14th March 2020 at 8:52 pm #86376Pagan…if that is the case, to me, it would confirm the complete and utter waste the FA are. By giving a “trophy to recognise the victory” is the same as awarding them the title in the first place. I can only think that the FA will have the support of most of the clubs in the PL to carry it through a vote. They will know WHU will not be giving them the title after Karen Brady’s speech
I just cannot understand what the problem is, if the league has finished for the season then the table stands as it is, Liverpool are No1 and those at the bottom stay at the bottom, tough, but you cannot keep making permutations, at some point it all catches up and in the meantime the league losses credibility because it fails to address the situation correctly. We are informed the virus will be with us for some considerable time…so get the plan in place and stop talking about it
As a PS….I hope the FA publish the vote from the clubs in fairness to the fans and have some transparency on the matter, after all, the fans pay a chunk of money to support the game_____________________________

14th March 2020 at 9:00 pm #86381Adlab…NO…the season is over…give it to them now and shut down until September and review situation, there is no saying at this stage the health situation will improve in next 6 months, in fact, current evidence and thinking is it will go on longer. As Mr Klopp eluded to football is not important in this situation. I am in the high risk category but had already cancelled my City matches for rest of season, as painful as that was. This is the only way to look at it because it will not go away and a vaccine is at least 2years away before it gets to Joe public

14th March 2020 at 9:00 pm #86382Brian, I have a tendency to post things cryptically, The Victory And Recognition Trophy becomes the VAR Trophy
Mak though has outdone me on this occasion, inadvertently I suspect
Liverpool – Champions of the UNiverse Trophy 2020
Priceless…..Pagan

14th March 2020 at 9:10 pm #86392Pagan I think the thoughts were the same…lets hope for a good outcome but I am not holding my breath waiting for the FA/UEFA to have three lunch meetings and decide on the worst option they can figure out

14th March 2020 at 9:19 pm #86398Maybe so Brian, mine was a humorous play on the situation, putting Liverpool at the start of the other seems to turn into a self assessment……Pagan

14th March 2020 at 9:44 pm #86413If you freeze the table now, what happens to Aston Villa? Do they go down?
If you forget Liverpool what about the other teams. They might shout not fair.
It is not an easy decision.
Sentiment says Liverpool have been the best team and without doubt would win the title, but as soon as you give it to them without completion of the league all sorts of other issues come to the forfront. I really dont know what the answer is. Because it is so difficult I would not be surprised if the competition this season was declared void. I hope not. For Sean and all Pool fans it would be so unfair, truly. But what is an equitable solution for everybody.
Honestly I dont know.
Problem is its not just about who are champions. There is top 4, relegation, promotion, playoffs etc etc. This is what Karen Brady was eluding to. Its not just about the champions.
I dont know!_____________________________

14th March 2020 at 9:49 pm #86417AnonymousI said it somewhere else, maybe this thread, I forget but the solution is to have the top3 in the Championship go head to head in a play off with the bottom 3 PL teams. So 1st place Vrs 20th and so on.
they can either push the Euros back to 2024 and stagger the PL over the next 2 years, or they can award the PL to Liverpool. The most unfair decision would be to void it and anyone who wants that just doesn’t want Liverpool to get the trophy they deserve. It’s just bitterness and nothing more. Ad I said, there is a solution to everything here. Also, as for Sheffields game in hand issue, go from average points per game, rather than total points. It’s almost the same thing but for them it would be fair.

14th March 2020 at 9:59 pm #86423AnonymousOh and if it comes down to the Pl wanting to award Liverpool a made up title, instead of awarding the actual PL trophy to us then I hope they would refuse. We competed in the PL to win the PL and they either give us that, or we demand that they make the time somewhere to let us finish it, if they aren’t happy with an incomplete.

14th March 2020 at 9:59 pm #86424Out of interest does the Premier League ultimately come under the jurisdiction of UEFA? If so then the final outcome of the leagues across Europe will all have to be sorted out in the same way…..Pagan

14th March 2020 at 10:25 pm #86439AnonymousI don’t think so. I mean FFP rules are similar but different in the PL and UEFA. Ultimately they may have to comply with some things though alright, so we’ll see but you’re the first person/source that has mentioned this possibility. My guess is that no such restriction is in place.

14th March 2020 at 10:37 pm #86447Joking aside now, we all have our thoughts on what may or may not happen with the leagues, but currently this virus is just talk to us all, itβs just a story on the news, it happens to other people, but, IF it takes hold in a mass infection and the people around us we know and love get seriously ill we wonβt care about the footy. Letβs hope it doesnβt come to that…..Pagan

14th March 2020 at 10:57 pm #86459Let’s see what happens come early April. Things will be much clearer then and we should find out. Clearly all these same discussions would be going on with the powers that be.

15th March 2020 at 12:59 am #86525The reality is folks is that we’re all shooting in the dark nobody knows what will happen you would imagine that there will be PL rules that govern what happens in respect of an incomplete season but at the end of the day it may come down to a vote by all the PL Clubs.
I don’t think there is any chance this season will be completed the Government are allegedly about to pass laws that prevent mass gatherings way into the Summer which will supposedly take Wimbledon and Glastonbury etc out and like Brian I think there’s every chance that the start of next season will be delayed too. We are in unprecedented times.
Morally Liverpool are Champions and obviously it would be an injustice if they weren’t awarded the PL title but it’s not as simple as that because there are also the European places and Relegation places to sort out.
The simplest way would be to say the PL table stands as it is now when the season has been forced to end which takes care of everything but that might not get the necessary majority support of the PL Clubs and ultimately that’s how all this will be sorted out by a majority decision of all the PL Clubs taking into account whatever rules might exist to govern the current circumstances.
UEFA will hold no sway on it though nor will the FA these are PL decisions which will ultimately be taken by a majority of the 20 Clubs in the PL.
Reflecting on the sentiments of JΓΌrgen Klopp and Pagan above though this thing is so serious football really isn’t that important. May God take care of us all and our loved ones.

15th March 2020 at 4:03 am #86625Genuine question here. All the big leagues throughout Europe postponed their matches yet I see lower leagues in England went ahead – the National League South went ahead in its entirety. How come?

15th March 2020 at 7:59 am #86751OK thanks Pagan. Surprised they would not all follow suit considering the health issues at hand. I don’t think it will be long b4 they stop too. All it would take is one player coming down with it. Over here they played the full first round of the Rugby League in front of supporters however have already decided that moving forward the matches from Round 2 onward would be behind closed doors. I reckon, again, that will change once the first League player gets a positive test. Our A League football (soccer) is also unaffected with crowds attending at this time yet they have already canned our annual Royal Easter Show (which attracts huge crowds) and many other events like a Robbie Williams concert.

15th March 2020 at 8:16 am #86761That would suit us nicely 999 with our precarious 4th spot and a tough run in.
