No Club will earn their planned Sponsorship monies whilst there is no football and limited exposure of the brand’s be it Manchester United or Southend United although United will probably suffer less. By nobody is going to dodge the effects of this.
And the Government needs to quickly stifle this furloughing from the big PL Clubs that’s not it was designed for or what taxpayers money should be used for.

2nd April 2020 at 3:08 pm #92568Mak, to be fair Chucky’s last comment on this was “And just so we’re all clear, I’m in the “would love to see the last 9 games played, but not if they’re going to have a major impact on next season” camp.”
Tbh with all due respect to Liverpool who deserve to be Champions I’m with Chucky on the above.
I don’t think there are too many on here saying Liverpool shouldn’t be crowned Champions personally I definitely think they should be even if the season is ultimately cancelled.
Unfortunately this subject seems to cause a bit of upset and given that none of us have a clue as to how this is all going to end or any influence on it whatsoever and given the enormity of Coronavirus it is probably best parked for now until we get a clearer picture as to when football “really” might be able to be reintroduced goodness knows when that might be though. Cheers 9’s

2nd April 2020 at 3:19 pm #92573AnonymousPagan, unlike you, our cricket club ceased two seasons ago. Work and family commitments overtook the need to spend a day getting wrecked on the outfield and clubhouse together.
We kept it going for ten years… But we all have a club WhatsApp group and some of it makes my toes curl. Toured to Slovenia, Cyprus among other places… We based in Barn elms and travelled through Surrey after picking up a fixture list from another club that went the same way as ours a decade before us. Some lovely grounds In rural Hampshire too.
It was all about the match teas and we will probably have a game the end of the summer with a local Wandsworth club we keep in touch with. You inn London? Perhaps we could arrange a game between the clubs… although, you’ll skittle us out probably for under 100 runs! We encourage some Jager bombs before batting to steady the nerves, especially if the opponent have a left arm medium paced spinner…

2nd April 2020 at 3:39 pm #92575I want to distance myself as far as possible from what Daniel Levy has done with the non-playing staff , disgraceful conduct from our chairman. Why can’t our players make up any shortfall the non-playing staff may forego, it’s not as if they can’t afford it, probably got that down much the back of their sofas .

2nd April 2020 at 3:58 pm #92576Adlab-Honestly mate, wish this situation could lead to Utd not being able to sign any player/s worth more than £15m,and to make us like Lille or Atletic Bilbao, and produce our own talents every year.I really hope it will put an stop to buying players like Maguire,Pogba,Sanchez, etc, etc.
ps:Pogba for 200.000.000,maybe Russian rubles,lol

2nd April 2020 at 4:13 pm #92577Shape of things to come!
Club Bruges beat Cercle Bruges 2-1 on 7 March in their last league game before football in Belgium was suspended
The Belgian Pro League is set to become the first major European league to be cancelled because of coronavirus.Club Bruges will be declared champions with the current league table set to stand.
There was one match of the regular season remaining when the league was suspended, with play-offs due to decide the top positions.
The league’s board of directors made the decision and have made a recommendation to the general assembly.
It will be made official on 15 April with a working group to decide relegation and promotion issues.
Club Brugge are 15 points clear of second-placed Gent at the top of the table.
In a statement, the league said: “The board of directors unanimously decided that it was not desirable, whatever the scenario envisaged, to continue the competition after 30 June

2nd April 2020 at 4:18 pm #92579442, I’m based on the Notts/Derbyshire border, the kids play for Sandiacre Town CC (est. 1877) who have been the most successful team in Derbyshire this century, two national cups, one at Lords the other at Bristol. My two have been there since Kwiks and are both playing for the seconds/thirds at the moment. The youngest also plays for County at her age group and an open age Women’s team.
Teas in the league are also very competitive, but as a club we tend to be at the top of that as well. The firsts and seconds keep trying to poach our tea lady but she’s staying loyal to the thirds, it helps that she’s the wife though.
As for tours, the youngest was meant to be off to Sri Lanka this winter, that’s probably not going to happen this year now, so hopefully they’ll try again next year…Pagan

2nd April 2020 at 4:24 pm #92581I don’t think the problem is specifically Liverpool being made champions, it’s the fact if you do that then everybody else has to be given the finishing place they currently sit in in order to treat everyone the same, and that means relegation for the current bottom three….Pagan

2nd April 2020 at 4:47 pm #92582Pagan, “The firsts and seconds keep trying to poach our tea lady but she’s staying loyal to the thirds, it helps that she’s the wife though.” Ha, ha brilliant stuff mate we need more like this.?
I don’t want to get to drawn into another debate on what needs to happen but very briefly on the point you make they could if the League was frozen find a way out at the bottom of the PL and the top of the Championship by not to relegating anyone and promoting WBA and Leeds and then play with a 22 PL next season and relegate 5.
On the Cricket I used to play for Teddington Cricket Club in Bushy Park. Loved it especially the teas.? Got tougher when I got married and children came along though. Played the odd game into my 40’s though for my Company I ended up as a murder suspect because of it though but that’s another story.

2nd April 2020 at 5:18 pm #92584“Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee chair Julian Knight has urged to impose a windfall tax on Premier League sides refusing to cut salaries of top-earning players while other staff are on furlough. Football will not return until April 30 at the very earliest due to the coronavirus pandemic. Numerous Premier League clubs have put non-playing staff on furlough, despite players continuing to earn millions.
Players are under pressure to take pay cuts as non-playing staff take the hit during the coronavirus pandemic.
And Knight has urged the Chancellor to bring in sanctions against any Premier League club that follow the ‘two-tier system’ of playing and non-playing staff.
A windfall tax could see the Government reimburse non-playing staff for loss of earnings.
Knight wrote to Premier League CEO Richard Masters and Chancellor of the Exchequer Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP in a bid to enforce the tax.
Knight MP said: “We are facing an obscene situation where top players who aren’t working are continuing to see hundreds of thousands of pounds roll in each week while the staff who keep the clubs going are losing wages.
“If the Premier League isn’t going to act to resolve this crisis then the Government must step in by imposing a significant financial penalty on clubs to reimburse those hit hardest in the pocket.” Daily Express
Good on Julian Knight.

2nd April 2020 at 5:22 pm #925869, to be honest, it’s not the fact that she’s the wife that keeps her loyal to the thirds, that’s just me trying to make myself feel better, it’s more the fact that both our kids play for them, I’m sure that when they make the step up to the seconds she’ll go with them……Pagan

That’s quite a funny statement 9, the fact you mention Manchester United in regards to sponsorship and then name a major competitor of them……Pagan
