Jokes aside,I support & fully agree with the Championship clubs calling for permanent salary cap.Should be endorsed & implemented across the board, otherwise many clubs will go bust.

16th April 2020 at 10:20 am #96129Paxton, Dundee were relegated it was Dundee United who were declared Champions the SPL still remains in limbo due to UEFA’s threat to Leagues who call the season prematurely that they may lose their European places which obviously doesn’t apply below the SPL although the SPL have voted to call the season if games can not restart by June 10th.
I think we can all agree that the best way to finish the season is to play it out however realistically that may not be possible and this season can’t go on forever which both the FA and UEFA seemingly agree on based on their quotes and if it’s not possible to play the season out then the PL aggregating the points won so far X 38 games as they done in Scotland seems the fairest way of ending the season albeit not where anyone would ideally want to be.
It wasn’t the way that Scottish football ideally wanted to go as SPFL chairman Murdoch Maclennan explained โWith the turmoil and uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, there was always going to be a highly-charged and passionate debate about how we secure the future of Scottish football. It is no exaggeration to say that this was an existential matter for Scottish clubs, with many of them telling us they were at real risk of going under unless the situation was resolved very quickly, so Iโm pleased that the game has moved decisively.”
Passing the resolution means end-of-season payments can now be sent to clubs in the three lower divisions “by the end of this week,โ the SPFL said.
It is widely reported today that “At least nine English PL teams, have held serious discussions over their reluctance to allow the situation to drag on. They will present their case to their rivals at a league summit on Friday.
The group of clubs want the campaign curtailed if they cannot squeeze in the remaining fixtures.”

I agree and I think we are about to see a real sea change in football going forwards re salaries, transfer fees and agents fees.

16th April 2020 at 11:11 am #961329, Iโm well aware of which side of the cake factory were to be relegated and declared champions, I think it was Paxton who mentioned individual teams.
As for how the vote went, the choice was in reality between staying in business or going broke, not really a football choice.
It will be the same in England, the lower league teams will need the season to end in order to get the money they need to try and survive.
Also interesting that they use the phrase โdeclared championsโ rather league winners…..Pagan

16th April 2020 at 12:23 pm #96133AnonymousPagan – I have no issue with the concept, but 999 said we should follow how the SPFL did it. My point was the way they did it was not good. Votes were not cast by the deadline, and then they were, later they were changed. I understand not everyone will be satisfied by the outcome, but if enough votes are in favour of the decision, then that is what they go with. The way it was handled in Scotland was terrible.

16th April 2020 at 1:59 pm #96135Pagan, apologies I intended that post to be addressed to Paxton. My mistake. Doh!?
Of course I wasn’t suggesting that we should make the mess of the vote that the SPFL managed, I was merely suggesting we should follow the concept of how the SPFL approached settling their League seasons by taking the points gained by each PL Club and averaging them out over 38 games but only if we can’t finish the season on the pitch in a reasonable time frame which currently unfortunately looks a possibility, seemingly Paxton himself agrees with the concept.
There will never be universal acceptance on how we settle this season amongst the Club’s and the fans but at some point as we all know settled it will have to be. Cheers 9’s

16th April 2020 at 2:09 pm #96137I know it could be so much worse, and I’m nowhere near as badly off from all this as a hell of a lot of other people, but this working from home going nowhere existance is starting to twist my melons into lemons and all that…
On a brighter note, how cool is Captain Tom!! He’s my new hero!! (Sorry, Goosey!)

16th April 2020 at 2:11 pm #96138“Half of Premier League’s clubs will push to see the season ended by the traditional June 30 deadline at Friday’s shareholders’ meeting, even if all games are not completed.
The 20 club executives will discuss, over a video call, the latest plans to end the season and, despite a commitment from many to end the campaign whatever it costs, some are fearful of the contract chaos that running past the end of June could bring.
Any player who was set to be out of contract at the end of the season, such as Olivier Giroud at Chelsea or Jan Vertonghen at Tottenham, is contracted until June 30.
Should the season continue past that date they would have no obligation to continue playing and extensions could prove complicated to agree with players keen not to threaten a future move or threaten injury.
The Football Association made the decision last month to indefinitely extend the date by which the season could be finished, while Fifa have published guidelines stating that any player whose contract is set to expire this summer should see it out until the end of the campaign, whenever that may be.” Evening Standard 16/04

16th April 2020 at 3:14 pm #96143True enough Pagan. But the question is if we can’t find a way to finish the PL season within a reasonable time frame on the pitch is it the best way for the PL finish the season? Seems like it might be to me.

16th April 2020 at 5:29 pm #96144When I’m not Arsenaling about on here, I “frequent” another little site and they have some truly wonderful debates about Trump on there… there are even a couple of Trumpette’s on there (although they are often referred to as ‘spangletwats’ which I find highly amusing!). But yes, Trump is an absolute moron.
Anyway, I’m thinking, due to such a fuckangular sporting calender this year, and being my new hero, we need to start…

17th April 2020 at 8:20 am #96146AnonymousI think if the season cant be finished it should be null and void. this will be devastating for Liverpool fans but if it is called as it stands it will be devastating for the teams relegated. how many times have we seen a team at the bottom put a run together and survive? it happens pretty much every year.
so let’s say they do the points per game x 38 thing. Bournemouth, Norwich and villa get relegated to the championship. which 3 teams come up? Swansea in 11th are only 3 points off a playoff spot.
I think European football should be cancelled next year for several reasons, mainly because very few teams have actually qualified but also it clogs up the schedule and avoids complications next season when the euros are to happen.
there are certain things that have an obvious outcome such as Liverpool winning the league but there are too many uncertainties for it to be called as it stands. however that is just my opinion and the decision should as to what happens to the premier league should be made by the 20 premier league teams but it should not be financially motivated, which it will be.
i also heard this morning that Patrick thistle are naturally devastated about being relegated but cant afford to appeal the decision as it will end up putting them out of business.

17th April 2020 at 8:38 am #96147Hey Paxo, I trust you and the tribe are all good…
I’ve certainly said what I think will happen so I won’t bother repeating it, but I think I can guarantee (I’ll certainly bet a Mars Bar or two!) the only way they’ll cancel the Euro Cups is if footy/sport in general is still off the table. They’ve already lost/delayed the profits from Euro 2020 for a year, they’re not going to give up on the CL/EL money too… not without a fight.
The nearest I think they’ll get to being precitcal about it, is enlarging the squad sizes and/or possibly increasing subs per game (yay! more time wasting!)…. (unless they make the rule something like 3 during the match like now, and 2 at half time so no “extra” time wasting… I could live with that!)

17th April 2020 at 8:43 am #96148I can’t see any return to football whilst there are thousands of new Coronavirus cases every day and hundreds of deaths in the UK and that situation is reflected across Europe too.
Given the above it’s difficult to see currently how multiple Clubs with significant numbers of players and staff will be able to fly around Europe to complete the outstanding CL/EL games.

17th April 2020 at 10:12 am #96149“Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has asked Mauricio Pochettino to take a pay cut on the ยฃ8.5m-a-year salary that the club continue to pay the Argentine.
Pochettino was sacked last December and replaced by Jose Mourinho less than 24 hours later, bringing to an end the Argentineโs six years in north London.
Levy shared a close relationship with Pochettino and in sacking the Argentine, he agreed to pay his salary until he took up his next job.
Pochettino is one of the finest managers in world football and had been expected to make a quick return to management.
But with the coronavirus pandemic resulting in football being suspended across Europe, Pochettino can technically keep his payments coming for the foreseeable future.”
A number of newspapers are running with this if accurate I suspect the answer Levy will get will probably end in “off” from both Pochettino and his staff too who allegedly have been asked the same question.
Personally I suspect Levy is far too smart to believe he would get a positive response to the question but if accurate I guess it was worth asking the question.
