25th April 2020 at 3:20 pm #98793Brian, I think there’s a desire to try and play the Season out but everything we are seeing from other Leagues and the football authorities suggests if won’t go past August.
It will be behind closed doors if it happens and there will be complications with players out of contract at the end of June and logistically too etc.
If it doesn’t happen and it doesn’t look like it will in Scotland even behind closed doors then I wouldn’t want the PL to be null and voided as I think it would be unfair on Liverpool but you can’t rule anything out.
Whatever happens it needs to be fair for all I would be happy to see no relegation and 3 sides up from the Championship and a one off 46 game season.
Glad it’s not my call though. Will this season be completed? It’s difficult to say but it needs adequate testing conditions and not before NHS and Key staff. And if any of the players or Coaching staff go down with Coronavirus it’s all over.
When a new Season might start is open to conjecture too but based on UEFA’s and the ECA’s announcements last week they don’t seem prepared to let this season impact on next season too dramatically and we already have 2 Leagues called in Europe and one pending a call and it would be a bit odd for those Leagues and perhaps others to be called and perhaps playing a new season whilst the PL were still trying to play out this one and on that basis I don’t think it will go much beyond August to finish this season. And then there’s the 2020/21 CL and EL if it happens?
But we’ll see on all counts it’s all impossible to predict currently and the main thing is beating the Coronavirus and everyone possible remaining safe and whilst hundreds are still dieing it seems pretty inappropriate to be planning any return to football. Take Care and stay safe 9’s

25th April 2020 at 3:57 pm #98820Brian- We all want it to end, but the end must not be capable of starting again and making things worse They have to keep an eye for the 2nd wave, which has already hit Japan,S.Korea and China. The people in charge are really in a very bad situation as of what to do.

25th April 2020 at 4:16 pm #98832There are many other issues with closed door games. Police would have to be employed Paramedics and fans will turn up at the gates, no doubt about that. How many staff will need to be on duty, including catering, cleaners, security One player or staff go down and I agree its all over but it should never have started
I am on record in saying Liverpool won the title and should be AWARDED the trophy, the table stands from that point, you cannot cover all bases in this scenario, some will be unlucky but a clean slate is needed. The only other viable route is void all league positions in all leagues and that would be more unpopular No winners I guess in this scenario whatever happens but the lack of decisive action is a concern, why do they pay people who cannot make decisions?

25th April 2020 at 4:37 pm #98846We have had the fortune of having a rich culture of league structure which has to be the envy of most countries. However, modern times of football finance has ruled that heavy investment is deemed necessary It may well be that we will see a major loss of clubs in all leagues and the leagues themselves will have to be re shaped, cull, for a better word. Despite the wealth in the game football, given the huge structure is not sustainable for all. maybe in 10 years we will see a revival but I think it will take that long I would hate to see leagues like Europe and just a few teams dominating, I do not want to see City/UtdLiverpool/ Arsenal Chelsea/ etc dominating either.I want to see Everton, Preston Birmingham and Bristol and Watford to change the face at the top, I know, daydreaming again but I hope you all get the gist of what I am trying to say The capping of players wages will undoubtably help towards regulating the financial requirements but I would be against any restriction on how much owners could invest in the club, this is business, not football Profits will be made debts will occur but the balance sheet will always catch up at some point if anything amiss is taking place. Lots can be done in the accounting area.maybe this subject should have started another thread The future of football, as we DO NOT know it

25th April 2020 at 7:48 pm #98966Voiding will not happen. It would mean teams miss out on prize money and no one qualifies for the European competitions.
The preferred choice is to play out and finish the season but failing that abandon the league. If the latter is necessary then the big decisions are what to do for final placements. My guess is by points per game for league postion with Liverpool as champions but with no relegation. Maybe Leeds and WBA go up for a larger league next season. This would ensure no massive law suits. Voiding certainly would.

25th April 2020 at 8:19 pm #98986Very sadly deaths passed 20,000 today with over 800 deaths reported today alone there’s no way football can return anytime soon on that basis.

25th April 2020 at 8:46 pm #99005Nine, that’s not what’s being said, they are still looking at restarting. Whilst its tragic for those that have lost someone close, life does inevitably move on and without wanting to cause offense to anyone it really has to. Football and sport in general are important parts of our lives.
I’ve read many times on here that people cant even think about football whilst so much despair and pain is being caused every day. I disagree and I’ll admit that might not sit well with people on here but we must look at returning to normality as quickly as possible. Be it either football, work, holidays or whatever. If you dont then the effects of coronavirus will be far longer lasting.

25th April 2020 at 9:26 pm #99030What football says and what the Government says are two different things.
I’m personally very unsure about rushing PL football back I don’t thinks it’s necessary Liverpool have clearly won the title and they should be crowned Champions everything else can fall into place from there.
Football behind closed doors with no fans at all in neutral venues is not normality imo. Players potentially away from their families for two months with squads potentially weakened by the circa 60 players who are out of contract
Para medics and Ambulances having to be in attendance in case of player injuties as well as Police albeit at lower levels still at a time of emergency doesn’t seem right to me.
And I suspect thousands of Liverpool fans will turn up at the Ground where the title will be confirmed.
Would I like the season to be played out? Yes I would but not until its safe and without all the problems and restrictions. Just my opinion though mate. Cheers 9’s

26th April 2020 at 8:17 am #99417Football and sport in general is way down the things to do list. Restrictions will be in place until we either find a cure or prevention for this virus. The measures we have now are neither of those theyโre just a means of rationing the disease.
Of course the Premier League want to resume, theyโre getting pressured from the broadcasters who are losing customers and advertising revenue, but whilst we have a highly infectious and deadly disease doing the rounds unnecessarily bringing groups of people in to very close contact and then transporting them round the country to come into contact with other groups doing the same thing is absolute madness…..Pagan

26th April 2020 at 8:30 am #99427Pagan sounds like you’re going from one extreme to the other, no football at all or back to how it was. Restrictions will part of our lives for a while now but they need to be relaxed so life can gradually return to normal.
The Bundesliga will start again in think in 2 or 3 weeks. Will be interesting to see how its managed.

26th April 2020 at 8:43 am #99435A government spokesman said: โMinisters continue to work with sports governing bodies on how live sporting events can resume in the future.
“This can only happen once we have passed the five tests for easing social distancing measures.โ
Those five tests include slowing the infection and death rates of the virus.
Based on the above as I said yesterday in respect of the UK with 20,000 deaths being passed and with over 800 deaths a day thereโs no way football can return anytime soon.
Football in England can plan to return but until the deaths and infection rate which was over 4,000 yesterday drop dramatically I can’t see any way football can return until both drop dramatically.

26th April 2020 at 8:43 am #99436Threeps, the scenario above is for playing behind closed doors, I donโt see how a club can function with much less than 50 people, of which 25-30 would be going round the country to games and then closely coming into contact with the other team……Pagan

26th April 2020 at 9:23 am #99463The infection rate worldwide is going up. The Americans are easing their way back to work because economically they say they have too. Watch their infection rate blow out even further. We are in a cocoon in Australia desperately locking it out. The minute we relent and open everything up our figures will rise. People will go back to normal and forget social distancing and the last month’s burden on the economy and people gernerally will count for nothing.
Already they are talking about the schoolies going back to class room learning, initially one day a week but no social distancing in place in the classroom. WTF there are most likely silent carriers everywhere in society. Surely there is a danger of one of those kids bringing it in from home or elsewhere. So young one brings it home and infects their grandparents next time they see them. Not all old frail people are locked up in nursing homes. They seem to forget that.
