The games can continue behind closed doors and after all the players and officials and any others have been checked and cleared. Can’t see the problem with that.

15th March 2020 at 10:19 am #86827Lads taking a break from forums and social media for a while. Pure panic in Ireland but glad the government have taken action
I really hope we go into full lockdown mode ASAP.
Close everything. People are sill gathering in bars etc. Itβs ridiculous and silly.
Uk and Ireland and everyone needs to do what Italy etc are doing. Just stay at home. This is just so bizarre and itβs like something from a film
Great bunch on here and hopefully everyone stays ok
Messages in WhatsApp groups, speculation about everything and anything is not good for the head
Like nine days, letβs wait and see what happens in next few months with regards the virus, never mind sport
Talk soon chums

15th March 2020 at 10:49 am #86845Can’t see it happening Moos 90 games criss crossing the country in large groups of players, Coaches and medical staff taking up emergency services time and attention when the country is likely to be going into lock down just to cram in the last 9 games of the season.
And that’s before we take into account the thousands of fans who might turn up outside grounds they can’t get into just as the PSG fans did the other night in their CL game and can you imagine how many Liverpool fans might turn up outside a ground in a game that could confirm Liverpool as Champions.
The seasons done imo and may well not start on time next season massive new Draconian measures are going to be rolled out next week trying to complete the football season is very unimportant given what’s happening.

15th March 2020 at 11:45 am #86878Being over 70, just waiting to be told to stay at home for 4 months.
I think I will retrain as a divorce lawyer for the over 65s.The consensus view on the Sunday Supplement on Sky is that they will try to finish the season whatever it takes. They only reservation was how and when. Also when will next season start. What about transfers etc.
Keep well all chums outside the UK. If you were religious how about this:
Floods (here)
Fire (Australia/Caalifornia)
Locusts(Africa)
Plague (Covid 19)What next?

15th March 2020 at 12:16 pm #86895The NRL (National Rugby League) here in Australia are desperate to continue on with all matches from next weekend behind closed doors simply because the whole thing will go belly up financially if the season is greatly interrupted let alone canned. Our A League soccer is probably in the same boat and is continuing at this stage. Both codes were played out in front of the fans this weekend. A big worry for both codes but human life is the issue here. It will only take one player to test positive and their hand will be forced.

15th March 2020 at 12:55 pm #8691667, First Italy in lockdown now Spain, France in virtual lockdown and the UK is seemingly soon to to follow this I’m sure will ultimately almost certainly be the same all over the World inc Oz.
Last week the Government wasn’t stopping Football and all major gatherings the decision on football was taken out of their hands but now we have no football and the UK Government is preparing far more drastic measures.

15th March 2020 at 1:40 pm #86940Adlab, yeah I saw the Sunday Supplement too.
What I would say is that all 4 journalists have no more idea of what might happen than any of us.
Of course the best solution is to complete the season but nobody should underestimate how difficult that might be.
Also of course if there’s no football none of these football journalists have a job so it’s in their interests to promote a recommencement of the current season.?
Currently given the likely unveiling’s on Tuesday that looks a long way off. This thing is much bigger than football.
I also thought Maddock was embarrassing with his obvious bias. Hopefully he doesn’t pop up again for a while on S.Supp. If and when he does I won’t be watching it.

15th March 2020 at 3:01 pm #86990As you can see from the forum post, there are lots of options but in view of the serious health threat there is only one option. Close the season NOW. That in itself freezes the league, then a decision has to be made who is Champion and who is relegated. The only other possibility is to replay the season with existing teams whenever it starts again. I have no problem with Liverpool being awarded title NOW, as to Relegation…teams involved can use play off formats behind closed doors or Accept the table as is. Somebody is going to loose out because you cannot cater for all the options, so, a brave decision is required by somebody The crisis deserves strong and decisive decision making

He knew nothing then I am sure all the media will be looking for ways to get it started again, regardless so they can keep jobs going, well, I have news for them there are tens of thousands of people feeling the same about there jobs as well and some have useful productive ones as well

15th March 2020 at 3:39 pm #87013AnonymousThey should move the Euros to 2024 (not next summer) and cancel the domestic cups for next season. That plus this summer will give enough space to fit the required games in.
I think most, especially on here are willing to concede that the PL is over but some aren’t and maybe that’s just what will happen. That some will not accept this title, if it’s awarded to Liverpool. So, we should just play it out when this virus clears. I think it’s ridiculous myself but if it’s got to done then fine.
Brian, Adlab and others, look after yourself and I’d say be careful about any contact with relatives, regardless of how healthy they appear to be. Touch your face less often, washing your hands more and wipe down door handles and other common contact areas etc. Might seem ridiculous but this is no joke. stay safe lads.
