Yes Sean there has been a one off $10,000 grant approved for struggling businesses which we will look into and also a fortnightly payment of $1,500 available to employees that have been stood down called a Job Keeper allowance which is paid via the Tax Office to the Employer. At the moment our restaurants are doing ok on take away and home delivery however time will tell how it goes as the virus takes hold. Maybe we will be closed down for safety reasons. The figures coming out of China suggest they have the virus beat already and apparently their economy has been kickstarted to produce medical equipment to the rest of the world that is suffering. You couldn’t make it up could you?

5th April 2020 at 11:19 am #92674AnonymousNine, you have to judge the society by the minority of idiots though, in this situation. It is these people that will ensure the virus spreads further. The UK is nothing like America though, which still has states that are dragging their feet with regards to isolating etc. I think Florida just announced limited isolation methods but will keep churches open… Morons. 100’s of thousands will die over there.
As for this whole furlough business, it’s definitely not cool of LFC to have done this and it just shouldn’t be tolerated. The club made a very solid profit this past year and the brand has increased, which is just as good. The tax payer shouldn’t be bailing out companies that are thriving. It’s more of the same shit that I’m pretty much constantly going on about at this stage. The wealthy are looked after and the common man can eat s***.

Of course which is why Matt Hancock has warned that all exercise outside the home will be prohibited if the minority don’t take heed of the rules.

5th April 2020 at 12:30 pm #92679AnonymousThe attitude from the PFA, players and clubs is nothing short of disgraceful. I now am willingly hoping that all go out of business so we can set something up for the fans. They’re not fit for purpose and are totally out of kilter with fans and what is happening in the country. Wayne Rooney showing why two years in the US is good for tax returns… what a plank.

5th April 2020 at 12:51 pm #92680442, I’m not so sure that you can totally blame the players, if they pay their taxes through PAYE, then they contribute quite a lot. As some of the highest paid individuals in the country if the decide to donate to the NHS or some other body to help the less fortunate in this difficult time then well done to them.
The thing that grates on me is the clubs have laid off their lowest paid staff who probably don’t have a great deal of savings to see them through this and furloughed them, but continued to pay the highest earners who have enough wealth to see them through their lifetime. Shame on the clubs who are content to pay players vast sums of money which must amount to millions a month whilst taking government money to pay their lowest paid employees …..Pagan

5th April 2020 at 2:11 pm #92683I truly hope Chelsea FC don’t go down the furloughing path for non playing staff.
Liverpool are not alone in furloughing but it’s a spectacular own goal by all the Club’s who have decided to tread this path especially the biggest and the most wealthy Clubs.
We can only hope that other Clubs including Chelsea FC don’t feel compelled to follow this path and the Government closes this particular loophole down asap to all PL Clubs at the very least.

5th April 2020 at 2:23 pm #9268467, I believe Australia has a minimum $1,000 fine much larger in certain States for all those not following the lockdown rules in Oz that’s the level of basic fine I think we should be implementing to those flouting the rules in the UK, which seems to have started to discourage Aussies from breaking the rules.
Perhaps that’s what is making the difference in Oz after so many ignored the Lockdown rules to go to Bondi Beach although even last weekend according to reports many flocked to Coogee?

5th April 2020 at 2:29 pm #926859, I think businesses should be made to justify why they have to furlough each individual, why their job doesn’t need to be done and why they can’t afford to keep them on, they should also have to explain what those they keep on do and why their job is essential to the business.
Football club wise, I would think the grounds staff would need to be kept on along with some admin staff. I could see it being difficult to justify keeping match day staff on when there’s no footy being played, but equally difficult to justify the players being kept on.
It’s also going to be a bitter pill for those that are furloughed by their club, being told by your employer that they haven’t got the money to pay them, to then see them a few months down the road spend tens if not hundreds of millions in the transfer window…..Pagan

5th April 2020 at 2:31 pm #92686Was deeply disappointed to read Liverpool have put their non playing staff on furlough, but then read the staff will receive 100% of the wages. I then read that LFC can claim back 80% of the wages from the government. Does this mean we will be paying 80% of liverpool’s non playing staffs wages? I apologise if the answer is obvious, this is all very new to me. My friend works as a mixologist for the Marriott hotel chain in the US. He’s been put on furlough and receives 1 day a week pay.

5th April 2020 at 2:51 pm #92689Harry, what it means as I understand it is the Government will pay 80% of the wages of Liverpool staff up to a maximum of £2,500 and the Club will too up the 20% difference during the period of furloughing those employees are not allowed to work for the Club.

5th April 2020 at 2:59 pm #92691Pagan, the simple truth is that the Government’s furloughing rules of up to £2,500 a month were never intended for mega rich PL football Clubs and the Club’s are exploiting something they shouldn’t be exploiting.
It will add insult to injury for UK taxpayers if the Club’s involved in furloughing go out and spend extravagantly in the Summer transfer market when it opens.

5th April 2020 at 3:10 pm #92693“Manchester City have confirmed they won’t be following the lead set by Liverpool and Tottenham by furloughing staff during the coronavirus pandemic.
Premier League champions-elect Liverpool have endured widespread condemnation after announcing they would make use of government aid set up as a result of Covid-19.
But City have assured their staff they will face no such measures after the decision was ratified by the board of directors.
A spokesperson said: “We can confirm, following a decision by the Chairman and Board last week, that Manchester City will not be utilising the UK Government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (government funded furloughing).” Evening Standard 5/04
Good on City!

5th April 2020 at 6:13 pm #92699Kyle Walker faces disciplinary action from Manchester City after reportedly breaking lockdown rules by hosting a party involving two sex workers.
Walker, 29, has apologised and urged people to “stay home, stay safe” during the coronavirus pandemic.
In a statement, City said the England defender’s actions had “directly contravened” his responsibility as a role model.
It added that the club would be holding an investigation

5th April 2020 at 6:55 pm #92700AnonymousPagan, I was just furious with Rooney’s comments. I do understand his argument, the whole PAYE, but its coming from a man with no brain. There could well be no future football in its current structure after June. I dont think it is possible to go back to the old structure… Advertisers, sponsors, everyone is going to be hit, its not the top end clubs that will go to the wall. It is the lower leagues who have about a months cash flow or less. Club players could literally dip into their pockets to pay the kit man, or the tea lady a weeks wages and it wouldn’t even dent their salary. I think Juve have to be applauded for setting the mark.
Essentially, it shows that players dont care about the clubs, the fans or more importantly, the team behind them who enable them to have the pampered lives they lead.
Down the leagues, players use the money to support families and very modest lives. I just dont care what that Shrek twat thinks or says anymore – what a nob.
