Chucky, the 30 doesn’t have to mean anything to you. I was only using it to counter your notion that cause we’ve got 18, this shouldn’t be a big deal.
Stop being bitter and just accept that Liverpool are champions.

30th March 2020 at 10:47 am #92396Never said they weren’t cyber chum! Just saying you need to treat all 20 teams the same or you’ll get law-suits everywhere…

30th March 2020 at 11:00 am #92399Chucky, I think law suits will fly whatever happens which is why the PL are pushing the terminology of the season bring curtailed and force majeure.
I think Brian summarised it best:
“Folks, we know NOW that the season cannot end by April, June, likely July and August as well. We are making 1000s of beds ready for the coming hit so why , please tell me, do the football management think it will not happen and they can go on there own sweet way They just cannot bring themselves to make a decision, get it done, live with it and move on and hopefully we can get back to normal in 6 months, that is what they say now, I still think it will be 12 months , if we are lucky.”
The longer it goes on the less important finishing this season will be what’s keeping it on the back burner now is the thought of the hundreds of millions ยฃ’s of TV monies the Clubs might lose.
Very few fans imo will have the appetite to see this season picked up and started again next September or October or even later. They will want to start afresh.

30th March 2020 at 11:05 am #92401Puupy, spot-on, they’ll be lawsuits regardless, I’m just trying of a solution that will most likely result in the least amount. Contrary to LiVARberoOol’s Fanatics opinion, the biggest losers are very likely to be Sheffield and Wolves. So close yet so far.

30th March 2020 at 11:20 am #924023ps-Sadly mate,DT[not the Arse fan] is right. This is going to be a case of deciding for one of the lesser evils,as the economy cannot remain in lockdown for longer than 3 months. We are seeing cases right here on this forum of people losing their jobs[Steve],and tens of thousands being laid off as a result,in the air travel industry alone. As you live in Germany you know better than us all just what impact it will have,on the auto industry alone, and since Germany is the biggest economy of Europe, and it depends on export entirely, just imagine the downturn there. My brother-in-law is a manager for a flowe company near the border with Holland, they are already experiencing huge problems.

30th March 2020 at 11:24 am #92403AnonymousSheffield Utd wouldn’t lose out though. It would have to go by average points, not just raw position. As for Wolves. Im not sure how they would miss out worse than Liverpool, unless you’re being bitter and biased of course ๐

30th March 2020 at 11:32 am #92404Special-K, “freezing the table” and giving out Euro Spots, relegation places etc.. will cause the most amount of law-suits, as just about everybody except for West Ham and LiVARberoOol will have an issue with it.
Waiting for who knows how long to ensure every game is played would be the best solution, but as nobody knows how long this could be it has the potential to mess-up the next 2/3 maybe even 4 seasons (especially as we have that bone-headed Winter World Cup to play around too!)
Declaring this season null and void, giving the Euro spots to last years winners, and promoting all “automatic” promotion spots gives the least amount of law-suits, the TV companies more games to help make up the missing games from this year, allows the season to HOPEFULLY starting somewhere in the time frame it usually starts, has the least amount of fall-out/lawsuits and the added bonus of pissing you off! ๐
And my biggest losers about Wolves and Sheffield is simply because they’ll never get this close again to the promised land, and while they do have a chance of CL footy this year, it’s highly unlikely we’ll ever find out.

30th March 2020 at 11:43 am #92406The only way to avoid law suits is to void the league. Paraphrasing the rules
A season consists of each team playing every other one both home and away, thatโs the rules, and if that doesnโt happen then the league is not completed. All teams signed up to those rules and as such canโt really argue against them especially as thereโs a caveat that says the league has the final say.

30th March 2020 at 12:13 pm #92410Just because I disagree with you, doesn’t mean I don’t love you…
It would seem your whole argument is simply based in “it isn’t fair”… as Peggy has mentioned and posted before the rules are actually quite clear, it’s now up to the powers that be to enforce them or not, depending on if an agreeable compromise can be reached.
And yes, spitting your dummy out doesn’t help matters when it appears your only footballing concern is making sure LiVARberoOol get their hands on the pot.

30th March 2020 at 12:38 pm #92411If you void the season now it will cause so many problems, sponsors, TV money, TV subscriptions, player season bonuses, final table prize money, European qualification… the list goes on and on. The whole integrity of the game comes into question.
There is no longer anything in the rules that state the season must end by a certain date:
“A joint statement read: “The FA, Premier League, EFL and womenโs professional game, together with the PFA and LMA, understand we are in unprecedented times and our thoughts are with everyone affected by COVID-19.
“We’re united in our commitment to finding ways of resuming the 2019-20 football season and ensuring all domestic and European club league and cup matches are played as soon as it is safe and possible to do so.
“We’ve collectively supported UEFA in postponing EURO 2020 to create space in the calendar to ensure domestic and European club league and cup matches have an increased opportunity to be played and, in doing so, maintain the integrity of each competition.
“The FAโs Rules and Regulations state that โthe season shall terminate not later than the 1 Juneโ and โeach competition shall, within the limit laid down by The FA, determine the length of its own playing seasonโ.
“However, our Board has agreed for this limit to be extended indefinitely for the 2019-20 season in relation to professional football. Additionally, we’ve collectively agreed that the professional game in England will be further postponed until no earlier than Thursday 30 April.”
Joint statement from FA, EFL and PL.

30th March 2020 at 12:47 pm #92412Sky reporting that Wimbledon is to be cancelled given that Wimbledon starts at the beginning of July that gives an indication to how likely it is that this season can recommence in June or July.

30th March 2020 at 12:57 pm #924133p’s, said it before, the absolute fairest way to solve this is to play the games. The big question which has started this current round of debate is how long to wait until those games are played? End of June? End of July? When? What about the player’s contracts?
You can’t wait forever cyber chum, there has to be a cut-off point somewhere. You can’t play 9 games and then start next season a week later, you’re in effect thing playing a 47 game season, and then you’ve got all the other leagues and the play-offs etc… (and you know all clubs will want to somehow get on their pre-season tours for the cash!). And you still have the Euro’s next year, they’re not going to move it twice so you can’t start the season in October and split that season into 2 or something silly like that, and then you have all the nonsense of starting the season early in 22 because of the stupid World Cup.
The powers that be will choose the path of least resistance or, to put it another way, the path of lowest cash flow loses, and I’m pretty sure that will end up being something along the lines of a 22 Premiership next season (might even be 23 and let the play-offs happen!) so the TV companies get the extra games next season.
Is it fair on LiVARberoOol? No, it isn’t, but football (including LiVARberoOol!) sold its soul a long time ago. No use complaining about it being “unfair” now.

30th March 2020 at 1:02 pm #92414I know some will disagree but I just cant see this season finishing properly. Any solution can be put together that clubs and tv can agree on then start the new season proper in Sept/Oct if possible. Just forget trying to play the remaining games.

30th March 2020 at 1:05 pm #92415Whatever is decided 14 Clubs in the PL have to agree to whatever the agreed strategy might be.
Personally I don’t think playing the remaining games behind closed doors will help anyone other than perhaps Liverpool who only need 6 points from 9 games to secure the title but that kind of false driven end to the season at neutral venues behind closed doors whenever it could happen which still seems miles off will throw up weird results and potentially hurt teams like Villa for instance in their fight against relegation.
I’m not sure that there is anything in the rules that covers where we are now but the fact that the PL have recently advised Clubs not to talk about null and voiding the season and instead use the word “curtailing” because it fits with their back stop position of ending the PL on the basis of force majeure to give themselves the maximum legal protection.
I think the biggest problem for the Club’s is the hundreds of millions ยฃ’s of TV monies lost but they could negotiate themselves out of that situation by offering Sky and BT Sport circa 30 additional games next season free of charge.
From the fans perspective I don’t think there is any appetite bar possibly the Liverpool fans to play this season out no matter what even if it is in December.
We’ll probably get no sensible announcement currently from the PL outside an updated announcement this week that the season don’t start before May 31st.

30th March 2020 at 1:12 pm #92416Chucky, if there is no time available to finish this season the we can probably assume that things have got even worse and that next season won’t happen either. The virus doesn’t just adhere to the 2019-2020 football calendar!
If the season doesn’t finish then the whole integrity of the game will have to be questioned. Extending the season indefinitely is not ideal but the lesser of two evils compared to voiding when you consider your arguments that the Euros might need to be moved again or there may be a bit of fixture congestion.
And it wasn’t me that made the previous quote, as I said it was the powers that be. And not one mention of Liverpool or the word unfair.
