“Word is Henderson is organising money from each club through their captains for nhs. Supposed to be in millions. Not sure how true that is”
I really hope so Sean. Even the footballers though, they can only help so much. Gates is one great billionaire and Musk provided 1000 ventilators, even though he actually doubted the seriousness of the virus. Has Bezos done anything? These guys largely have their money working already but at the drop of a hat even just one of them could do more than every PL player combined. It wouldn’t even be close.
Maybe it’s time that we changed our laws in order to put society first. I’m not sure how you could do it without infringing on peoples right to make money but there has to be a way that is better than this. In fact, it’s our terrible response to this disease that gets me down more than anything. it just confirms my lack of faith in humanity.
again sorry for bringing things down. I’ll stop now.

3rd April 2020 at 8:04 pm #92618Mak no bother at all mate. You have your opinion which is totally fine.
What I hope happens is…. we get to play our final games and win the league outright. If this affects next season so what. The league has to be finished. You can’t just void it after playing for nearly 8 months but that’s just my view
Anyone calling for null and void is everyone but liveroool, Leeds, wba, Portsmouth, Rotherham fans etc.
Again just my opinion. Time will tell
The whole world is going to be effected by tvis. Jobs lost, families absolutely distraught
We will go months without football so what does it matter what happens next season really?who cares. Get this one finished and worry about next season when we have to

We share the same view though really. I also hope for it to be replayed and agree with all of this, I guess where things diverge is that I see an inflexibility for a number of reasons. I would stagger this disruption over a few season if needs be. I would definitely prefer out of all eventualities, for the seaosn to be played out but I don’t think I see it happening.
In this eventuality though, I want the title and all other things earned by other teams, so far to be awarded. It’s not given or anything but ya, I was kinda worried that you were in favour of folding the royal flush and moving onto the next hand. I see that that is not the case.
The knock on effects from this virus won’t be good in most ways but in tohers, it may be a kick up the arse for society. Sometimes we need a little reminder of how we shouldn’t let things slip. I mean look at America now.. Trump is on record for saying so many ridiculous things, writing this cirus off as nothing that will just go away.. then later he said he called it a pandemic before anyone else.
This is the man who dismantled the pandemic specialist unit that Obama set up. He then said he had no warning and that he inherited this. Had I not known the American sociology-political climate better, I’d say there’s no way out of this for him… I still think he has a good chance of washing the 100k+ dead off his hands though but it remains a warning to us all that if we vote for morons, they might get us killed. It’s natural selection on a large scale but unfortunately it’s usually the innocent who get hurt by it.
It’s absolutely and literally criminal what Trump and even Boris have done. I would not vote for the party leading my own government and I’d be slow to hand out praise in most situation but holy hell, I’m glad we have an actual leader who has more than his own narcissistic nonsense at heart. I still almost certainly will not vote for the man when the next election comes but he’s earned my respect.

3rd April 2020 at 8:34 pm #92621I think we should all just try and stick with the latest PL official statement:
“It was acknowledged that the Premier League will not resume at the beginning of May – and that the 2019/20 season will only return when it is safe and appropriate to do so.
The restart date is under constant review with all stakeholders, as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic develops and we work together through this very challenging time.
The Premier League is working closely with the whole of professional football in this country, as well as with the Government, public agencies and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the game achieves a collaborative solution.
With this, there is a combined objective for all remaining domestic league and cup matches to be played, enabling us to maintain the integrity of each competition.
However, any return to play will only be with the full support of the Government and when medical guidance allows.”
Anything outside that in terms of how if and when the PL might recommence is just pure guess work.
Stay safe all that’s what’s really important now.

3rd April 2020 at 9:03 pm #92622For myself it’s all a bit surreal, this time of year it’s usually trying to maintain interest in footy whilst really looking forward to the start of the cricket season. To be totally honest I have no interest in footy at the moment, and I’m just hoping at sometime in the summer we get to play a little bit of cricket.
Obviously there’s more pressing things happening in the world, and sport has had to take a back seat, let’s just hope the Footydebate family can come through this unscathed….Pagan

3rd April 2020 at 9:24 pm #92623Pagan, funny thing is I haven’t even missed football. I haven’t thought about it much to be honest.
It’s hard to fathom what is going on now. I’ll be ready for the football when it finally does return. It will be a good time as it’s means all tvis will be over

4th April 2020 at 12:55 am #92625AnonymousA pretty thoughtful statement from the PL. It’s always nice to see a touch of class.
Sean, I remember what you’ve said in the past and I am in line, at times. I don’t think of football in terms of waiting for the next match but I do think about what this team has already done and what I feel they deserve. This virus is something I’ve taken seriously from day 1 but it hasn’t yet been a matter for my every waking thought. I’m doing my part and so far uninfected. As long as that remains the same, I’ll still want to think about other things and it;s just like life in general, we want outs.
I definitely have started caring more, the more I’ve heard about a voided season. The PL speak of integrity and I hope they will stand by their words on this. I won’t tell you that you should care what happens right now or even in the near future but for me, the integrity of the PL dies if they void the season and don’t award us what we’ve already earned.
I did take exception when Chucky claimed I was only interested in what was fair but in sporting terms, is this a bad thing? Some people let their bitterness get the better of them. Next year is your year chucky.

Such a wonderful and meaningful line Sean.
Like Pagan I have no interest in football currently but when football does finally return the very best thing about it as you so succinctly expressed it is that “It will be a good time as it’s means all this will be over”.
As Pagan said “let’s just hope the Footydebate family can come through this unscathed….”
These are very scary times. Stay safe all .

4th April 2020 at 10:24 am #92629That’s it nine. Ive no real interest in discussing anything about football. I’m an active member of tt lfc page but haven’t posted since the Bournemouth game
I can’t discuss the future when I don’t know what is happening. No interest in who we are looking to sign etc
Mak, this will all be dealt with at some stage mate. There is no point worrying about it.
Watched a harrowing program in sky Atlantic about a hospital in Bergamo. Really sad times.

4th April 2020 at 2:21 pm #92635Found this on the BBC News site
“So far 3,605 people have died in the UK, according to figures released on Friday. Prof Ferguson said: “We want to move to a situation where at least by the end of May that we’re able to substitute some less intensive measures, more based on technology and testing, for the complete lockdown we have now”
So they’re expecting at least another 8 weeks of lockdown☹️☹️☹️…..Pagan

4th April 2020 at 2:51 pm #92636Pagan. At least another couple of months. 708 more deaths today. Now well over4000 and climbing.
This time next week…heaven knows could be 10,000.My daughter is dietician working in the main hospital in Cardiff and her patients include those with Covid-19. She has not been tested and the only PPE is a surgical face mask which provides v limited protection. Its an absolute disgrace. What we hear are excuses from the govt and promises. We are a rich country…arent we?

4th April 2020 at 2:54 pm #92637Pagan, tbh I was anticipating the end of May at least I wouldn’t rule it out going even longer yet and I wouldn’t rule out it getting a bit more severe too before then.
When it is lifted I suspect it might happen in age and vulnerable sectors.
To have a chance of the current season getting done in July and August which is seemingly the current plan the players will need a 2/3 week pre season which means the lockdown needs to be lifted around the end of May beginning of June???
Very excited that this evening we are having a Zoom all encompassing family meet up not the same as seeing them all in person but still great that we will be able to get together.

4th April 2020 at 2:55 pm #92638Adlab, we may be a rich country, but we no longer really manufacture much. Every country is in the same boat with this virus, the country’s that make the PPE will only sell their surplus…..Pagan

4th April 2020 at 3:13 pm #92640Cases have gone down today in the UK which is a small glimmer of hope.
US Open looks like being postponed:
“According to the New York Post, the US Open is set to become the third golf major championship to be pushed back.
It is claimed the tournament at Winged Foot will not be played in June as planned, instead the hope is to host the US Open later in the year.
“[We] remain hopeful about late in the summer, [maybe] early September,” a source told the New York Post.” ??? Daily Express

Ridiculous and the longer people don’t abide to the rules, the more people will die and this will go on.

4th April 2020 at 3:18 pm #92642While I absolutely agree that there are far more important things than football right now, I don’t understand why people are worried about finishing this season having an impact on next season, i.e a season that hasn’t even started yet. For the integrity of the league, the current season has to be finished before the next can start. Even it means that next season is a shortened season i.e. no cup competitions or even a season where each team only play each other once, then so be it. The rules would be the same for everyone. How can next season already be more important than the season we are only 80% through?
By the way, my comment of a few weeks ago (I can’t remember exactly when) that I couldn’t help feeling that everyone was overreacting to the virus now appears facile and unthought through. So, my apologies for that. Like many of us on here I guess, I have a mother with COPD aged 85, living on her own who I now haven’t seen since the 7th March. Daily telephone calls are one thing, but I can only imagine how frightened the especially vulnerable are. I hope all are well, and my thanks and huge respect to all those who are both fighting on the front line against the virus, and also other essential workers who are keeping the country running in so many other ways.
