The optimism of life getting back to normal sooner rather than later can only be based on what is happening over in Wuhan China so what happens there over the next month will be a good yardstick but that is, if you believe everything they tell us.

10th April 2020 at 2:33 pm #95027AnonymousI think the league will long be voided/cancelled if we make it to Christmas and there is still no football. TBH, I’d give it 2-3 more months before it’s called off.
Sean is right, Klopp only has eyes for creating a legacy, not in the maintenance of one. If in that time, one of those giants becomes irrelevant then Klopp might be interested but until then, no chance.
I don’t see Klopp staying beyond 2024 but of course it’s impossible to accurately predict. I don’t think even he knows for sure but we have heard some of his thoughts on the matter and they suggest an early retirement.

10th April 2020 at 2:35 pm #95028So we get to Christmas and still no football then what do they do between January and next May if sport generally can restart say February?
I’ll leave you lot to it. Take care all.

10th April 2020 at 3:25 pm #9503167, if we get to Christmas with no sport at all then all bets are off.
By then though I think like Mak suggests above they will call all the European Leagues before then. But it’s all impossible to predict and you can’t rule anything out.
The ECA/UEFA letter is the plan they want to try and work to across Europe but I agree it still looks optimistic and if it doesn’t happen I think they will call it and the focus will be on trying to start a new season from circa October if possible.
Personally I don’t think there will be any appetite to restart the 2019/20 in 2021 and they will plump for a new Season well before then.
Most important thing though is to beat the virus and stay safe nothing else matters. Cheers 9’s

10th April 2020 at 4:04 pm #95033AnonymousKlopp has little interest in international football. He considers it to be like a retirement job. I’m not saying that he won’t do it, I imagine he will at some stage but it’ll either be while he already does club management (unlikely) or when he considers himself retired.
There is an interview out there somewhere, where Klopp says this kind of stuff. I haven’t seen it in a long time so I can’t remember exactly what he said but that’s the gist of it.
As for the Christmas thing… It is very interesting alright, I mean there wouldn’t be enough time to play a full season but there would still be time for something. I imagine they will fill whatever time they have with some form of tournament, or a number of them.
I do think we’ll have football back on before then though. Once the curve flattens and the demand on health infrastructure eases off, they’ll be able to play behind closed doors. That will likely happen within 2-3 months.

10th April 2020 at 5:30 pm #95036Mak I think klopp has said he wants to manage Germany. Nearly positive I read it somewhere. Direct quotes from him but I could be mistaken
Problem with international football is you donβt get enough time with the players. Klopp ideas can take years to get across.

10th April 2020 at 5:49 pm #95038AnonymousSean,I also remember him saying that you don’t get enough time with the players and I think it was this same interview where he also said that it’s a bit like retirement.
Its a very vague memory and of something that was said years ago.
Glad to hear the lockdown was extended. I think we’ve got a fairly good hand on things but complacency is our real worry. So many times we’ve talked about players getting complacent but this time it’s about us and we’ve got to remain vigilant and disciplined.
TBH, I’ve got to make a better personal effort. I am staying isolated but I am drinking too much and not getting enough exercise. I have kinda decided to amend this within the next few days. I’ve given myself til Sunday and then I get really serious.
Hope everyone is well though and that people aren’t going to visit friends and family.

10th April 2020 at 6:37 pm #95040AnonymousSean, I reckon Jose Mourinho has spent too long in club football, think his tactics would work in tournament football. Im not so sure Klopp is be best suited to Germany’s national team unless he adapted his style. All sides are regimented from youth up so the DFB might go for someone who’ll keep them at the top of the world game for another 20 years… could be an internal appointment. You may have him for a while yet and fingers crossed because he has transformed the British game.

10th April 2020 at 7:46 pm #95047Mak, I put that suggestion out because I think football will change a lot from a structural and financial aspect and they both may not like what transpires. The national teams would be a good option for them and closer to home

10th April 2020 at 7:55 pm #95048As a PS, just to get everyone talking. I think Pep and Klopp have brought more to the EPL than Wenger and SAF, the game is on a different level now. True both Wenger and SAF did uplift the game in there era but not to the level Liverpool and City are playing now. What happens in the future is anybody’s guess

11th April 2020 at 12:57 am #95052AnonymousI’m with Brian on this and not just because Liverpool are now ahead. When city made centurion, I said it many many times that we were watching the best PL side ever and as crazy as it sounds when I’m writing this, I think this Liverpool side is even better but not by much.
We could argue about this for days, so maybe it’s best to just air an opinion and let everyone have theirs but that’s mine. I know that some will say you have to win loads for a period of time but Im talking about the level of quality, not the legacy. I don’t know if Liverpool will get anywhere near the legacy of some of those Utd teams. The PL is just too competitive these days for any one team to dominate in the manner that utd did, so single season comparison and I say there’s no comparison outside of City and Liverpool. They are just on another level altogether.

11th April 2020 at 8:34 am #95282The genius of Ferguson was that he built three great Manchester United teams the first two were his outstanding teams for me his third team was just a very good team imo made even better by Ronaldo.
Fergie’s second great team won a PL, FA Cup, CL treble. Liverpool were being talked of doing the same a couple of months back but couldn’t I doubt it will be ever done again.
Impossible to say who has been the best PL team of all time there’s been a few great ones and time tends to cloud the memory of how good some of them were.
FERGIE’S FIRST GREAT MAN UNITED TEAM: 1992-1995
Key signing: Eric Cantona
Typical line-up: (4-4-2) GK Peter Schmeichel, LB Denis Irwin, RB Paul Parker, CB Steve Bruce CB Gary Pallister, CM Roy Keane, CM Paul Ince, LW Ryan Giggs, RW Andrei Kanchelskis, F Mark Hughes, F Eric Cantona.
Other key players: Brian McClair, Lee Sharpe, Bryan Robson
Glory season: 1993/94
Fergie’s first great Man United team peaked with their 1994 double success, the first time the club had won both major domestic honours in the same season. They led the Premier League from the fourth game to the finish, picking up 92 points from 42 games with a style of football that married exciting, fast attacking play β utilising the wings through Giggs and Kanchelskis β with a rugged edge epitomised by the beating heart of Ince and Keane in the midfield. Cantona was the conductor, as United beat Chelsea 4-0 in the FA Cup final ( a sad and very wet day the heavens cried.?) and only a shock defeat to Aston Villa in the League Cup final prevented what would have been a unique domestic treble.
FERGIE’S SECOND GREAT UNITED TEAM: 1995-1999
Key signing: Dwight Yorke
Typical line up: (4-4-2) GK Peter Schmeichel, LB Denis Irwin, RB Gary Neville, CB Jaap Stam, CB Ronny Johnsen, CM Roy Keane, CM Paul Scholes, LW Ryan Giggs, RW David Beckham, F Dwight Yorke, F Andy Cole
Other key players: Henning Berg, Phil Neville, Nicky Butt, Teddy Sheringham, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Glory season: 1998/99
While losing veterans like Eric Cantona, Steve Bruce and Gary Pallister over several seasons and selling the likes of Ince, Hughes and Kanchelskis, Fergie set about building his second great United side. The double was won again in 1996 with the emerging youth of Scholes, Beckham, Butt and the Neville brothers, while the title was retained β just β in 1997, as only a few of the 1994 side remained. At this time, Fergie and United were being taught some harsh lessons in the Champions League, but they learnt from their mistakes and with his young team maturing and a few key additions in the right positions, the club was ready for their finest hour. Jaap Stam added defensive class at the back and Dwight Yorke came in to provide an irresistible attacking force alongside Andy Cole, as United rode a roller coaster season to clinch the Premier League by a point from Arsenal, following it up with the FA Cup and β thanks to never-to-be-forgotten goals from Solskjaer and Sheringham β the Champions League.
FERGIE’S THIRD GREAT UNITED TEAM: 2006-2009
Key signing: Cristiano Ronaldo
Example line up (4-3-3/4-5-1 β note, Man United used a variety of players and formations during this era): GK Edwin van der Sar, LB Patrice Evra, RB Wes Brown, CB Nemanja Vidic, CB Rio Ferdinand, CM Michael Carrick, CM Paul Scholes, CM Anderson, RF Park Ji-sung, LF Wayne Rooney, F Cristiano Ronaldo
Other key players: John O’Shea, Darren Fletcher, Owen Hargreaves, Ryan Giggs, Nani, Carlos Tevez
Glory season: 2007/08
As first Arsenal and then Chelsea became the dominant force in England, some of the more premature pundits predicted that Fergie had had his day. Fools. With the signing of teenage talent Cristiano Ronaldo in 2003, followed by the arrival of Wayne Rooney in 2004, Fergie set about building his third great side at Old Trafford. Trophies like the FA Cup in 2004 and League Cup in 2006 kept the silverware coming in what were considered lean years for the club, but all the while the likes of van der Sar, Ferdinand, Vidic, Carrick, Rooney and Ronaldo were gelling with old hands like Scholes, Giggs and Wes Brown. Te result? In 2007 the Premier League title headed back to United. A chastening 3-0 semi-final defeat to AC Milan in the 2007 Champions League served as motivation the following season, as Fergie’s side swept to the final and beat Chelsea on penalties, giving them the sweetest of trophy doubles. (Not sweet for me though!?)
