21st March 2020 at 11:00 am #90613Adlab, good on you for the volunteering I try and help a lady out who has severe diabetes and no car with visits to the Doctor and taking her shopping etc sadly I can’t do that now.
We will all probably go stir crazy with Waitrose being the highlight of our week.?
All our neighbours are great though we’ve got an Orthopedic Consultant living opposite who has just knocked on the door and bought us a couple of pastries to have with our Coffee what a kind thought.

21st March 2020 at 11:03 am #90615Mav, if you really want to learn the Guitar there’s some great stuff on the internet now.
If you’re starting from scratch the Fender teach yourself site looks a good one otherwise there are loads of tutorials for different songs and genres.

21st March 2020 at 11:15 am #90621Nav…my Guitar playing is via keyboard, I cannot play a Guitar. However, if you can read music it should not be a problem only the slides and Riffs to learn

Stevo, totally agree about the pubs mate. We closed ours on Sunday. Only the church has ever closed pubs in Ireland ?

21st March 2020 at 1:19 pm #90684Brian, I wish it was as easy as that buddie.
At least we have something to while away the hours. A bit more time for practice and I might even improve a bit.?

21st March 2020 at 1:54 pm #90698That is it Nine..the golden word ..practise…My problem is I have so many things to practise on. My music taste cover a wide range, so getting it right across all genres is not easy plus the faster numbers are out because my mind and hands cannot keep up any more, a bit easier when playing with Midi back up but still hard going because timing becomes the issue then. It does fill time though and I have almost forgotten about football The other good thing is I have done about 10 versions of Blue Moon!!!!

21st March 2020 at 2:33 pm #90720Sean, you’re far too kind buddie tbh I think pretty much everyone on here is a diamond soul.
This site could be a blessing for us all in terms of human contact we all get on pretty well together anyway and with Club loyalties put to one side temporarily I’m sure we’ll all get on even better.
Interesting you say about only the Church have closed down Pubs in Ireland previously and we are now in very extraordinary and worrying times.
I don’t know but I suspect all the Churches in Ireland are now closed too?
I didn’t attend Mass last Sunday and phoned our Parish Priest on Monday to say I wouldn’t be able to attend Mass again until this was over because of my condition which he completely understood he told me then he thought the Bishops would close all Catholic Churches over here within a few days and sure enough they did and I suspect the same is true in Ireland.
Cheers 9’s

21st March 2020 at 3:54 pm #90759In our village we have a lovely, very old church.
Message outside… no more Sunday services but you can go in and pray if you wish.Manchester City and Manchester United have joined up to donate Β£100,000 for food banks in response to coronavirus.
Each club will donate Β£50,000 to the Trussell Trust, with the funds going to its 19 food banks in Greater Manchester.
The clubs said the donations would “compensate for the temporary loss of food donations on match days”.
“We are pleased to come together with our fans to help vulnerable members of society in a City United.”
The Manchester United Supporters Trust said they were also “overwhelmed” after fans’ groups at Everton and Liverpool also pledged Β£3,000 towards the fund.
Good to see. The cynic in me says could do better when you consider players wages etc but still nice to see. At our Citizens Advice office food bank vouchers have increased by 50% in the last couple of weeks.

21st March 2020 at 4:08 pm #90769Anonymous“The family are all in regular contact by phone but weβre not seeing the Grandchildren until this is over which is hard. ”
Make sure not to see them until it’s over and then an extra week or 2.
The thing is though, it’s looking more and more like it kinda will never be over. For a while there, it seemed like it was still containable but we’re beyond that now unfortunately.
I think it may come down to a point where society will have no choice but to push on. Obviously the people at risk would need to be quarantined and how could you do such a thing on such a large scale? Maybe such facilities will have to be built in a short spell, from the ground up.. Is that even possible? (Maybe mass production/deployment of pre-fabs or something)..I have no idea but you can’t have economies being on 20-40% for a whole year or 2. Maybe there are ways to speed along the vaccine process but I wouldn’t get my hopes up there.
One thing is for certain, this pandemic will change our readiness/protocols and back up plans etc etc, with regards to future outbreaks.

21st March 2020 at 5:17 pm #90801It will be over once there is effective treatment and a vaccine. Hopefully it then becomes like another flu virus, which by the way kills far more each year.
The essence is to limit the spread until, hopefully, we have effective treatment._____________________________
