The most important thing is to keep safe.Footy. At least “what should happen” gives us something to talk about. I am sure that somehow the season will finish…but then what? Late start? But if things are clear Euros will have to fit in so you cant start too late. What happens…who knows!

19th March 2020 at 7:08 pm #89464Cast your minds back 7 months or so, the main topic of conversation was “what are we going to talk about” VAR was to be implemented and the fear was that everything would be clinical and there would be no contentious decisions to talk about.
How wrong we were, VAR became the main topic, it’s forensic examination of offsides and handballs and it’s inability to spot the clear and obvious errors, so much so it detracted from the actual football.
Then the sheer dominance of Liverpool came into the conversation, non Pool fans handing them the title whilst they wouldn’t accept it until the season was over and the trophy was engraved and in the cabinet.
Well here we are now, Footy has really become irrelevant, looking out for your loved ones is now the priority, but try to do this with others in mind. My youngest best friend’s brother is celiac, their family is struggling to get gluten free food and ingredients as others are stockpiling and non celiacs are buying the ingredients as normal flour etc has temporarily sold out. I’ve heard stories of young mothers being in tears in supermarkets as they can’t get formula milk as others have bought trolleys full of it……Pagan

20th March 2020 at 11:56 am #89889I’d forgotten about VAR!
How irrelevant that has become.
Despite what is being put out currently, I just get that feeling the season may not finish.
My son,who is 39, and has suffered from asthma and works for the police in IT, has just been sent home for 12 weeks. Thats end of June (minimum). Thats today. There is every chance of things tightening up more. So why will football start any time soon. Kids wont be back at school until September. Why would games recommence before then.I reckon the new season is way off. I just think the decision is going to be …write off this season, same teams and start a new season. Crap for Liverpool after 30 years.
Hope Im wrong

20th March 2020 at 10:49 pm #90225AnonymousInteresting piece… Take away from it was the old football cliche quote… ““There are fitness plans in place but it’s not the same as being match-ready. It will be the same over there (in England). You need regular matches to maintain those levels of fitness and performance.”
Very true and could impact on title and relegation battles. Which does undermine the fairness of it being mid season and not after pre season. Anyhow, wishing you all the very best of health.

20th March 2020 at 11:02 pm #90238Anonymous“mak, sorry for my grumpyness, you got both barrels.”
I appreciate that but really don’t worry about it. I guess, just know that I separate football from life and not just now. it’s always been to the side, even if it is still important, it’s important as a distraction, if that makes sense.
I do have something to be semi-upset about, not related to here. I have a friend in England, who is very very much an at risk person. He has both type 1 diabetes and also Addisons disease. I’ve spoken to him a few times about how he has to self-isolate and try to avoid getting this. His response each time has been “we all have to die sometime”… I’m serious.
The last time, i was a bit tired of this lax attitude so I said, ok you’re right but that doesn’t mean you have to put a gun to your head and pull the trigger. That was yesterday or the day before. Today we were playing some rocket league (PC game) and his doorbell goes. His mfiancee couldn’t get it for whatever bloody reason but it turned out to be his mother. She came back on a trip to Scotland…
I felt like losing it then if I’m honest and this is my problem with people. They have really no excuse for being ignorant any more but here we are, a mother, going off to bloody scotland and coming back to her son who will be a toss of a coin from death if he catches this. My blood boils now when i think about it but I’ve already said to much to him.
We had a similar thing about him selling his laptop over ebay. I had a fairly long talk, reminded him several times not to try and save fees by going off book (selling by email and avoiding ebays fees and also protection)… the next day he did exactly what i said not to do and he never got paid for the laptop. when he complained to ebay, they said “why?.. we’ve nothing to do with it”…
Now it’s much more serious and he just won’t fucking listen or learn. It’s difficult cause if I didn’t like him it would be a lot easier to say “fucking idiot”.
But this attitude is the problem. People are not creating an uninfected barrier between them and the people at risk. Im sure that almost all other people at risk are at least semi-sensible.. I get the feeling that I’m going to say something I regret soon but I mean it would kinda be worth it, if it snapped him the fuck out of it.,
Sorry for going on, it’s not football related but the thread is less and less so anyway.

Cases in Ireland now. It was 34 last Tuesday3 people dead. To many teenagers going around in packs. If people don’t follow the rules here then we will go into lockdown
It’s inevitable that lock down is coming but people really need to play there part.
Stay in, keep your distance etc. Sooner people follow these rules, the sooner we can get this under control
Remember guys, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. This will be over soon and we will be back moaning about rubbish ?
It’s been one week here. It’s not been to bad at all. I can work from home. I bring my kids out and we go for little walks through the day. We don’t interact with anyone else
I’ve ran 25km in 4 days as no gyms open. Stay positive. Stay in doors and really don’t make any unnecessary journeys.
When this is over, the works will seem such a better place. We will appreciate the simple things a whole lot more
I just hope everyone gets out of this without it really affecting anyone or their family . The future is bright chums

21st March 2020 at 8:18 am #90516The irony here is people can basically save themselves and their loved ones by sitting in front of the TV all day in their underwear (you know Goose and Buffy are!) and yet somehow people are still managing to fook that up.

21st March 2020 at 8:47 am #90534Yeah I’m the same as Sean I’m going on the Hospital’s advice to me from my Nurse who phoned me this week only going out twice a week for essential food and very early as I have to stay away from people then I walk the Dogs in the day that’s it.
The family are all in regular contact by phone but we’re not seeing the Grandchildren until this is over which is hard. If we get kept in because we are both on the vulnerable list my Son’s will drop the shopping in.
Cancelled our holiday to Spain in June no way we could drive down through France and Spain is just as badly hit cancelled all the Hotels in France one of them is currently closed because of the Pandemic they are losing so much business and this is unlikely to be over in June.
Normality seems a long long way away. Stay safe all.

It is true that we have to avoid social contact. I worry about people’s mental health, not yet, but after a few weeks or months of this.
In normal times I work as a vOlunteer debt adviser for Citizens Advice. Now we have to give what help we can over the phone but its not the same. Now its Waitrose a couple of times a week. (First Hour for over 70s and vulnerable). So far working ok. Then I take the dogs out. As we live in the country its easy to social distance.
We have some great restaurants locally. Will they survive? One side of this is that perhaps people wont take for granted what we treat as normal.
No footy news today, apart from the dozens of players Utd are going to sign.
