12th April 2021 at 10:40 am #177423Sean..re your earlier post..clots….I think you are probably more likely to get clots cramped up in a budget seated plane seat and filled with booze, in some cases, than from a jab. Mostly political judgements made not common sense and some “expert” playing the numbers game. Too many negatives and not enough positives from people who should know better. There is no 100% cure now, to morrow or next year but let us be grateful we can save tens of thousands of lives in the meantime. Hopefully our brilliant scientist in the Pharma companies will improve the statistic some more

12th April 2021 at 2:42 pm #177439Great shame but even without Corona Debenhams was a business in decline and has been for a long time unfortunately Department Stores are no longer fashionable squeezed between specialist retail outlets and the internet very sad and the stores are so big that they will leave a massive ugly hole on the high street.
As a whole the high street is in a very tough place now it was tough before Covid and it’s going to be a lot tougher now.

12th April 2021 at 2:52 pm #177443Nine, still remember when my local woolworths closed, beginning of the end for my local high Street
It’s a cheap furniture shop now and so poorly maintained you can still see the woolworths sign underneath the old shop front
Greggs the only survivor but proud to have played my part in keeping them going π

12th April 2021 at 3:31 pm #177445I will sadly miss going to a big store, well , as it was years ago. The wheel will eventually circle and I believe there will be another time for them. The current margin shops could easily been Woolworths of old. I think the problem with big shops is they catered for the wrong markets putting there eggs in one basket, so to speak and catering for fashion labels and high prices. I can never understand why Jeans are such a high price, put a label on they go higher….must admit though, never worn a pair in my life. M+S lost a lot of customers like me catering for the young but now rely on food more than clothes i suspect

12th April 2021 at 8:11 pm #177454Lucky, one of my managers I work with is a regular coffee drinker from our local Greggs, so have to get him fixed when I’m working a shift π
The Chicken Bakes are nice from there but have to keep away from their Sausage Rolls, ha! π

12th April 2021 at 11:22 pm #177464I’d love department Stores to be back on the High Street. It’s the Retail Parks though I see getting the face lift and encouraging more shop units and growth aside Online Shopping.
People want convenient parking and long stays without having to pay so much.
I think it’s also a certain type of environment, open space and a variation of different types of retailers and services.

15th April 2021 at 3:12 pm #177555Premier League clubs will only be able to admit home fans for the final two rounds of the season after plans to allow away supporters were scrapped.
The Premier League are set to confirm the plan to move the final two gameweeks of the season beyond May 17, the date after which supporters are allowed back into grounds, meaning each side will have one home fixture in front of their fans.
Clubs will be able to admit up to 10,000 supporters or 25 per cent of their capacity, whichever number is lower.
There had been a push from clubs for the government to allow a small portion of that 10,000 to be away fans, but logistical meetings with local safety advisory groups have seen the brakes put on those plans for this season.
Midweek games currently scheduled for May 11/12 will be moved to the weekend of May 15, while the games originally meant to take place that weekend will now be played across May 18/19, taking them beyond the next stage of the government’s roadmap out of lockdown.” Standard 15/04.
Makes sense imo.

4th May 2021 at 3:01 pm #178690Nil, you are right….I only shop where free parking available, even though I have a disabled Blue badge I still have to pay on many in Town centres. The Car Parking, may well be called an “industry “now

11th May 2021 at 12:28 pm #178974Brian, last Friday I went into the town centre to my bank and there is hardly any nearby parking; all a one way system. People want convenient parking even for short stays but it seems there’s discouragement from promoting this with it becoming more pedestrianized.
The High Street is forming more cobwebs, sadly.

18th June 2021 at 6:28 pm #180561I read that some fans had paid Β£3/400 for a ticket to watch the match on TV in a pub, Plus the cost of travel and food and drink, my question is how can they afford it? No winners except the hospitality section who probably welcome it. I hope they do not take up any NHS time though
