier League clubs are meeting this week and the focus will be on how they can restart the season, having been suspended since mid-March due to Covid-19.
While the first peak of the virus is thought to have passed, there have been close to 20,000 confirmed deaths in Britain.
Potter, whose parents both died in the last year, insists that football should not be the priority right now.
“That’s what I find personally quite challenging. We speak about football at the same time as close to 20,000 people are dying,” he said.
“In lots of cases, people aren’t even able to hold the hand of the person that’s passing away, which is heartbreaking.
“I know from my own experiences that losing parents was hard enough. But to lose them to a virus when we could have done something about it … this discussion about when to play football and being safe to do so is not the most important thing for us to consider.
“Where we want to speak about football and around when we can start playing football, the reality of it is that we are in this horrendous situation where lives have been cut short and people aren’t able to hold the hands of their loved ones as they pass away.
“That’s the thing that we have to really remember all the time when we’re considering what the way forward is.”
It is widely accepted that if and when football resumes it will be behind closed doors, which raises some questions over the sporting integrity of the league.
For example, Brighton have had to play Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United away from home in an intense atmosphere but will not get the advantage of playing those teams in front of their own fans.
Potter says there will be an element of home advantage still.
“It’s a Premier League game but the passion and the involvement of the crowd is not there,” he said. “You have to deal with that by playing football at the training ground, for example, because there’s nobody there then.
“But once we finally get to the point where it’s safe to play a Premier League game behind closed doors, just playing football will be quite an emotional occasion.
“I think it will be a very poignant moment for everybody. It’s one we’re looking forward to but it’s going to be a challenge as well.
“The Premier League is about a passionate crowd, an involved crowd. That’s the beauty of the product.
“And all of a sudden we are going to something completely opposite of that. A sterile environment where there’s no atmosphere.
“You still have an advantage because you’re familiar with the surroundings. It’s your pitch, it’s your home. That’s still there.
“But you do lose the involvement of the crowd because they aren’t there. I think everybody would say ideally what we would like is to play in front of people. But the circumstances mean that we have to do what we have to do.
“It’s one of those things that we have to get on with and deal with as best we can. It will be interesting to see how it goes.”
