Adlab, yeah I agree the testing situation is still taking too long that apart although I think we could have instigated the lockdown a bit earlier I think the Government is doing pretty much all they can do guided by the medical experts.
Sean does raise good points about the hardware stores and the tube though.
London is a very transient City with people from all Countries passing through it which points as to why London is probably faring worse than other areas of the UK.
The next step is a complete lockdown which I don’t think is far away.

1st April 2020 at 10:57 pm #92543AnonymousSean, hardware stores are needed mate, one to buy protective masks for workers who will have to enter homes to clear out dead folk… and contracts with cleaning companies are now more valuable than ever, two, millions at home mean more heating and boilers going bust and stop cocks needing turning and things needing to be mended and makeshift hospitals have had to be fashioned and built.
Milton Keynes ice rink remains open, but only for arrivals to remain chilled should it be necessary. that’ll be a difficult rebrand when this is over for the lightening who play there.
It really is another way of thinking… many of the venues that are being used have all had contingency planning applied to them years in advance or considerations taken into account when planning and building them. You’ll often hear the media refer to Cobra during times of crisis. Its a simple briefing essentially with people heading up departments who have all been employed to create responses to situations like this and relay that to our PM who is suffering a nasty bout of herd immunity. My guess, theyre playing out from some sort of CBRN scenario as the abbreviation would suggest. There are different contingencies for the level of severity. On my level of severity, id argue corona is fumbling around with our belts trying to pull our pants down… Boris is so effective at being a buffoon, he could have infected his entire cabinet…

2nd April 2020 at 8:54 am #92544Fair points 442 but people are going in and buying paint and non essential items mate.
Everything is closed over here. You canβt leave within 2km of your house.
Strict rules are in place when shopping. People are really taking it seriously now bit of course you still have some fools who are being idiots.
Italy is nearly its 4th week. Has there been any improvement? My fear is the uk is going to go down Italyβs road. The numbers are just unbelievable. So many people dying. I canβt see this ending for months.
Ireland has been on some kind of shutdown for nearly 3 weeks and the numbers are rising. Itβs scary
What do people make of all these 5g rumours. They are disguising the poles in trees over here.

2nd April 2020 at 9:57 am #92546AnonymousSean, keep breathing mate, sup in the good old lung nectar and follow the advice and avoid rumours hearsay and conspiracy theories for nothing more than your own sanity. Im in a partial Lock down in Turkey where cases are raising, and the city is quiet as its all self isolating at the minute. Istanbul being the epicentre of the outbreak right now… I cant drive or fly back to the UK should anything happen and my folks who are in the age category with health concerns. Its worrying for all my friends back in the UK except for my cricket team who are keeping spirits high with risky WhatsApp messages and dark humour.
I’ve been phoning friends Ive not spoken to in years to check up on them, ive been learning new skills on editing software, been building a business pack to send out when this eventually clears, and lots of cleaning and Netflix and Ive started to do mini fitness circuits in my living room.
There is nothing more we can do besides watch the financial markets rock and roll and sit this one out. Given that business are being made to pay rent in or have it deferred is just going to kill off the high street. To everyone everywhere, keep your minds busy, hope this doesn’t affect you and we can get on with deciding the premier league… if clubs remain in business through this. I see the PFA is being rather callous at the minute.

2nd April 2020 at 10:35 am #92548442, cricket looks unlikely this summer, was particularly looking forward to it as I wonβt be playing anymore as the club has plenty of juniors now wanting to play senior cricket, so days sat in the sun watching a game, usually with one or both of my kids in was something I was looking forward to.
So whereβs your home club based?

2nd April 2020 at 10:48 am #92549Sean,you would be wrong to think people aren’t taking it seriously over here bar a few idiots everyone is taking it very seriously Supermarkets are limiting how many can be in the store and invariably you have to queue to get in now at 6ft distances only one shopper per trolley.
Goods are being limited to stop panic buying. We’ve seen no family or friends in 4 weeks and family wise we are just video calling via What’s App and that situation is typical of the majority.
People aren’t going out other than for very brief exercise once a day and the towns and Cities are deserted.
You have to queue at Pharmacies for your prescriptions again at 6ft distances sometimes for up to 2 hours.
The UK probably went a bit late on the lockdown but we weren’t alone there and we’re still struggling to get the right quantity of testing kits but again we’re not alone there.
Overall I think the Government has done a half decent job in very difficult circumstances guided primarily by the experts albeit they’ve made the odd mistake along the way. I can see the Lockdown being made stricter though and I can’t see it being lifted anytime soon.

2nd April 2020 at 10:57 am #92551“It is safe to say that when the Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced the governmentβs job retention scheme during this coronavirus pandemic he did not intend it to be exploited by the eighth richest football club in the world.
That Tottenham Hotspur announced they were furloughing the 550 non-football staff on the day it was also revealed chairman Daniel Levyβs pay had gone up to an extraordinary Β£7million, including a Β£3m bonus for opening a stadium eight months late and hugely over budget, was bad enough. In fact it was stunningly bad.
But it also came as research was published claiming that between 800,000 and a million businesses nationwide may soon have to close because they are unlikely to get the cash they need to survive in the next four weeks.” Jason Burt The Daily Telegraph.
Spurs aren’t the only Club but the Government needs to try and close this loophole which clearly wasn’t meant for Football Clubs paying their players up to Β£200k pw with their CEO earning Β£7m pa.

2nd April 2020 at 11:27 am #92552Nine, I think it is being taken seriously mate but more can be done
Uk are testing 8k a dayGermany 500k a week. Is that because uk are waiting on kits? I think itβs the same here to be honest mate.
442, ah Iβm fine mate. Iβm busy. Two kids, working from home and Iβm a fitness freak so I get my jog done early doors and do online classes with my cousin who owns a gym.
Iβm just really talking about how badly this is escalating and lockdown wonβt be for two or three weeks. It will be for a good while. A good few months maybe.

2nd April 2020 at 12:23 pm #92555Let’s see…
PFA Boss tells players not to take pay-cuts despite many clubs “furlugh”ing non-playing staff…
While the bookies plan a “virtul” Grand National with all profits going to the NHS…
Own goal by the footy breigade there, me thinks!

2nd April 2020 at 12:38 pm #92557Eddie Large dies of Corona virus.
“The Little and Large comedian, who is best known for his partnership with Syd Little, had been in hospital with heart failure, before contracting the deadly Covid-19 virus. His son, Ryan McGinnis, posted on Facebook: βIt is with great sadness that Mum and I need to announce that my dad passed away in the early hours of this morning. βHe had been suffering with heart failure and unfortunately, whilst in hospital, contracted the coronavirus, which his heart was sadly not strong enough to fight. βDad had fought bravely for so long. Due to this horrible disease we had been unable to visit him at the hospital but all of the family and close friends spoke to him every day. βWe will miss him terribly and we are so proud of everything he achieved in his career with Syd and know that he was much loved by the millions that watched them each week.”
Shame nice man who lived where we do often saw him in his City tracksuit top he loved his football unfortunately he’s not been well for a while now after tripping over a hole in the pavement. He bought a lot of fun and laughter to Saturday nights. RIP

2nd April 2020 at 12:58 pm #92558Sean, the non availability of the testing kits is both a problem as well as a bit of a mystery mate I’m no expert but I think there’s probably more than one reason. Germany were seemingly ahead of the game though.
However as you pointed out its not just a UK problem even the US has been struggling which suggests it’s not that easy to solve.

2nd April 2020 at 2:09 pm #92559Anonymous“And yes, spitting your dummy out doesnβt help matters when it appears your only footballing concern is making sure LiVARberoOol get their hands on the pot. ”
Stopping responding to your obvious bitter bias is not the same as throwing a tantrum. I’d say it’s the exact opposite. As for me only being concerned with Liverpool, I’ve spoken about all the other clubs who will be strongly affected and offered fair solutions to them.
The crux of the matter with you and it’s very clear in everything you’ve said is that you just want this title to be taken away from Liverpool. Your whole shtick oozes bitterness that comes from last seasons CL final and the subsequent implosion of what was a really good team.
It’s not my fault Chucky, that we won the CL and your team collapsed into rubble. It’s getting in the way of your objectivity though. You’re damn right though that I want what’s fair for Liverpool. As Threeps said, it’s about the integrity of the sport, a team is competing for something or they aren’t. If we aren’t competing for the title this season then what is next season worth? Nothing, I say. It has no value if it doesn’t have integrity. Honestly, the bitters on here and everywhere else think they are playing Football Manager, loading up the old save and trying again.

2nd April 2020 at 2:21 pm #92560Written by somebody without any financial understanding whatsoever.
Utd’s latest quarter 2 results show a modest profit Β£36m for the 6m to Dec 2019 before dividend payments. Qtr 3 &4 will have significanly reduced revenue likely as not to give an overall annual loss. In addition they have debt of nearly half a billion Β£ which has to be serviced.Yes,excellent revenue but hardly rosy! And they value Pogba at Β£200,000,000 (only kidding)
Most clubs will have major financial problems which will not be easily solved.
