17th March 2020 at 7:15 pm #88496The more I think about it there are just two choices.
1. The season is null and void or
2. Finish the quarter of the season that remains in June/July if possible and if possible new season starts in SeptemberGiven where we are it might be very difficult to play in June. Already the French Open tennis is posponed. If the Euros are posponed in part because of fan movement, why would the domestic league be different?

17th March 2020 at 7:36 pm #88504I suspect any continuation of the league would have to be completed behind closed doors. But I’m just wondering that since this thing now appears to be spread even without symptoms, whether everyone starts wearing masks when cases reduce that will allow the restrictions on social distancing to be somewhat lifted that would in turn allow part of the economy to restart. Admittedly, that would be difficult for bars and restaurants still where you obviously need access to your mouth.

17th March 2020 at 8:03 pm #88517No emergency services support as announced yesterday for at least 12 weeks suggest that without Police and Para Medics it would be very difficult for Football to restart even behind closed doors until the very earliest mid to late June and that assumes the Government don’t extend that restriction and we’re still not in the middle of this.
Thursday will give us an indication of the PL’s future strategy for the rest of this season but not when it might be reaistically implemented.

17th March 2020 at 8:22 pm #88527The main problem is when are we going to play footy again, and we don’t know the answer to that. So we need two plans, if we can get going September/October, then we start a new season and thrash out who’s in what league and prepare for that, if it doesn’t look like it will start until the new year then we continue this one…Pagan

18th March 2020 at 12:39 am #88630UEFA have revealed an agreement was reached between all domestic competitions that they would finish the season by June 30. That means the Premier League would need to be completed by that date for Liverpool to be crowned champions with no action currently ongoing because of the coronavirus crisis.
Point one read: “A commitment to complete all domestic and European club competitions by the end of the current sporting season, i.e. 30 June 2020 at the latest, should the situation improve and resuming playing be appropriate and prudent enough.”
Point two said: “Possible limitations or drops of current exclusive calendar slots, potentially resulting in the scheduling of domestic league matches in mid-week and scheduling of UEFA club competitions matches on weekends.”

18th March 2020 at 12:46 am #88635The above statement from UEFA looks more than a tad optimistic without things change dramatically for the better however it was followed by this quote from UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin “We have Plan A, Plan B, Plan C, Plan D. Depends all on the time when we will have a chance to start playing football in Europe again.”

18th March 2020 at 8:59 am #88830Everything in the world is going to change and that includes football.
You can’t finish the season now as it stands. It’s not fair on other clubs etc and I’d hate to win the league like this
For me it has to be suspended then picked up again when ever that is
You cannot just cancel the season. That sets us back further.
Football is the least of everyone’s worries at the minute in anyway
What will be, will be
This just gets more mind bending by the day
It’s just very hard to fathom what’s going on

18th March 2020 at 9:59 am #88855Good post Sean.
We all love football but it does take a back seat whilst we try and fight this situation together. I appreciate the chat on here regarding the subject as I think we are a good intelligent bunch but elsewhere I’ve seen so many posts by rival fans mocking Liverpool because of Coronvirus, some actually celebrating the virus as it may deprive us the title. Sometimes it makes me embarrassed that I follow a sport that has so many low lifes within it’s fan base it actually makes me consider walking away. I know they are just keyboard warriors and the saying “Give a man a mask and he will tell the truth, give him a keyboard and he will act like a complete twat” does spring to mind!
From tomorrow I start working from Home and I expect we will be in lock down very soon. In my City with a population of just over 1 million there is already over 400 known cases and increasing by around 80 a day now. And that’s just the known ones or the ones that can actually get tested!

18th March 2020 at 10:58 am #88881“Chelsea Football Club is joining the medical response to the coronavirus outbreak in London with the news the National Health Service (NHS) has accepted the Club’s offer to make the Millennium Hotel at Stamford Bridge available for NHS staff.
The initiative came from club owner Roman Abramovich and, after contact with the NHS was made by Chairman Bruce Buck, it was decided the best way Chelsea can assist the NHS is to provide accommodation for NHS staff. Mr Abramovich will be covering the costs of providing the accommodation. Many of the medical staff will be working long shifts and may not be able to travel home or would otherwise have to make long commutes. Local accommodation helps maintain the health and well-being of these crucial personnel at this critical time.
This will be for a two-month period, and then reconsidered in light of circumstances at the time. NHS staff will be those working in hospitals in the North-West London region, but that may extend to hospitals in other districts.
The number of rooms utilised will depend on demand but potentially all the rooms in the Millennium Hotel could be given over for this purpose. No staff showing symptoms will use the hotel.
Millennium Hotels and Resorts, who manage the hotel, are supportive and assisting the club in providing this service to the NHS.”
Nice touch by Roman.

18th March 2020 at 3:34 pm #88989Sean…you are right, there are more important things to worry about than football. I do believe though that football, at least all the administrators do not understand what is happening.. FOOTBALL IS OVER, just get on with it and get ready for the next season. You cannot keep trying to satisfy all the permutations when they will not work. The virus is nowhere near reached its peak yet. When it does start, spectators/fans will be trying to balance there own finances as well so I would expect attendances to be down as well…at least if the fans had any sense. This is not going to go away soon and in my opinion next season will not start on time. Like I have stated before, er need strong positive action from the Administrators not wishful thinking and playing politics
