HH, integrity, is whatโs morally right, not necessarily whatโs in the rules. In the end the leagues will do what protects them the most from law suits, money talks, morality walks…..Pagan

4th April 2020 at 4:20 pm #92645“Liverpool have announced they have placed some non-playing staff on furlough as the Premier League remains suspended due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Around 200 staff, whose work is effectively idle during the Premier League suspension, have been furloughed.
The announcement comes as Premier League clubs are meeting with representatives of players and managers to discuss possible wage cuts for first-team staff.
A Liverpool club statement said: “The club have confirmed those staff will be paid 100 per cent of their salaries to ensure no member of staff is financially disadvantaged.”
Liverpool aren’t the first but it’s just plain wrong imo that the richest Clubs in the PL.are using taxpayers money to pay their non playing staff.
I hope this tactic doesn’t spread any further and the Government manage to put a stop to it asap.

4th April 2020 at 4:26 pm #92646“SPFL clubs have scheduled crisis talks for early next week as they ponder whether to declare the Scottish season over due to the coronavirus crisis.
The board of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League yesterday became the first major league in the continent to scrap their league season, making Club Bruges – who held a 15-point lead over Gent at the top of the table – champions.
Celtic could be declared champions next week and now Scotland could follow suit, and hand a ninth successive top flight title to Celtic, who currently lead rivals Rangers by 13 points having played a game more.
Like the Belgian example, any decision to call off the league would be a board decision in the first instance, which would then be ratified by the clubs’ rank and file.
While it remains unclear whether the decision to relegate Hearts from the Premiership and Partick Thistle from the Championship would automatically follow, the Daily Record says the Belgian solution will be “top of the agenda” as the board meets on Monday ahead of a series of conference calls on Tuesday with the four divisions.
And they claim that an alternative option to โnull and voidโ the entire 2019-20 campaign will NOT be on the table.
Uefa are keen that all domestic leagues are played to a finish, scrapping their deadlines for next season at a meeting of all 55 member clubs on Wednesday.
They have claimed that league bodies who decide to ‘null and void’ their campaigns could be threatening the chance of our teams to play in Europe.
SPFL bosses remain hugely sceptical of the revised timetable, with even Uefa’s proposed revised timetable only taking them through to late July.” ???
Derek McInnes believes if this season cannot be played to a finish, awarding Celtic the title makes ‘common sense’ with their dominant lead at the Premiership summit.
The Aberdeen boss hopes to see the current term concluded, but concedes it’s not looking likely as the chaos from the coronavirus pandemic continues.
That would leave some ‘tough’ decisions according to McInnes, but believes Celtic would be worthy champions with their 13 point lead over Rangers.
He told BBC Sportsound: “If there’s a way this can be finished, we need to not give up on that too soon.
“That is the hope, but we’re all realistic enough to know that, as the weeks go by, it’s becoming less likely.
“There’s going to be some tough decisions made if that is going to be the case, it’s not going to please everyone.
“Ultimately, that decision will have to be made if this is going to continue as long as expected.
“If Rangers and Celtic were closer to each other it’d be an even tougher decision.
“I think the likelihood is Celtic would go on and win the league.
“I think maybe that decision – if we can’t get the league finished – is, unless you’re a Rangers supporter, might be easier to deal with and see a lot of common sense in that.”
McInnes, however, feels it would be harsh on the likes of bottom placed Hearts to be relegated and would be open to a 14-team league as an alternative solution.
The Pittodrie gaffer also criticised UEFA’s letter to the 55 leagues across Europe on Friday.
The governing body warned members that if their season is not concluded, participation in the Champions League and Europa League could be jeopardised.
He added: “Hearts still had the ability to get themselves out of trouble. Obviously, they’ve been bottom of the league for a while, or in and around it.
“I don’t want to see Hearts relegated. They’re a fantastic club who can offer so much to the league.
“The alternative, I’m sure everybody’s looking at it, there’s a few things on the table – whether it’s a 14-team league next season or whether we have to announce the champions and the team that’s relegated.”

4th April 2020 at 5:01 pm #926499, with there being no footy played at the moment, then it stands to reason the players are currently as unimportant to the clubs as the match day staff, maybe they should be furloughed too…Pagan

4th April 2020 at 6:32 pm #92651Nine, totally agree. I see we are covering the extra 20% but Iโm very disappointed with the club and we be slaughtered over this.
They will get their full salaries but disappointed we didnโt cover the whole ourselves
Why arenโt players taking pay cuts?

4th April 2020 at 6:58 pm #92653“Earlier this week, Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy announced that 550 of the clubโs employees will be paid 80 per cent of their salary for the next two months, with the Governmentโs furlough scheme utilised where possible.
The Telegraph claimed that employees were given just 30 minutes notice prior to the pubic announcement when Levy sent out an email to all of the clubโs non-playing staff informing them of the decision.
Levyโs decision has come in from widespread criticism with the former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp blasting the chairman for cutting the wage of non-playing staff while the playing staff continue to receive their mega money (The Sun).
The Daily Mail claim that Spurs went a step further by disabling the email accounts and confiscated phones and laptops to stop staff who have been furloughed from doing any work whilst away from the club, which would have breached the terms of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.”

4th April 2020 at 8:34 pm #92655I think Spurs have cash issues with no money coming in and a new stadium to pay for.
What I cant get over is players being paid millions for doing nothing. Despite the media I think that many clubs like many other businesses are going to have real problems due to such a fall in revenue. We are going to see a very deep recession which will take years to get out of. The days of football billions may well be over? Gone will be mediocre players costing tens of millions earning millions. Only the very best will cost huge sums. The concept of FFP will have to be re-thought giving much more emphasis to debt:equity relationship and less on turnover.

4th April 2020 at 10:49 pm #92657Fair play though Sean like you lots of Liverpool fans are criticising the Club too. I guess the Government didn’t think that the top PL Clubs would try and take advantage of furloughing. Whether the Government can do anything about it though is open to conjecture.
Pagan, if it comes to it I don’t think the PL will void the Season I think they will do what the SPL are seemingly proposing to do and end the season as it stands curtailing it and calling
it force majeure but I guess it will finally come down to all the legal ramifications.I’m sure there’s a deal to be done between the PL and Sky/BT Sport along the lines of giving the broadcasters more games to cover free of charge from next season to compensate for the games lost meaning that loss wouldn’t necessarily exist and the papers were talking up Sky and BT wanting extra games today.
What both Sky and BT need more than the monies paid back is to retain and build on their subscribers when football returns and more games would help them doing that but we’ll see.

5th April 2020 at 1:53 am #92660AnonymousIn situations like these, it’s always the rich who get the the most “welfare”. Banks and businesses getting absolutely whopping bail outs but often (not in this situation though I think), it’s the common man who eats s*** for it.
The players should not only take a pay cut, they should be doing more to help the people who pay their salaries. It’s easy for me to say sure but these people will not really be financially tested through out this.
I won’t go on about it like I did last night, you can all guess what I’m thinking on the various related topics. I am disappointed that the clubs are allowed to kinda abandon their staff to government intervention. It shouldn’t be allowed unless you’re looking at a very serious situation for these clubs.
They aren’t making money right now but they are not poor, in general and they can foot the bill, so why aren’t they?

5th April 2020 at 7:07 am #92662Having thought about the situation, weโve been very quick to have a go at the players for not taking a pay cut, why should they get the choice to do so? I think you have to look at the clubs themselves, they didnโt give the everyday employee a choice, they just furloughed them, why should the players get treated any differently, itโs almost as if the clubs are scared of them, a taste of reality may just do some of them some good……Pagan

5th April 2020 at 8:32 am #92664Posted earlier. amended it twice and it disappeared for whatever reason so not going to start again. Simply I will say take care guys. It looks like the data is starting to spike there in the Old Dart so stay home and stay safe whatever you all do. The figures in Australia, for now are as good as we could have hoped but our spike will come in time, no doubt.

5th April 2020 at 8:59 am #92665Pagan, tbh there don’t seem to be any League rules to cover finishing the League, finishing the PL by June 1st was seemingly in the rules but that has been overridden. Money will I’m sure come into it it always does.
UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin is now quoted as saying if the CL and the EL can’t be completed by August 3rd they will be lost.
I don’t think football as a whole will be prepared to let this go on indefinitely which would also have financial implications on next season too but there is no certainty about anything currently and as the death toll climbs when we might restart football seems less and less important.
“By the 3rd of August both tournaments must have been completed. We’re in a situation which is unprecedented and we have to be flexible; we could play on the same days as the local leagues – even at the same time. We have several different plans for restarting the Champions League and the Europa League in May, June, July and there is even the possibility that the remaining matches won’t be played at all. It all depends on the respective governments in every country and whether they will allow the tournaments to be completed – if they say no football matches can be played, there is nothing we can do. By September or October it will be too late,” Cerefin explained in an interview with German TV channel ZDF.

5th April 2020 at 10:43 am #92670Sean, don’t judge the UK based on a minority of idiots the vast majority of people in the UK are totally responsible and following the rules to the letter and the Streets, Towns and Cities are empty.
As Matt Hancock has rightly said if people keep flouting the rules by sunbathing in parks and on beaches etc the lockdown will become more severe.
Heathrow hasn’t closed down one runway has c!osed down due to a malfunction.
On the positive side reported cases dropped yesterday but we need a continuation of that to see some light. Stay safe buddie. Cheers 9’s
