I still think too many, including the football hierarchy think this is going to pass in a couple of weeks I have doubts if season will start in September. This is not the case of switching off a tap, when it does reduce by a significant amount, there is still work and caution to be applied. At the moment nobody can predict when it is going to peak. Italy thought they had reached it,,,then…… Wuhan said to be getting back but still reports of new cases

29th March 2020 at 9:57 am #92324Bb-Wuhan & entire China are having countless number of unreported new cases, massive media propaganda is being sold, there are @ least 40 mutations/new strains of the virus, and its now,as a result, being passed fron human to animal and vice versa.

29th March 2020 at 10:06 am #92325Mav, youβre not just part of a team though mate youβre a bit of a hero doing what you do in some of the most difficult areas in the world. Thanks 9s,but the credit goes to them people on hazmat uniforms handling the worst infected areas, people with more than one PHD,nurses following them every step of the way.We belong to the so-called 2nd line of the front,we too go village to village, tribe to tribe, door to door, but THEY deal with the worst cases.

29th March 2020 at 11:06 am #92327Mav.My other half, Phd microbiologist having spent all her working life on viruses etc said that not all mutations are necessarily as bad as the original. Have you any local experience. Interested to hear.
I do feel sorry for Ronaldo, Ramsey & co taking a paycut …must be terrible!

29th March 2020 at 11:32 am #92328Adlab-With some diseases it goes like this:you have a treatment for the disease, you treat the patient/s with the most powerful combo od drugs you have, the virus mutates onto another strain, and the treatment you started with the aim of killing the disease, its now food for the 2nd strain, making it bigger and more powerful.
Take MRSA or TB for example, there are hundreds of cases worldwide every year of both becoming DR-drug resistant,MRSA to Vancomycin, and TB to all antibiotics known to mankind.
Medicine as a profession has to take the blame to a certain extent thanks to overuse of antibiotics.
Mate, got to say this, lets hope & pray Corona doesnt make its way into Africa, poor parts of Asia and S.America,as it will cause a carnage not seen since WW2._____________________________

29th March 2020 at 12:26 pm #92330AnonymousYa, at least the poorer areas also tend to have more sun , which might hinder the virus enough.
As for footballers salaries, I’ve absolutely no sympathy for any of them. Once you get to a certain level of income, you’re pretty safe from the worst case financial scenarios here but these lads are multi-millionaires many times over. It’s not at all serious for them in any meaningful way.

29th March 2020 at 1:22 pm #92332I’m sure wage cuts will come to the PL as well with no TV monies coming to the Club’s as well as Sponsorship monies coming under pressure too Clubs will have to cut back on their overheads the biggest of which will be players salaries.

29th March 2020 at 1:27 pm #92333Really worrying scenes in India tens of thousands of people trying to board Coaches with no social distancing at all. The Coronavirus is likely to spread like wildfire in countries like India.

29th March 2020 at 1:41 pm #92334Mav, you’re one of the limited few who would give themselves to these countries to provide healthcare in really difficult conditions.
You’re right all the NHS staff are heroes particularly those on the front line currently trying to cope with this virus. That’s why the Thursday “Clap” was so important because it demonstrated to them all how grateful the Country is in what they are doing and hopefully the Thursday “Clap” continues every Thursday to continue to show the Countries massive appreciation and support for our magnificent NHS heroes.
Unfortunately as you know I’ve had to lean on the NHS myself over the last few years and I can’t speak highly enough of all those who have been looking after me.
I know you always like to underplay your magnificent contribution and credit to you for that but you’re still a hero in my eyes for everything you’re doing in the World’s poorest regions to help people who desperately need you’re help for a mere fraction of Messi’s weekly salary too. Take care my friend. Cheers 9’s

29th March 2020 at 2:10 pm #92338“The Chelsea squad have made a “sizeable” donation to the club’s charitable foundation to aid the most vulnerable in the local are during the coronavirus pandemic.
Foundation staff have been helping local foodbanks deliver food parcels to those most in need in Surrey, Sussex and London while the club are in regular dialogue with councils over how they can help.
Earlier this month, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich offered the use of the Millenium Hotel, based at Stamford Bridge, to local NHS staff free of charge while manager Frank Lampard and Cesar Azpilicueta also donated to a separate fundraiser to support those on the frontline of the battle against Covid-19.
In a statement, Chelsea said: “With many people facing uncertainty due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Foundation β through the generosity of the players β will work with a number of charities to support the most vulnerable within our community.”
Club captain Azpilicueta added: “In these difficult times it is important we support those in need and together the players are proud to be able to do this through the Chelsea Foundation.” Standard.

29th March 2020 at 2:10 pm #92339Nine. I couldnt have put it better.
A few years ago I had to go to hospital with a heart issue. It turned out to be arrhythmia which is well controlled with tablets. I received excellent care in the NHS except for one thing. Tbere werent enough staff at night on a critical care ward. Lack of funding according to the Trust. We are currently seeing the results of elements of underfunding in hospitals and in social care. I hope things will change._____________________________

29th March 2020 at 3:03 pm #923409s-Thankyou again young man,and Im not underplaying my contribution @ all mate as I believe is non existant compared to what others do,just glad that there people worldwide doing things like this, regardless if its Doctors without borders,WHO,CDC and many NGOs offering whatever help they can.Especial mentioning should go to RSPCA of both the UK & Australia who have done absolutely amazing things in trying to help animals.I can vouch for these people, the lengths these people go its absolutely unbelievable!

29th March 2020 at 5:15 pm #92343Sean, in Cologne. Germany has a lot of cases but not many deaths relatively. USA, italy and spain have a higher rate of cases and china still has more. But as I said we have no lock down as such, just social distancing with max groups of two people and non essential shops closed. I cant help thinking we are still very much in the calm before the real storm hits us.
Tommorow back to the office sadly after a week of home office.
